To answer the question of how much I was eating to maintain 192: 1932 calories based on my TDEE. It's too soon for me to tell you how well I'm complying, but I would argue, and it's been my experience so far, that severely restricting calories on one day is easier than thinking about calorie intake for every meal and…

I've logged in MFP, but nothing as structured as this. I worked with a pt for about three months last year and he had me restrict/ease up on restriction on and off.

Well, half--45, as long as I stick with it.

You don't think it's possible to diet successfully without weighing food? I'd like to explore ways to improve and troubleshoot things I may be overlooking, but does that mean jumping to the most.intensive way to control calories in that I can think of, outside of surgery maybe? Fasting intermittently seems much more doable…

Now how is it that I am supposed to lose weight if not through special attention, hand-holding, customized plans suited to MY unique biological needs, and lots and lots of gushing encouragement??? o:) o:) o:)

Actually many posters have offered great fact-based insight into my original question, which was why, when I'm in a calorie deficit, do I see such varying results. Walking Along has experienced the plan I'm on work for her and yes, I'm very interested in what she has to say that could help me make it work for me.

For my 500 calorie days I'm consuming water, black coffee or hot tea until around noon. I have a 100 or 150 calorie protein shake or smoothie for lunch. When I get home from work (6pm) I have a spinach salad with tuna, 2 tbs of hummus and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar (350-400 calories depending on the amount of tuna and…

I'll start using this for sure Thanks!

Spot on!

This doesn't represent how i have approached weight loss at all. I'm not sure how you came up with that pattern based on my posts?

If you go back and read my OP, you'll see what I actually asked is why, when I am consistent in my diet and maintaining a calorie deficit, is there so much fluctuation in the results. Some of the helpful responses were: watch your sodium intake, be aware of menstrual cycles, be patient and trust the process over a longer…

What white knuckling with strange approaches exactly am I doing?

I was intrigued by this diet after reading the studies. I think it's interesting that she didn't set out to discover a marketable diet plan, she just noticed a particular behavior and then replicated it in human trials. I would have to eat a little over 3300 cal on my off day to eat back my deficit. I COULD eat that much,…

Well, I'm just a mess, aren't I?

Exactly why it appeals to me!

This is exactly what I'm following.

This is precisely the mindset I need to get into. Thanks for sharing it so succinctly. I may print this off and hang it in my office to re-read!

To several posters who asked--yes, I'm logging, I'm not using a food scale. Freely isn't the best choice of words there...I'm logging on the non-fast days too. Just not with a calorie goal. I've been ending up around 1500-1600 on "free" days. I know I need to stick with it longer. If you re-read my op, you'll see that I…

Thanks so much for all the info. Lots of people here think like I do! My current weight is 192. Goal: 172 (to begin with, I'd love to lose this by March, for a trip I'm going on) I'm eating 500 cal on "fast" days and freely on off days. So far, fasting is working well for me. I recently started a new job and found myself…

Agreed--we can only control our own reactions. But, let's not give this guy a pass. I do have expectations for the behavior of people around me--having those expectations is a pillar of healthy self respect. It's okay to be outraged at crappy behavior. Not okay to hit--but we should acknowledge that it wasn't unprovoked. I…

This is a good point. Just to add: you may want to re-evaluate your choice of hang outs. There are places in my (small) town that are primarily for hooking up, and places that are primarily for socializing. I think you'll find if you limit yourself to the letter that it's so much nicer to surround yourself with polite,…

I haven't read anyone say she did the right thing. But why is all the outrage reserved for the REACTION to the poor behavior of the guy? I see it over and over again. Women are expected to fold their hands in their lap and say please stop endlessly when men come on strongly, over the top and after having already been asked…

OP--that guy was a jacka##. Let me repeat: that guy was a jacka## and he is the person in the scenario you described who caused the interaction to go south. You and your friends do not have to politely accept unwanted attention--especially if its not been reciprocated and the dude continues to not take a hint. He lacks…
