I'm 5ft3-ish and currently hovering at 125-127 lbs. I feel / look best at 120-123 lbs but have a really hard time getting there in winter!

The recent OTD COTH thread (and my scale!) prompted me to get back on the MFP wagon! Especially this tine of the year, I need to be careful and l need to lose about 10lbs anyway. So, here we go again. It really helps me to lon on my food and exercise. As someone said, it keeps me honest! Good to read that a lot of you have…

I use my pressure cooker all the time, especially in fall-winter. Mine is a SEB and came with a nice little recipe booklet. full of ideas It's great for preparing a whole meal in 20-30 mn! We use it mainly for veggies: -artichokes (18 mn cooking time, then serve with a vianigrette - shallots, Dijon mustard, balsamic…

Nice to see so many people my size! lol I'm 5'3-ish, currently 130 lbs and my goal is 120 lbs. I'm also 48 years old (gasp) and I find it much harder to stay in the 120 range. I do exercise regularly (walking, skiing, riding, zumba-ing) but these days it seems that I am stuck at 130 lbs. Before I had kids, my normal…

LOL! I'd never heard that one before! For me, it's reducing bread and cookies intake. Or, burning more calories by exercising more.

I think it's much easier / better in a class. Try a bunch of different classes, because fun and quality really depends on the instructor. Some classes are easy, some are challenging, some are boring...I'm lucky that I found 3 zumba instructors near me that I really like. Great workout!

Hi there, I am just returning to the forum today (thanks to EasyKeeper8!) after not logging in for weeks. I don't have arthritis (yet) but have you tried those human supplements that are similar to what we give horses, with Glucosamine, MSM, Chondroitin sulfate, HA etc? They make such a big difference in horses. I onky…

EasyKeeper tell us more about those versatility competitions! Sounds like fun. I'm not riding nearly as much as I would like. Just a little walk-trot in the snowed-in ring. When I asked for canter my mare was so excited she squealed, lol! But we could only canter for a short ways, it was too icy / slippery for my comfort…

Same here. I get up at 6 and have a a couple (small) cups of coffee, and I'm good 'til lunch time. Sometimes I bring a yogurt or a fruit to work and eat that around 10 am if I'm hungry. The only time I can eat some kind of breakfast is when I'm on vacation and fairly active during the day, but then by noon I am STARVING…

Never heard of "Pho" either! My typical lunch: 1/2 a grapefruit, cut, that I eat with a spoon (makes it harder, so takes longer to eat) - 41 cal 1 cup soup (usually, Pacific ) - about 160 cal depending on type of soup 1 Activia light yogurt - 60 cal 1 medium size apple - 72 cal 6 pieces of Green & Black 70% dark chocolate…

You guys sound like you're really motivated! Good for you! Horse-wise, my only goal is to try to ride more. I only have an outdoor ring with so-so footing, so I'm trying to get a stall for my mare at an indoor for the winter months, and if I manage that I can take regular lessons again. I don't show anymore (I used to…

I second the TC Senior. MyOttb mare is 14, so not "semior" per se, but she was a hard keeper and VERY picky. After trying many different brands / types of feed and weight suppl, I finally found a combination that she loves: TC Senior + crimped oats. She gets 2 qts in the AM and 3 qts PM and cleans up her bowl ;) She also…

My favorite: Cut up sweet potatoes and butternut squash in smallish pieces. In a bowl, combine olive oil, salt ( I use Herbamare sea salt with organic herbs and veggies) & pepper, garlic powder, cumin, ginger, coriander, and thyme+sage or herbes de Provence. Add the sweet potato and squash pieces and coat them with the…

Here's some info on them http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/products/p/shiratakinoodle.htm I'd never even heard the name before seeing it in posts here a few days ago!

I have the same kind of allergy but only to...kiwi fruit (and sometimes, mangoes - weird). I'm sorry you can't eat all those things, they're really salad staples! Here are a few salads I make, always seasoned with balsamic vinegar, garlic, olive oil, with or without Dijon mustard, and fresh cut minced Provence herbs…

Tonight? Artichokes, steamed, with balsamic vinaigrette Pork loin cooked with red peppers, mushrooms and saffron Basmati rice or spaghetti (we'll see what the majority wants). Dinner HAS to be easy and yummy if I'm going to cook it ;)

Never underestimate the power of walking! It's GREAT exercise, it costs NOTHING, and you can do it anywhere! Last Christmas, I spent time with my aging parents and ate and ate lots of good food, did no "exercise" whatsoever for 3 weeks, but I was walking their dog every day for about 40 mn, on hilly terrain. And I lost…

I don't really have one for people...But for the horses, I have a little container with: -Betadine - Wound cleanser that I can squirt - Triple antibiotic + pain killer ointment - Furazone - Vetrap - Sore No More gel - gauze and cotton pads - Duct tape and of course all kinds of leg wrapping materials. Most of that kit can…

I do barn chores because I board my horse at a friend's backyard place, and when she works nights I help out at the barn while she sleeps the day away! My favorite would be turning the horses out in the morning because both my mare and hers are Ottbs and they LOVE a good run, roll, and buck in the chilly morning! The poor…

My only gripe about my age (47) is that my body is getting worn! So I physically can't exercise as much as I would like to (and definitely have the drive and energy for)! Last year I was plagued by plantar fasciiatis, so no walking/running/dancing for me, fortunately riding (horse and bike) was ok. I have a chronically bad…

According to widespread "recommendations" ( 8 glasses a day?!!) I don't drink nearly enough water either, not because I don't like it (that's all I drink) but I am never that thirsty. But I drink unsweetened coffee and tea as well, doesn't that count as hydrating liquid? ;)

Riding dressage (sitting at all gaits) on contact will definitely work your core! I find planks hard because if I don't watch myself constantly, my lower back pays the price. I think you're right to not do pilates/yoga on your own if you know nothing about it. You can really hurt yourself and not know it before it's too…

I do! Just last night we had breaded sole fillets with sauté red potatoes. YUM. Also, pollock (or cod) in papillottes, with goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, sage and thyme, garlic and shallots. And of course salmon, baked or barbecued, monkfish with capers...grilled halibut...grilled trout with almonds... Now I want fish for…

I'm back! Thank you Onawho for checking on me! I've been busy and haven't taken the time to log in here, but I have been tracking my food intake and trying to exercise at least 3x a week. Last week we were totally SPOILED with weather in the 80's (In MAINE! in MARCH!!) and I spent lots more time outside or "about", than in…

I've been slacking these past few days and not signing in as much (life got in the way) but I'm still on track, still watching what I'm eating and still trying to exercise most days. It helps that we can take the horses to the indoor on a regular basis, so I can actually work a sweat trotting, cantering and jumping (and my…

Thanks for re-posting that here. I had been following that thread, I found it very interesting. It makes total sense. I do things in reverse somewhat:: if I know what I want to eat, or will eat on a particular day, I get motivated to exercise so I can stay within my calories allotment. For instance, last night I knew I…

Right now I am just counting calories. MFP put me at 1200 calories a day and it's hard to stay under, even with exercise! I am not willing to "drop" anything from my menu "just because". I am all for moderation and portion control. My weaknesses are fresh bread (aaaahhh!), Brussels cookies (that's it, I'm NOT buying those…

Sorry about your set back. Hang in there! Things do get better eventually.

KCoyote I can't open that link. Thanks for the idea tho, I'll look into it.. Right now I can only do 10 push-ups at a time before my wrists call it quits. If I try to push through the pain then I'm sore for days and I need to be able to use my wrists in everyday life, lol.

When I clean 3 stalls, do the water, lift hay etc, I do add it as cardio, because I don't do it everyday (4 days a week at the most), and because I sweat when doing it, a lot more than if I were, say just walking for 1 hour. Plus these days, horse/barn chores also involves carrying water buckets up to the paddock on snowy…
