  • I will be 60 in about 3 weeks, so nope you are not the oldest!
  • I finished my 8 week plan from my coach last Friday. No new plan yet, so you know what that means! MAX OUT ALL LIFTS AND GO COMPLETELY OFF THE RAILS! Woohoo! Lol
  • That book looks good. I have a coach though, so I just do the program he writes for me, no thinking required! lol
  • Week recap: Deadlift 133kg/292.6lbs lifetime best Front squat 58kg/something lbs lifetime best Bench 49kg just oh so short of lifetime best 50kg. I’ll get that next time. Pretty happy! Others lift more but it’s just you vs you anyway. So whatever.
  • Today I met up with a buddy who does strongman competition. She is super strong! She had me try car deadlifts, I managed the 45s and 35s before I dropped out. She did 3 45s! Whoa. Then she had me try the thing where they pick up the concrete balls and put them over a bar (or on a shelf). I got up to the 90lb ball before I…
  • No way dude, you are MY inspiration!
  • I wouldn't worry about the semantics too much. Just do them both. And do arm-something too, if not bench press then something. You'll do fine. (75kg squat - 45kg bench - 125kg deadlift | USAPL | RAW Masters 3a)

  • So, if you don't know, I'm a powerlifter. I like picking up heavy things. My profile pic is me doing a deadlift competition at the Caffeine and Kilos event last September. You can see I'm lifting "sumo style", which basically means the legs are spread out wide, and the hands are inside the legs. I've been pulling sumo…
  • I don't post a lot, but last weekend I had a powerlifting competition. I had a bit of trouble with the squat, but ended up with a 75kg squat, 45kb bench, and 125kg deadlift. Took a few days off to eat back up and rest. Today I am back on my nutrition program and looking forward to bench and squat tonight. I will be hitting…
  • Last night I got a 90kg or 198lbs squat for a single. Also a double at 88! Getting stronger! I hope to hit an even 100kg or 220lbs by my 60th birthday in September.
  • No way I can do that. I can’t count that high lol. Great job!
  • I only did one thing today and I’m dead. I told my coach halfway through I might have a heart attack, and I hoped he had a body removal service. He didn’t think that was funny! It was, I’m hilarious! Back squats 3 sets of five reps at 75 kg. That’s just pure evil, Coach. I got it done though. I’d also like to report my fav…
  • Got another PR tonight! Lest you think this happens Willy nilly, it absolutely does not. I’m at the end of a very long eight week strength building block. The last two weeks, we test our new strength with the five major lifts. Two last week, three this week. Last week I got a giant 15kg improvement on my squat, and a 6kg…
  • I ALWAYS make the deadlift face and it is unbelievably attractive. Lol!
  • Finally managed to deadlift 125 kg (about 275) sumo style. Of course I didn't video myself, but my coach did. Here's a photo from him, complete with his comment. lol Oh and it's a good example of "deadlift face".
  • Big 15kg PR tonight for back squat. I’m now at 85kg. About 185lbs. Super happy! I’m getting stronger! Also, dexa results last week showed a 9lb increase in muscle mass in the last six months. All those studies that say you’ll steadily lose muscle after age 55? Suck it. ;)
  • Deadlift variation, trap bar. 3x3 at 105kg/230lbs. Not terrible. I am finally over my crybaby fatigue/wanna quit phase, and getting stronger.
  • So not a straight line
  • Unplanned rest day today. I’m midway through a strength block. Every time, at this point I kind of crash, needing some time off, lots of sleep and lots of protein and carbs. This block is no exception! At least my coach is understanding. Aiming for 10 hrs sleep tonight, so nighty night everyone!
  • I know most folks do this at the start of the year! But I think it might be time to reevaluate my goals and adjust my course a little.
  • I kind of strained my right knee just a little last week, so I've been told no squats, and obviously no Olympic lifts, since those are all about the squat. Tonight's program is strict press 3x3 at 28kg, kettlebell armbar, turkish get-ups (boo), waiter carries, and triceps stuff which I did last night but I guess I will do…
  • I'm not sure what you mean? We all kind of do our own thing, it sounds like what you are doing is great for you, so keep doing it! As far as A1C, do you think a consult with a dietitian might help? I started working with one about 6 months ago, it's been extremely helpful for me.
  • First day of a new 8 week strength block. Deadlifts 5x3 at 100kg. Then front squats 5x2 at 38kg. Then accessories 3x6 of: dumbbell split stance RDLs, tall box step ups, walking lunges, heavy kettlebell swings, reverse hyper, single leg glute ham raise. I’m dead! But eight weeks from now, I will be stronger, and thinking,…
  • I hated the gym until I went ahead and joined a semi private group class with a trainer. Having that group, that I connected with made all the difference. If you didn't show up, they'd be texting to find out where the heck you were. If you are just going to go to a gym and walk on a treadmill, I'd save the $$ and walk…
  • Six months off due to rotator cuff strain, and prepping/competing in a powerlifting meet, then resting up. FINALLY now I'm back working on weightlifting (Olympic style). After testing out my shoulder mobility ever so slowly the past couple of weeks, coach has been breaking it down for me from beginning to a full lift.…
  • You should compete! It’s fun! I got first in my division...of course I was the only one! But I set state records in squat, bench, deadlift, and total. I got 57.5 kg squat, 42.5 bench, and 120kg deadlift. And I made some new strong friends, that was the best part.

  • Today we did another 2K for time. I'm a little bit better at rowing than last time, and this time I tried a little harder. I'm kind of wrecked still from my powerlifting meet this past Saturday, so I got tired fast. I know I can do better if rested. And if I have any kind of cardio endurance at all. lol My time was 10.05.0…

  • Meet done. Set a few state records,a whole lot less impressive than that sounds. Competition is thin in my age group. Eating all the things today, and about to take a nap. Back at it tomorrow for 5am rowing, 6pm lifting.
