For our family, we go to Cosco every two weeks (me, my hubby, and 2 boys). We buy fresh strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, apples, bananas, nectarines, cucumbers, cauliflower, brocclli, etc. I fill the sink with water, add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, and throw the fresh stuff in and let it soak for 10 minutes. I…

Thanks for the recommendation!

Enjoy the rain, it'll feel good. Just wear a hat of some sort to keep the rain out of your eyes. And make sure you don't wear anything too loose to prevent chafing if you get wet! PS... have a great race!

OMG... this is so funny! Thank you for the laugh, I have to give a talk later today that I'm nervous about, and this will definitely help keep the nerves down. No one in our family farts... we step on "barking spiders" or "float air biscuits".

Good and bad carbs basically differ on the immediate impact it has on your blood glucose level after eating. Bad carbs are the simple sugars that immediately spike your blood glucose, such as white potatoes, white flour, white bread, candy, fruit juice, etc. Good carbs are those that the body has to work harder to get to…

Water water water! It's also a good time to vary up the training regimen, do hill repeats, intervals, fartleks, etc. We go after dinner, right before dusk, when it gets a little more windy here in Texas.

That's a great NSV! Just think, you'll probably need 12's the next time you go shopping.

Congratulations! This is so great that you could be such an inspiration to your family. Good luck on your journey!

I like the Fage 0% yogurt; I get the large container and add a teaspoon of any flavored fruit spread, and it's the same thing as buying the already flavored stuff but much cheaper! For dessert or mid-morning snack, I'll add fruit and it satisfies my cravings for ice cream!

Anyone on this thread, please feel free to add me as well!!! I've been struggling the past few months due to a death in the family, and I need to get my head back on straight and re-commit to ME! This is going to be a lifelong journey :)

Wow, great job. You look fantastic!

Great job! You should be so proud!

When I first started, I didn't know of couch to 5K. I used Hal Higdon, and Jeff Galloway (google them) has a basic conditioining program. The key is to stay consistent, and not skip days if possible. I believe in the "30 in 30". Start out with a 5 minute mandatory walk, for the middle 15 minutes you run until tired, walk…

I have started to weigh daily, because I noticed erratic numbers on the scale. The more I run, the more water I hold on to, so I can fluctuate anywhere from 4 - 7 pounds in one day! Hang in there, retire the scale for a month, and focus on measurements and NSVs.

what a great idea, and thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys. I plan to get the foam roller and I looked up stretches to do as well. Your input really helps, because I don't want to stop running, but at some point I have to give up being stubborn! IF this doesn't work, I plan on seeing my physician and getting a PT referral for more evaluation.

Madmickie, I am a nurse pracitioner and was pretty sure before discussing this with my running peers. I'm not looking for a cure... stretching and ibuprofen have made it better. I am asking if other runners have difficulty with it, and what works for them. But thanks for your input anyways.

I think the Wii is a great option. But how old is your daughter? I take my 2 year old with me, and I jog with a jogging stroller, and my 5 year old rides his bike with me. This is how my husband and I make special time for our little ones, just us, to make our "hearts happy"

1. I'd go into the handicap, usually I have my two little one with me 2. CD 3. House cleaner for sure!

I have the polar FT4, and I love it. Easy to use, easy to clean, has a stopwatch, etc. And its purple :)

Right now I'm enjoying a mix of black eyed peas, modest mouse, cake, Black Keys, The Killers, and Candlebox.

Jenn, I prescribe it a lot for our patients here. Most of them experience nausea, dry mouth, or anorexia, much more so than weight gain or hunger. The better you sleep, the easier it is to keep down the stress hormones, which can help with weight loss. I think you'll be just fine!

Good luck!

Your story reminds me of the other day driving down the road. I passed a car with a "0.0" sticker on it. I didn't know if they were trying to make fun of those of us that run, or making fun of herself for NOT being a runner. Either way, I got pissed, and Chris found it funny. Chin up... most people can't finish a 1/2…

I know this sounds a little silly... but we've started using our smaller salad plates instead of our dinner plates, which has really helped with the portion control. We also make sure to have at least a cup or two of vegetables with dinner, and a healthy protein.

Thank you everyone for your posts. I think I'm going to give it a try... I need to work on strength also, so this should be fun!

Hi. I would google to see if you have a "running" store in your area. That's what I did, and they watched me walk bare-footed, then they had me run in 3 or 4 shoes before I picked out the pair I liked best. I purchased the Asics Gel for about $89.99, and I put about 20 - 30 miles on them a week. My knees and feet have less…
