Get ketone testing strips. They are fairly cheap in the pharmacy section of your grocery store. You simply pass the end of the little strip through your urine and compare the color to the picture on the bottle.

Try doing Atkins. It's the only thing proven to work for me. Try staying under 20 carbs a day for 2 weeks and see what happens. (Meat, poultry, fish, eggs, vegetables and certain dairy like cheese). I go over on my calories every single day, and have lost 17 pounds in less than a month. Good Luck :)

Try doing your leg lifts standing up and using a chair for balance. Sometimes my hips hurt when I do lifts laying down, too, but if you stand up you can still get a good workout. Also you can do leg lifts on your hands and knees. Keep your knee bent and slowly lift it up to the side and down again, then alternate legs.

Why types of food are you eating? Make sure you eat more protein and fat than sugar/carbohydrate. And lots of fiber can help, too.
