  • I can't believe how many people on this site seriously believe "a calorie is a calorie." That is no true. Yes, a deficit is all you need to lose weight… AT FIRST. This is true when you have a lot of weight to lose. But if you're like me, it is always about 3-5 lbs of weight. I can eat at a calorie deficit, meticulously…
  • Thanks. Yeah I've seen that video before. I think perhaps my problem is that I'm not grabbing at the exact right spot - specifically my abs. Plus this guy in the video does everything on his left side, but literally everything I've read says to take measurements from the right. I've looked all over for very clear video,…
  • You think? I feel like most people use it for weight loss and calorie counting. Not that I'm insulting that, I'm not at all. Thanks everybody for your replies!
  • It's a numbers focused world. But I've seen people with similar numbers look completely different. So many components going into it that you can't measure or weigh. While I put on muscle easily, I don't actually weight lift. I know I could, it's just not for me. So my arms are relatively small, but strong. Some women weigh…
  • I was hoping this was the case. Thanks for easing my mind a bit. Just after my knee injury a few years ago that I mentioned, I guess it's left me a little more paranoid.
  • This was a thought of mine as well. Before I upped my exercise 2 months ago, I wasn't exercising much because I hate winter weather. I noticed that on the days after I exercised, I usually weighed more. Which I contributed to water retention. So it's possible that I'm losing even more water from being sedentary? I'm…
  • I am absolutely not underweight. You can't determine that by some stats alone. Bone structure plays a huge role. If I weighted 125 lbs, I would be chubby for my frame. Or I would have to really bulk up my muscles - which I can do contrary to what most people think of girls. I put on muscle easily. But that's not the look…
  • Oh, and regarding what I eat. Well I don't really follow the same principle as most on this site, so I don't really count calories. Obviously when I input my foods on here, I can see roughly what they probably are. But I also don't measure everything out. I'm a very strict vegetarian. I do eat eggs. So most of my foods…
  • I think my nervousness is compounded by a previous experience. I tore meniscus 4 years ago, which resulted in a "bucket handle" tear. Which means it tore in the middle creating a sort of hole. It then flipped and wedged between my joints so to speak. This meant I couldn't move my knee at all. It was locked in a 90 degree…
  • I just used the Wahoo Fitness app and I'm pretty happy with it. It does ALMOST everything I wanted. I like the interface as it's really simple and you can choose which stats you want to show. I have found that a lot of apps are overly complicated for what they are (I've looked at them all, but only used 3). But this one is…
  • Thanks for the responses. I did get the phone and I've been playing with it a lot. I'm new to iPhone, so lots to learn for me. Like I didn't know that when you double clicked on the home button... that the icons that showed were the active ones. I've been wondering how you can tell if apps are actually closed or not. So…
  • Calories are calories in terms of weight gain. But like MissMessy said, it's also about health. In addition, even if you lose weight, you still need proper nutrients to build muscle and have a "tone" look, if that is your goal. I personally don't think that having a junk day is a big deal. I mean if you love that kind of…
  • Oh yes... and beans. Lot's of beans. They are yummy!
  • I'm a vegetarian (10 years and counting) and I don't find it TOO difficult, but definitely not easy. I am a pretty strict Vegetarian. The only animal products I do eat are free range eggs and products containing dairy. I don't drink milk directly and prefer almond milk to the others. I don't eat cheese containing animal…
  • Ew... dare I say ease off on trying 10 different things on top of the other? You could be making it worse. You didn't say what exactly was hurting. What kind of pain? Throbbing, shooting, sharp? Is it isolated in one spot or does it seem to move? Does the pain increase when you move certain parts of your body? Do you…
  • Well the best I could guess is that if you aren't able to use a HRM then compare how you feel to how you feel when you do something you do know the calories for. For an example. If jogging makes you feel moderately out of breath and tired and you know you burn 300 calories in 30 minutes and you feel the same the entire…
  • Wow... I had no idea what either of those activities were. haha. Fascinating. So I had to look them up. I would imagine that something like that would be hard to assign a specific calorie count because it seems to me that the level of activity could vary drastically. But then again, I've never played!
  • Yes..... all aboard the asparaBus! Oh god it's late! haha.
  • AND... they are one of the best for you! :drinker: :drinker:
  • Yes that's true! BUT... being close to the north shore yourself, I think we can agree that if I had a road bike I might kill myself on these trails. haha ;) I did the MS ride on my FS bike (65K) here in Vancouver and was cursing all the people easily riding up the hills on their roads bikes. haha. So yes, definitely do…
  • Just FYI... If you decide to go with a youth bike, I would still recommend staying away from the walmart bikes. Go to a bike store for sure. They will have normal youth bikes that have reasonable tire sizes. My bike is pretty small (though perhaps still bigger than you'd like) and it pretty much looks like all wheels!!
  • MMMMM....... Asparagus! I just boil them because I'm lazy. But steaming them is the best. And though tomatoes are actually a fruit..... they go better as a vegetable in terms of mixing. I like to add a few plum tomatoes on the side (uncooked).
  • I don't know how small you are, but I know somebody who is very short and she got a youth bike. The bonus to that is that she was still able to buy a decent bike, but it costed half the price. I'm 5'6" and do a lot of mountain biking. So I actually prefer to ride a bike that is on the small size because it gives me a bit…
  • So that was totally called for. Relax. All I'm saying is there are a lot of different methods and approaches that work for different people. And I do use different site as well. I like to have different kinds of ideas tossed around. If you like this one and it works for you then great. I like parts of things here and parts…
  • This site is REALLY big on eating back your exercise calories... but lots of sites aren't. I see the logic behind it, but at the same time.... even if you read Jillian's books.... she doesn't say to eat them all back, and this site is big on her as well! Her book "making the cut" just has you eat your maintenance. And not…
  • And I don't think that it will ever be eliminated completely. But you have to go to the source as with any issue. And women objectifying themselves, is not the source. It's a contributer, but not the source. I guess all my women's studies classes and phycology courses don't hold up here, but as a woman, I can say I do not…
  • Well if you would look at the origin of my comments, you would see that it wasn't really about me complaining. To be quite frank, though I can see why women would be bothered by this, it doesn't really play a huge part in my life. I was simply commenting on the post to address the fact that it isn't as simple as she put…
  • Oh wow. Sorry, but I think you need some education around women's studies and where all this comes from. Shall I just start by saying that though yes, women feed it.... it is often a requirement for women to get where they want in terms of media covered careers, and other careers as well. All of which are headed by MEN for…
