Last Friday I had a dexa scan, they mapped out not only bone, but lean body mass, and, yes, fat mass. It was so cool to see that teensy little strong person inside there waiting to get out! That little chick in there is in the 95th percentile for lean mass. It's interesting how you get ideas in your head. I've always…

It can be hard to find a class. Heavy lifts mean a lot of liability for a personal trainer, so I don't blame them for avoiding it. Lots of powerlifters just garage-gym it, and the ones that are more competitive will have a coach (often remote) write a program for them. I'm lucky in that where I live, lifting is very very…

lolI t really isnt that bad. I'm in the basics goup so it is much easier than normal crossfit. I go to the weightlifting class once a week though. We did an hou session last night and did exactly 2 types of lifts lol There is a LOT of emphasis on form so each lift gets broken down into smaller components that are fist…

Respect to you! Crossfit scares me and I hate reps. I'm a true powerlifter! I don't know why I thought weightlifting would be fun to try. omg it is SO technically difficult, and I'm kind of a klutz so that doesn't help. I have a great coach, he's very encouraging, but it's hard not to be discouraged a lot. Tonight is…

Or, run to the donut shop. Then walk home? :)

Anyone else here a weightlifter or power lifter? I'm really trying to connect with fellow lifters. Thank you
-
Yeah maybe we will be semi okay this year? Or not. As long as we beat UW it's a winning year. Lol. WSU 79 and 83

Hi, I am looking for a buddy who is also female, over 50 and either a weightlifter or a powerlifter...? Anyone like me? thanks.
-
I've been lurking a bit in your group. I'm not sure I qualify as I will be 59 on Saturday. I just like to pick up heavy things and then put them down.

"Bandwagon" Seahawks fan since 1976. I'm going to try out for the offensive line though, I think I'd be an improvement, lol.

Wow, I'm 5'2" and almost 60 and my basal caloric needs are 1850/day. I generally eat about 2500 to maintain, about 2200 to cut. But I'm a lifter and I lift heavy. My most recent dexa scan results were "bones of a healthy young adult". I can't run even one block though. Well, not actually true -- I could probably run to the…

I went down another size. I also gained three pounds. I'm a rockstar at this diet thing. ha ha.

I've been working through basically the same thing the past few months. My coach (Olympic weightlifting) has me doing: Romanian deadlifts, Pendlay rows@50%, dumbbell curls (all variations), dumbell incline press, face pulls, tall box step ups, glute ham raise, deadlifts, bench press@50%, triceps anything I want. Nothing…

People at work who ask me how I'm in such good shape at 60, then when I tell them they need to start lifting heavy, they immediately say, "oh I can't do that", or "I already run five miles a day". Great. Don't ask then, just keep looking old, and I'll keep getting asked for ID when I buy beer.

MobilityWOD (subscription service but it's pretty inexpensive) has a LOT of shoulder mobility stuff. And ankle. And hip! It's worth the $10, imo. Also, search out sites about Olympic weightlifting (i.e. "weightlifting" to use the proper term). The Olys are all about throwing the weight up over your head and catching it…

Me too. Also pushing things around. And slamming things up above my head and holding them there for a sec.

The man himself, Greg Everett, has a great video on warm-ups. It's for weightlifting, but WL is pretty much a lot of squats. As he says, use what you need here and discard the rest. http://www.catalystathletics.com/video/74/Catalyst-Athletics-Standard-Warm-up/

Hi Jordyn, I'm a powerlifter turned weightlifter, add me, I love hearing from like minded people!
-
It definitely takes me longer to recover than it used to. I switched from powerlifting to weightlifting last fall after watching the Olympics and thinking, I'd like to do that! I'm not very smart! I have greatly improved my strength and flexibility though! I can squat on my heels now and watch an entire tv show like that.…

I still like the Cardio Coach mp3s. It doesn't matter what type of cardio you do, it works for all. HIIT.
-
It depends on what your goal is, I think. If you are a powerlifter, I'd do the major lifts on separate days with an emphasis on increasing my max. I moved from powerlifting to weightlifting last year. My weightlifting coach programs one move as the point of emphasis for the day. As an example, today is jerk day. 1/2 hour…

I drive 40 minutes to my coach/gym. (I also came to WL from PL) I probably pass 30-40 gyms along the way. If you want to do it, find a way. I know someone who drives to a coach once a week, the rest of the time she sends her coach videos to critique and does the program he writes for her in her garage gym. If you want to…

I'm a powerlifter turned weightlifter after I saw the Olympics. I'm like the strongest old person in the gym. Stronger than many of the teens too, even though I'm 40 years older. I'd never done the Olys before walking in there. I'm doing okay I guess. (I have a 6 pack, but it's in the cooler right now. lol)

Did you end up completing the program? Do you have any insight for me? I am considering it. I need coaching and accountability.
-
I know your post is ancient, but did you complete the program? Recommendations?
-
Yes, exactly, I watch the form they are using and pay attention to their diets, why not? I'll never look like Ed Coan but I can try to lift better than yesterday.
-
Ed Coan.

I drink some water with creatine in it. I like Emerge from Max Muscle but honestly just plain H2O works too. For me, the creatine is key.

Thanks so much everyone! I want those three plates SO BAD. I know I can go higher! Just a matter of time. The best part is, this is s group of ladies, the youngest of us is 52. We love love love it when the high school football boys walk past us...the never say anything, but their eyes are popping out of their teen heads!…
