I say people are going to have their judgments, whether they voice them or not. So, let them have them. It sucks and it's too bad that we feel it's ok to put each other down. Who knows where it comes from? YOUR opinion of YOURSELF is the only one that matters. And I think that goes for all of us who are trying to lose…

This is why I love Jillian. She is such an awesome motivator. Thanks for posting this!

Yep! I can proudly say I did. Thanks for the reminder to applaud myself for these little victories. I went in with the intention of running my two miles and I ended up running 2.5 and walking another .5, then doing 12 min. on the stairstepper and some lunges. Go us! :drinker:

It CAN be expensive...if you're buying into those packaged goods with all kinds of healthy claims. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store...produce, meats, etc. Go to farmers markets (if they are available in your area at this time). Eat more beans (uncooked), brown rice, make your own bread...these things add up.…

You can get whole beans instead of refried. The default at most Mexican restaurants is refried, but ask for them whole instead--you'll save yourself a lot of calories. They are just as good, too! Avoid anything with a bunch of cheese. I think the fajita route is good, but frequently it's cooked in oil, so don't overdo it.

Rest rest and more rest. It sucks, but you'll get better a lot faster if you don't run. Also, try a foam roller to get some of the kinks out.

So am I! I'm just not as hungry in the morning...but I see what they are saying. It's probably because I do eat so much so late. Boy, that's a vicious cycle!

My motivation is to stop this vicious cycle I go through every year of losing weight to a level where I feel proud of myself, then losing control and gaining back 10-20 lbs. It doesn't seem like much, but I'm ready to get off this rollercoaster. I want to make healthy decisions for my life. So, I guess my motivation is me!…

This was posted by another member a while ago and I think it's really important for many of us to stop and read it. Very insightful. I think this could be helpful to anyone who deals with some sort of addiction. Good luck!…

The calories burnt does depend on your weight, so it will vary quite a bit across the board. I find that some of them are a little high and some are a little low. I have a heart rate monitor, so I change mine to more accurately reflect my calories burnt. However, if you can't do that, I would just eat slightly less than…

Stick to the perimeter of the grocery store. Most of the stuff you shouldn't be eating is stuck in the middle. Produce, dairy, and meat is usually on the outside. Think whole foods. Have fun!

I love love LOVE the Test Kitchen! I got myself the Best Light Recipes cookbook and I swear by it. My boyfriend can hardly tell the difference between the lowfat and regular mac and cheese, and he loves him some mac and cheese! Thanks for the suggestion. I might have to pick that up.

My great grandmother's way....tomato, onion, celery and jalapenos. Just a little mayonnaise and I usually add some mustard...preferably spicy!

I think a 12 min mile (5 mph) is a good goal for a beginning runner. With a shorter race like a 5k, your adrenaline may push you a little faster than that. I think I did about a 12 min mile for my first 5k and it was challenging, but not impossible. Good luck and have fun!!

I know the feeling. I hate the treadmill...but now that it's cold and dark when I get up and can't run outside by myself (and don't really want to)...it's my only choice. I find that challenging myself a little more, or in a different way, helps break it up. Thursdays I do the hill program while running. It's partially…

Unsalted. From my experience using the America's Test Kitchen cookbooks, they say to always assume, unless otherwise indicated, to use unsalted butter when a recipe calls for butter.

Ooh...that tuna sounds yummy! Cottage cheese, just plain or with a few tortilla chips Brown rice cake with organic peanut butter Low-fat plain yogurt with a little bit of chocolate syrup Can't wait to hear other people's suggestions!

You might try a more ancient form of wheat...spelt. I have a wheat sensitivity as well and I find that it doesn't affect me as harshly. You may have to try a few brands of the breads before finding one you like. I enjoy Naturebake, but it's based out of Portland, OR, so unless you're in the area, I don't think it's…

Hey gnu... I was thinking of having my own "turkey trot" on Thanksgiving morning and was hoping you could join me! Thursday is one of my running days (I'm back to my training for the Shamrock Run 09!), so I need to get a couple miles in. Maybe we can do Alki. If nothing else, it'll start up the metabolism.

they probably also have high fructose corn syrup in them...like so many other crackers.

Some people prefer to do arms one day, then legs another. I do my weight training on MWF, so I do both lower and upper body. Basically, you want to work all your muscle groups. I've heard to start with the large muscle groups, then work down to the smaller one (i.e. do quads before calves). That works, just make sure…

Me too!!!!

YES! Soda has tons of chemicals that are no good for your body. Congrats! I like to take some sparkling water and add a little fruit juice (grape is my favorite) for a different taste once in a while. I think it tastes better than soda and it's better for you. It's quite a nice low-cal treat as well!

I don't know if your HRM has this function, but mine does...you can set the intensity level of what you're doing, which will change the calories burnt. Mine is set for 10 or something like that because most of my exercise is running, cardio, or strength training intervals. If you have it set for 10 intensity level and all…

I've used some taco seasoning for it (there's an organic packet of seasoning I've picked up before specifically for fish tacos) and thoroughly cover it, spray some oil on a nonstick pan and cook it until it's just done, breaking it up for use in tacos. It's really good! Even my boyfriend who hates fish likes it. Pair with…

Mr. Sensitivity speaks again! Well, he's awkward, but he tries. (for all those who don't know, we're related!)
