  • YEP! I've heard numerous similar studies, but it's nice to hear it's finally finding some popularity.
  • Is it natural sugar that you're going over with? Natural sugar from fruits is ok, in moderation, of course. Watch those "lowfat" and "nonfat" products...they are loaded with sugar. I gave up white flour and sugar for lent and have noticed a huge difference in my weight loss and allergies, oddly enough. Those things,…
  • Amen to that! I'll take a natural source of food any day over something chemically processed. Even if the numbers look better.
  • If you can, go to a running specialty store. It's really worth the price, especially your first time getting shoes. They will normally do a gait analysis (sometimes taped so you can see it too), and assess how your feet hit the ground, which will help you find the right shoe (for pronating, supinating, etc.). After…
  • Lots of good wishes to you! If you are doing this more as a way of life and a way to get and stay healthy and you really do want it, in the long run, you will succeed. Stick with the baby steps. It can get really intimidating to look at the big picture all the time. I lost 13 lbs over my last "boot camp" that I did with my…
  • BREAD. And cheese. Those are my real weaknesses. I love really good bread from a nice bakery, like a ciabatta. Too many good bakeries here in Portland too. :ohwell:
  • I try to only do it once a week, but I usually given in to temptation and do it every other day at my trainer's studio. This is why I don't have a scale at home. I think once a week is sufficient. Then you don't see the daily highs and lows and get discouraged.
  • What balance of carbs, fat, and protein are you using? I go by the 40-30-30 method and I'm ALWAYS under. It's hard for me to eat that much protein and few carbs. I've been told by my trainer to try to stay in those proportions in order to lose weight when exercising. I say, keep going over!
  • Amen to that. I've been trying to get that across to people for ages. Not to mention there are only a handful of "healthy" options at Subway...they have plenty of fatty options too!
  • I would really consult a doctor before going on any kind of detox diet, if only for support. I did an 11 day cleanse with Isagenix with great results--both weight loss and just feeling better. I worked with my naturopath, though. I had a lot more success than the other people who did it because I had a knowledgeable…
  • I've lost 15 lbs since i started here due to my boot camp and tracking my calories. It really does make a difference to be accountable for what you've eaten. Remember to be honest with yourself...you're only cheating yourself if you lie. Good luck! It's worth it!
  • vodka and soda water with lemon...only if you can handle the taste of vodka. Red wine is not too bad either. And good antioxidants!
  • Don't judge your actions by saying things like "I cheated" or "I've been bad" or even "I've been good." You are in this for the long haul...like someone said on another post, this is a lifestyle change and you need endurance, so stop judging yourself for your actions. What happens is a result the choices you make. If you…
  • Wow. that is really wonderful. Congratulations!
  • This morning I did my boot camp workout with my trainer and team. Burned 801 calories and stayed in my training zone (heart rate) for almost the full time!! I'm really proud of that last part. This week I'm down another 4 lbs. I am now the lightest I've been since high school (I was chubby in high school:tongue: ). Down a…
  • Yeah, but I am trying to get rid of the sugar substitutes too, which Dannon Light & Fit is loaded with. Most of those low sugar or no sugar added foods are loaded with chemicals and those are NOT good for you. I agree with the plain yogurt comment. I had to get used to the taste, but now I love it! Sometimes adding fresh…
  • Just found out that I'm going to be in a wedding (probably next year, but it'll come soon), so I need to kick it up! I did 63 minutes in boot camp today with my trainer. I do about 60-70 minutes of boot camp 3-4 times per week and cardio 45-60 min. twice a week, so my calories burned are good...just need to stay away from…
  • good old celery with peanut butter (something like Adams or the like that doesn't use hydrogenated oils). In the morning I like a hardboiled egg.

  • I just like to send a Thanksgiving warning out... If you've been eating healthy for some time (even a few weeks) and then think it's going to be ok to eat like you used to and feel fine...think again. The kitchen at work looks like a bakery right now because of all the "treats" people brought in...I thought, "oh, I can…
  • Happy Thanksgiving! (see my thanksgiving warning...)
  • Last year I was doing a fitness challenge, also, and exercised the day of. It really helped me keep my focus, and cancel out a few of those calories. I still ate more than I normally would, but I limited myself to one plate and split a piece of pie with my mom. This year I'm doing a workout with my trainer and team to help…
  • I have to go out and do something active or at least something where I'm not around food. I usually clean when I'm angry. It's a little weird, but at least I don't eat and I feel good that my house (or car, or desk...) is clean when I'm done. Usually helps me put things in perspective. Eating just makes me feel even more…
  • What's your protein intake like? My trainer told me that he had a client similar to your situation...as soon as he got his protein to be 30% of his diet (and kept up with the working out), he dropped the pounds quickly. I'm finding the same thing. I weigh 188 (definitely have more muscle than a lot of women, so I weigh…
  • I only weigh myself once a week. It helps me be less obsessive and concentrate on my goals, not just the weight loss. AND, it's more exciting to see my total at the end of the week, rather than a few ounces here and there. You're right about it becoming an obsession though!
  • My sister had the same problem with eggs. Sometimes your body is trying to tell you something. Try to get your proteins and calcium from somewhere else for now, but I would probably consult a physician.
  • Portland, Oregon
  • I found a great quote from a Weight Watchers article on how to respond to those comments, especially during the holidays when the food and drinks are flowing...if you are told, "why do you need to lose weight? you already look good" then you can respond "I didn't get this way by overeating and I'd like to stay…
  • what's everyone's progress so far? I'm down 5.4 lbs already!
  • Thyme-roasted sweet potatoes 4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 1/2-inch-thick rounds 3 tablespoons olive oil 4 large garlic cloves, minced 1/3 cup fresh thyme leaves, plus 6 thyme sprigs for garnish 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes Preheat oven to 450°F. In large mixing bowl, combine all…
  • I've DEFINITELY gone through the same thing most of my life. Losing weight can be very emotional, just as gaining it was. I've always been the fat friend, so losing my title, no matter how awful it was, made me feel like I was losing a part of myself. Remember: you are not your fat. You are the same person inside. You are…
