  • There is so much good info in these forums. I learn new stuff all the time.
  • This explains something, Thanks for sharing. I thought it was odd that I'm all of a sudden hungry more frequently. Maybe I'm just now fat adapted??? I'm a little over 3 months in and T2D but the past few weeks I'm hungry more often. I thought Fat Adapted would mean I'd be less hungry...
  • This is fascinating, thanks for sharing.
  • Add a few hundred calories per day for a few weeks and see what happens. I’ve experienced this as well and my weight loss zone is 1,600 - 1,800 calories per day on average. Less and I don’t lose and I’ll tend to feel tired. I was at 1,500 calories per day but I lose more weight and feel better at 1,600 - 1,800 calories per…
  • Congrats, it’s good to see long term success stories like this. It’s not uncommon for someone to say something nice about weight loss, ask how you did it, then when you mention Keto they tell you it’s not sustainable or warn me about cholesterol. I’m less than 4 months in so I just say thanks and move on. This is inspiring…
  • Thanks for sharing. I was diagnosed T2D in June and I tested BG after every meal and logged everything I ate. It became obvious the impact of carbs on BG so I went Keto. Since then I’ve had good success keeping my BG under 100 mg/dl and I’ve lost over 40 lbs. You are correct in that many others don’t want to hear it. I…
  • That is so awesome!!! Super happy for you!!! I’ve got blood tests in 3 weeks and am hoping for similar results.
  • Great job Emma, you look amazing!!!
  • I tend to be cold now too. Enough that I keep a jacket in my office at work and often wear a sweatshirt at home. That all started about 2 months into Keto. I’m 20 g net per day too. It may be weight loss more than Keto, at least I’ve heard that from others.
  • I probably need to stretch more... I'm pretty good on magnesium, potassium and salt with supplements. Thanks
  • Thanks for the reply. This is great. Would you please explain what you mean by "bioavailable micronutrient density" in layman's terms? I really appreciate everyone sharing their expertise and experiences. It's super helpful to me.

  • I just added myself to the spreadsheet and backfilled the past few months from my tracking on MFP. I like the idea of a more public accountability that motivates positive actions. Would also love to make friends and learn from others on this journey. Original Weight when starting diet was 276 lbs on June 11, 2019 Sept 1:…
  • Thanks for the feedback. I so far haven’t put a lot of thought into where calories come from and focused on net carbs and macronutrients. But I’m only 90ish days into this and to really make it a lifestyle I want to expand my knowledge and make improvements that will improve overall health. Life makes it hard to be as…
  • Thanks for sharing, this a nice read and I'm happy to see the ADA providing guidance that is in line with my own experiences.
  • -What lower carb plan do you follow? - Keto, 20 Net Carbs per day - -How long have you followed a lower carb way of eating? - 90 Days - Do you plan on continuing with lower carb after your weight loss phase is complete and you transition into maintenance? - Yes, but as once I get to my target weight I'll evaluate the…
  • I also have gained and lost 40+ pounds numerous times in my life. I like to think I’m really good at it but I totally suck at maintaining weight. My biggest weight loss was in 2011-12 by counting calories on MFP when I went from 308 to 185 lbs. Then over 7 years gained back to 276 lbs and was diagnosed as Type 2 Diabetic.…
  • IF for me is really easy way to keep reduce calories by having only 2 meals per day instead of 3. It seems a little goofy to me anyway as my "breakfast" is coffee, creamer and MCT oil. This is 167 calories for me. In Ketosis the MCT oil is energy that just stems hunger for 4-5 hours. So there is a "meal" there it's not…
  • That is so true. My struggle with weight loss historically is that I get hungry and portion control isn't always easy for me. That's one advantage of Keto for me, I rarely get hungry and portion control is much easier. I also only eat between Noon and 8 PM typically, that results in a daily 16 hour fast (other than coffee…
  • I completely agree that it's a good idea for diabetics to approach this with the consult of their doctor and/or RD. The reality is I have absolutely no idea how sustainable Keto is after 3 months. My sense is that it wouldn't be an issue to sustain it forever but we'll see how that pans out. That was exactly the concern my…
  • I was referring to Net Carbs, sorry for not being clear. I should note that I did all of this under the supervision of my doctor and I did state “I would never advise you to do anything without communicating with your doctor...” Maybe I shouldn’t share my story on here. I don’t claim to be an expert but my experience is…
  • this is fantastic, great job and thanks for posting. I lost over 120 lbs in 2012 with calorie counting, gained about 100 lbs back over next 7 years before being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I found similar to you that my body just wasn't tolerating carbs and ended up on a Keto lifestyle and now have lost 36 lbs over 3…
  • thanks for sharing and truly inspiring. I started this journey 3 months ago myself after being diagnosed at Type 2 Diabetic. Seeing this is helpful and reinforces my own resolve.
  • I also was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in June. I followed my doctor's direction to lose weight and change my diet. I began to check blood sugar levels after every meal. I was meticulous to follow the American Diabetes Association diet plans as instructed by my doctor but my blood sugar levels were 200-300 mg/dl and…
  • Sauté 12 oz. chicken thighs in olive oil while cooking frozen bag of cauliflower in microwave. Take steamed cauliflower bag and mix in with cooked chicken. Toss in some baby Bella mushrooms and 1/2 cup of Alfredo sauce and cook a few more minutes. I split this into sealable dishes and make 2 lunches that can be warmed up…
  • I have similar concerns but 2.5 months into Keto diet and thrilled with the results in terms of blood sugar, weight loss and just generally feeling good. My doctor suggested that I need to lose another 55 lbs so I want to stay on current Keto plan of 20 grams of carbs with 70% fat, 25% protein and 5% carbs. Currently at…
  • Metformin seems to help me and I don’t see much in the way of downsides. I also want to avoid insulin shots. I found for me the limit was 20 grams of carbs with Metformin and regular exercise would produce an average of 91 mg/dl. I also do IF and don’t eat between 8 PM and Noon (other than coffee with sugar free creamer…
