  • Not such a dumb question. I had wondered myself, but I think I've come up with the term "No Small Victory" whether thats right or wrong, I'm not exactly sure.
  • Welcome to one of the biggest helps I've ever found. The ease of being able to track your foods here is second to none and the people are great too (most of them) :) I wish you the best in your journey.
  • When I was in the Marine Corps back in 89-93, I was constantly "over weight" at 180 pounds, lean and mean. I was officially on the fat body program which meant an extra 3 mile run every day during our lunch break, after 3-5 miles that morning with everyone else. The Marine Corps at that time used the standard BMI scale.…
  • I've also experienced significan periods of plateau. Weeks in fact. I got the advice of upping my caloric intake so I changed from my WFP recommended 1695 to 2200. Miraculously, it worked like a champ. I immediately dropped 2.2 pounds. I think the thing to remember is don't do the same thing more than three weeks at a…
  • I think you were on to something. I started re-reading an old Atkins book that talked about how some things don't work with low carbing. LC and low fat, doesn't work. LC and low calories doesn't work either. I've been trying to LC and stay under my MFP goal of 1690 calories a day. It was not working. I raised my calorie…
  • I don't believe you'll ever hear anyone say, "I wish I hadn't gone to the gym today", short of an injury. The absolute hardest part about working out for me and I'm guessing you too, is just getting there. Lace up, get there, make it happen. You can do it!
  • I absolutely agree with the what AthenaSoul said about doing LC and low fat is counter productive. If you read the meal plans provided in any of the Atkins books, they specifically talk about the reason that you want a high fat diet when low carbing.
  • That's a truly inspiring story. I'm very happy for you. Weight loss is such a personal thing. I'm sure this has given you some fantastic motivation for the rest of your journey. Congratulations.
  • I'm very happy for you. It just reiterates the importance of taping with a measuring tape. Nothing tells the story more than pulling tape. The scale can be so incredibly frustrating because of water weight causing gains and flexuations on the scale. Enjoy the new, old wardrobe.
  • I guess I've never thought about it. I attribute most of my dental challenges with coffee and its inevitable staining. Haven't heard your dentists theory.
  • That was a great read! Thanks.
  • Pick a day of the week that is your official weigh in. Mine is Monday. I do weigh basically every morning, however over the course of the week I can see up to a six pound weight swing from water weight. I usually tend to have a net loss of a pound a week or so.. sometimes two.
  • Mines a little different since I tend to low carb. Breakfast - Must have - 4 sausage links / 3 fried eggs (love it) Lunch - typically a protein shake or bar - (still satisfied from breakfast) Dinner - protein - usually chicken / sauted in wok - but I love pork / beef too. Now I'm hungry.
  • I cook at home and I know what I plan on cooking for dinner every night. So when lunch time comes around and I think about what I want to make for dinner, I look at MFP and realize that hmm, I need to burn 500 or so calories at the gym today to cover my dinner calories. I absolutely love using my HRM. I highly recommend it…
  • I tried and followed the directions. It just gave me a page with all the script text. I use Mozilla Firefox. I'm not sure if maybe you'll get different results with internet explorer.
  • I can't really comment on the TOM portion of this, but I wanted to say that I agree completely with Angelapolite. Don't rely on the scale to tell the whole picture, especially if you exercise. You'll find more truth in the story that a tape measure will tell. Keep measuring.
  • On December 8, 2011 I started Atkins again for the 3rd time, topping out at 296 pounds. For the first several weeks, all I did was induction level carbs and I lost 18 pounds in that three weeks. Then around the first of January 2012 (new years resolution) I went back to the gym. I've been working out pretty hard, for me,…
  • I've never been affected by the "Atkin's Breath" but I've definitely had acetone smelling urine. It's strong smelling, even for me at times, when I'm really heavy in ketosis.
  • Marine Corps 89 - 93
  • The best way to explain it so it's not confusing is to show you some simple math... I'll use my numbers. If I slept for 24 hours and didn't get out of bed, I'd naturally burn 2400 calories, just being alive in hibernation mode. Through MFP, I have a deficit of 700 calories a day, because my goal is 1700 (2400-1700=700).…
  • I am set at 1700 cal a day which leaves a significant daily deficit already, (700 calories). If I work out, I try really hard to eat back as many of those calories as possible to not further my caloric deficit. I started at 296, currently 272. I do induction style eating on a daily basis trying hard to stay true to between…
  • They are absolutely fantastic, however for me, they do come at a cost. I use ketone sticks on a daily basis. When I eat more than 2 pieces of RS chocholate, 3 or 4... I take a hit in my ketones the next morning. I beleive it's the artificial sugar. I experience the same thing with crystal lite which uses the same…
  • That is quite the transformation. Super job, well done.
  • The sickness or brain fog is actually something that the Atkins program talks about, commonly referred to as the Atkins flu. Your body will feel just a little bit different. You'll know somethings happening and not quit the same. Ketosis is a challenge for many, myself included. I use ketone test strips on a daily basis to…
  • I also eat low carb, higher protein / fat. It works well for me. Basically I decide what I'm going to eat based on what calories, carbs I have left for the day. I know what my target is and I eat to the target.
  • This is fantastic! You look fabulous...
  • I believe it was Patton who said, "Surrounded hell... I've finally got them where I want them." I am so pulling for you. You will find amazing support on this site. Everyone is so eager to have you succeed. Use this tool, very valuable tool to help you. Thank you so much for your story. I'm very encouraged by one of my MFP…
  • There are a lot of low carbers out there that lose weight strictly by diet only. Atkins induction will definitely make you lose weight. That will put your carb intake near 20gr a day for a couple weeks. Muscle mass, lean muscle, it's all relative. If you are a sloth that never gets off the couch, then working out and doing…
