To say you should eat your excercise calories is a good rule but is an over-simplification. Banks wrote a good post on this and from that post wrote if you consistently eat around 1000 calories less than your maintenance then you risk going into survival mode which will slow your metabolism. That 1000 is a bit of an…

I peel them and put them in a freezer bag. My freezer bag right now has about 6 bananas in it. One frozen banana, 1 table spoon almond butter (or peanut butter), 3/4 scoop Designer whey protein chocolate powder, 1 cup nonfat milk, blender. Try it you'll like it. A fairly high calorie snake, but does fuel your muscles on a…

Same thing happened to me. I believe it has to do with carrying around less weight burns less calories. But if you're more active it does make sense that you would eat more calories. Enter your excercise each day and that will increase your daily calorie allotment. And imo, 1200 seems too low. I just couldn't tolerate that…

Atodaro, If you go into the screen where you enter your weight and select the edit previous entries button you can enter your initial date and weight. I think you should show all 19 lbs. on your ticker. Congrats on your success so far.

Awesome, 80 lbs is great and you truly proved to yourself already that you can do the additional 100 lbs. Your accomplishment is inspirational. Congrats Frank

So, I'm copying this post from Food and Nutrition to where it should be, the Recipe section From my kitchen last night I cooked for my wife, and super easy to make. This is two large servings, that completely fills two large dinner plates: In a hot wok add 1 tblsp garlic infused olive oil - 120 calories add 3 cloves of…

Before I saw your post, I just posted this, very filling and low calorie http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/16104-oops-i-posted-this-at-food-and-nutrition-but-it-belongs-her

Deleted, this post should be in the Recipe section. I moved, here's the link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/16104-oops-i-posted-this-at-food-and-nutrition-but-it-belongs-her

I love that resturant. But the calories count on the ribs is shocking. I've never ordered them. My wife and I always get the chicken letucce wraps, 315 calories each but blow it on something like the kung pao chicken, we eat about half of it and take the rest home, about another 300 calories each, about 615 calories total.…

The first time I lifted seriously was as a freshman in high school. I can still remember it because I could barely move my arms and shuffled more than walked for the next couple of days. My muscles were so sore. But after that initial shock my body grew use to it and I got a 'good' soreness that was short-lived instead of…

Maverick, You actually might not be disagreeing with everything on this thread. Perhaps we can narrow it down a bit. Based on the research and explanation provided in this thread... 1) Your maintenance calorie level for any given day increases by the amount of calories you spent excercising. 2) What you don't want to do is…

I always thought the California Hass Avacados tasted better. Like most things that taste better to me, they appear to have more calories. But then again what's 40 extra calories between friends.

You've gotten some great advice on this thread. I also believe that diets that can't be maintained forever, like nutrisytem, lead to yo-yo dieting. The dirty secret of the weight loss industry is regarding their success rates or lack of success rates actually(I worked for a weight loss company for many years). They define…

Trader Joe's first started in Southern California (I'm in San Diego). They have spread to other parts of the country. They have a store locator on their web site. Everyone I talk to says they "love" Trader Joe's.

At the end of this article it explains how you can set your goal unrealistically low if you don't consider your body fat % at your goal weight. It also asserts setting a goal based on measurements or body fat % is better than setting a goal based on weight. http://www.healthchecksystems.com/bodyfat.htm Another table of…

Salmon marinated in soy and maple syrup, barbeque. Salad: Baby spinach, cherry tomatoes, red onion, shredded carrots, gorgonzola; with Olive oil and Balsamic Vinegar Ciabatta loaf wrap in foil and warm on upper grill of barbaque, dip in olive oil and balsamic. Dessert: 2 Trader Joe's Chocolate Bon Bons and fresh…

I get it at Trader Joe's (I actually do all my food shopping at Trader Joe's)

I like Designer Whey 100, Chocolate. One scoop = 100 Calories. More calories for me, I mix it with skim milk which adds another 90 calories. And if I need more calories for my day I blend it with a frozen banana, almond butter, and skim milk, now that tastes good

Hey Kell, Since you don't belong to a gym, an inexpensive way to work your core would be to get a stability or balance ball (those large blow up balls you see people laying on when the work out). You then can do a lot of your excercises using the balance ball. For instance if you use your free weights to do dumble chest…

Yeah that's probably right though it does ask for frame size so maybe... But I think most likely it's just for the ladies.

I think that study is silly. The 3 mile per hour walker will burn more calories in a half hour than a 2 mile walker will. What's more important I think is how many calories you burn in 1/2 hour doing a similar excercise. How much you burn per mile is not that relevant to me as I am more concerned with the time it takes not…

I ocassionally get sciatica which was diagnosed by a MD. This is a relatively common form of lower back pain and sometimes leg pain. I don't like drugs and I don't like surgery. What worked for me is a DVD: Healing Yoga by Rodney Lee It has an 8 minute routine of gentle streaching and breathing that "opens up the spine".…

V, It came up with 152.5 lbs. The calculator didn't ask if I was male or female. Don't you think that would be an important question?

Hi J, Thanks for your reply. To answer your question, I ski, golf (though my extra fat weight isn't much of a factor for golf), and play two man beach volleyball. Two man beach volleyball is the sport that extra fat weight has the biggest impact on. You need to move quickly in the sand and be able to jump well. At only…

If you're drinking your calories you may consider not drinking them. Eat an orange instead of drinking orange juice, water instead of milk. I usually have a large bowl of cereal, milk and a banana. It comes to about 450 calories. Or I have 2 pieces of turkey bacon a fried egg and one slice of toast (ezekiel sprouted grain)…

Wow thanks for the all the information. I'm really surprised at that table. I'm 5'11" (and small boned per Dr. Phils test) and the healthy BMI range for a male at 5'11" is 132 lbs. to 179 lbs.. The table from Dr. Phil has the healthy range for a 5'11" male is from 173 lb. to 211 lb. I know when I was at 178 lb. I really…

The general idea is to combine cardio with strength training. Traditionally when strength training you rest between sets of weight lifting to give your muscles a chance to recover. So part of a weight training program would be to do three sets of 10-12 at the bench press with a 30 second to 1 minute rest between each set.…

I wouldn't have thought that was possible. And it looks like you gained muscle too. Awesome job.

I've seen tables that show a healthy weight range that increases with age. But, I've also read that (on average) as we age we lose muscle mass. These two concepts seem to contradict each other.
