Avoid ANYTHING cotton!! Make sure they specifically mention "moisture wicking." I have SmartWool socks and LOVE them. While you're pickup up socks, pick up a stick of "Body Glide." It looks like a deodorant stick. Apply it to areas that rub and are prone to chaffing. Also apply to your feet in areas that rub and might…

Everything you need to know is on this page: http://www.dcrainmaker.com Ray reviews most of the popular models IN DEPTH. Of particular interest might be this page his 2011 Recommendations, where he recommends products based on your goals/activities: http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2011/11/my-2011-sports-technology.html

Podrunner Intervals! Available as a PodCast through iTunes, or on the web: http://www.djsteveboy.com/intervals.html Both are absolutely FREE and are great programs

The most important thing to take away from all the discussion is this: Your heart is a muscle, and needs to be trained just like any other muscle. Would you jump into lifting weights at 80-90% of your tolerated maximum and expect your arms and legs to function for long periods of time? NO! You increase the weight you lift…

The program works by draining your bank account so you can no longer afford to buy junk / fast food. Of course you also can't buy healthy food either. Just goes to show there's NO such thing as a "perfect" solution! ;)

^^^^ THIS!!! I have the Polar FT80 and LOVE it!

Why compromise your nutrition? Have water and kill 2 birds with one stone... 1) You're staying true to your nutrition plan, and 2) you're being responsible - you can be the D.D.!

My experience with the latest and greatest FitBit Ultra: Short Version: Worn for 2 days, and is going back for a return. Longer Version: Strike 1 - I wore it on the treadmill for a 3.11 mile walk / jog. FitBit reported that I had walked nearly 7 miles. And yes, I even used the stride length adjustment to try to correct.…

You'll read this as more negativity, but I promise you it's not. Just read all the way through before rolling your eyes and dismissing me. I ask this because I have been EXACTLY where you are. I can't count the number of times that I've started a diet. Or bought workout equipment. Or joined a gym. Or wanted to fit into a…

Perfect reason to buy a nice HRM (Heart Rate Monitor)! There are too many variables involved for you to be able to accurately track how many calories you burned during such an activity. Everyone in the class will experience different burns due to their own physical traits, level of exertion, fitness level, etc. An HRM…

Run a race. But that changes Feb 4, 2012 - I've entered the Krispy Kreme Challenge! http://www.krispykremechallenge RUN 2.5 miles EAT a dozen fresh doughnuts RUN 2.5 miles I'll be skipping the doughnuts ;)

And here I thought I complimented you on your desire to get into the gym quickly and get going :( Certainly was not judging your work ethic... my apologies if you were offended. I would have the same concern if I boarded a plane and heard the pilot checking off the safety list: "blah blah blah" ;) The doctor shopping…

Similar to shopping for a new doctor who will tell you what you're wanting to hear? Sometimes we don't like to hear what is best for us. I think she's eager to get going, and he just wants her to be cautious.

I agree with the trainer's concern about building some core strength before hitting harder / heaver weights. You said yourself that you've not been in a gym in 10 years, and remember nothing about MACHINES, and this time you want to use FREE WEIGHTS.... So you'll not have any idea about proper form for the exercises, what…

If HRM usage during weight training is indeed useless, then POLAR is making a killing off a worthless product. Check out one of their higher-end models, the FT80. http://www.polarusa.com/us-en/products/improve_fitness/fitness_crosstraining/FT80 One of the features of this watch is to monitor your heart rate during recovery…
-
I don't agree with this. An HRM is designed to do one thing, and one thing only: READ YOUR HEART RATE. It doesn't make a decision on what type of activity you're engaged in to make your heart beat faster or slower. It simply measures that rate and reports it.

Can you provide a link to scientific proof of this? Of is it theory / hearsay?

If you're like me, and have never even LOOKED at anything called a calorie, then you're going to find all kinds of things that will open your eyes, just like this did. Another thing that amazes me is that some of the things I always thought of as "low cal" or "healthy" aren't even CLOSE! Salads with dressing aren't always…

I'm 41, and the last year has been the best of my entire life. It's amazing how much you learn about life as you get older. Specifically what really IS and ISN'T important.

That's a VERY dangerous way of thinking... I make my living as a computer nerd, and I can guarantee you that your web browsing activities are capable of being monitored, tracked, and reported. We send weekly and monthly internet usage reports to management on the "surfing" done by their employees. Makes it easy to know who…

Before you buy anything, find yourself a GOOD store that caters to runners. Go in and talk with the people, allow them to watch you walk an/or run, and see what they say about your gait. They'll then make suggestions for a type of shoe based on the way YOU walk / run. There should be NO charge for any of this. Try on…

Hey there! Congrats on taking the first step - it's the biggest! 2 things: 1) If *I* can do it, ANYONE can... and that means YOU! 2) Watch this. It's what got me off my butt after 41 years.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SbXgQqbOoU

DON'T look good on a man! Besides "Moobs" or "Moobies" just doesn't have the same great sound to it. "Boobies" just rolls off your tongue :-P
