• Interesting read. I definitely think that part of being in a relationship means you will see the other person at their worst. I also think that some people take the "at my worst" sentiment too far and use it as an excuse to be a jerk all the time because they're "worth it." Nothing gives you the right to disrespect other…
• Lol, the point of this post is ALREADY lost on most of the people who replied! You are supposed to be disgusted by the idea of cutting your gums. The comparison is meant to make you think about why this isn't socially acceptable, but having bariatric surgery is. It isn't meant to be taken as an actual weight loss…
• I haven't read through the replies, so I'm sure I'm repeating what you've already heard, but... I used to lose weight very quickly. 2 or more pounds per week a lot of weeks. This is when I was in my early 20's, so I can probably attribute most of that to metabolism. Now I'm lucky to lose a pound every 2-3 weeks. This…
• Ooh, I just thought of something else, too. At one school where I taught, kids could request vegetarian meals. They were actually kind of disgusting, but ... It wasn't something the cafeteria advertised, but if you talked to the workers, they might be able to hook you up with some sort of a special lunch that isn't so high…
• These are GREAT replies! Lots of food for thought. Thanks so much, especially you guys who are telling me to be direct. It does CRACK ME UP how men talk to each other. So mean! Women would be at each others' throats if we were that direct with each other! Lol. When it's come up, I have been pretty direct with him about why…
• Ah, school lunches. I ate them frequently when I was teaching. If they are using lean meats, whole wheat, etc. good for them! The ones at my school were crazy unhealthy (and not usually tasty, either.) I would first see if you could get actual nutritional info from the school district. If they're truly using "healthy"…
• Thanks for your reply! I'm not offended in the least :) It's really not an attractive or being attracted issue. I am attracted to him. I just know that if I compromise on what is important to me now, I will regret it later. (The whole, "Don't date/marry someone and expect them to change" thing.) However, I know people who…
• omg, what is wrong with all of you?? STOP TANNING!!!!!! Every time your skin gets darker, those are your cells mutating. Let them mutate enough times ... cancer. Not to mention wrinkles, leather skin, moles, age spots ... Guh-ross.
• Ugh, the worst was when this teenage stick figure of a girl was at mine and would sit at a machine, do 2 or 3 half-hearted reps on the lowest setting, and would spend the next 5 minutes playing on her phone. I don't even understand why she joined a gym.
• I make a lot of Thai/south Asian-inspired dishes that call for coconut milk. The type you get in a can is loaded with calories. I find that substituting Silk coconut milk still gives you some coconut taste. The sauce is thinner, too, but it tastes great. Here is an example from AllRecipes.com of a typical recipe I make: 1…
• I know a lady whose e-mail is "hislovingwife@..." ... Guh-ross.
• That does help - had not thought to go to that type of store. I will check - thanks!
• I think the OP just wanted to start a thread expressing the opposing view. In the other thread, several people were rude and condescending to those of us experiencing plateaus. Sure, weight loss is an input/output thing, but there are other factors happening that don't always make it easy to know exactly what that input…
• Why, thank you :) I have found it quite educational, myself.
• Cool... Thanks, everyone!
• Ah, that makes sense. Yeah, I don't know why I entered the exercise differently in the first place, haha. I just like to make my life as difficult as possible! :ohwell: Thanks for your help.
• I set my activity level as "lightly active" on MFP and said I'd work out 3 times a week for 30 minutes. (I actually work out more like 5 x/week) I told IIFYM I work out 4x/week. Somehow they came up with almost identical BMRs. But IIFYM tells you to eat MORE than your BMR ... I guess that's what I'm confused about.
• Did u see my follow up post? I wanted to clarify a few pieces of info. Sorry, no! I did not see this questions until you said that: What was your weight in mid july when you started? How long did it take to get down to 170? Did you really only eat 800 cals last saturday? I'm almost done I promise. July 4th I "restarted"…
• I did say it....you are measuring your food not weighing it...to loose weight you have to be in a caloric deficet. But not to hijack this thread any longer as it is about an article on the often over used phrase of "STARVATION MODE"
Huh? I am weighing my food. Did you not see my other post? I have a digital scale…
• Sorry if it wasn't clear ... I am weighing and measuring. I have a digital scale. I measure if it's more appropriate, like say, 8 ounces of milk or something.
•
Stop eating fast food 5-6 days a week and I promise that you will see the scale move again. Also, I am not gonna call bs on you but a good majority of fast food you eat are combo meals yet there is not a drink recorded...
I don't get the drinks ... I am too cheap :) And yes, I need to break my McDonald's…
• Just unlocked it ... didn't realize it was not public already! I'm not going to say I'm the world's greatest eater, nutritionally speaking. (That's something I'm working on ... breaking my Subway habit, lol!) But I rarely go over my calories. I really am open to insights. I'm not trying to cheat when it comes to counting…

• I'm not sure what you mean by gross/net - like I'm eating 1440 after exercise, or before? (I get what the words themselves mean, just not sure in this context), But maybe this will help - MFP tells me to eat 1440 a day based on a "sedentary" activity level. (I am not actually sedentary and do not eat back my exercise…
• But isn't that essentially saying then that there's no such thing as plateaus, only a plateau of calorie consumption? There's no way there's not something else going on with me, other than "eating too many calories." I'm really not in denial here. I'm measuring/counting everything, I work out 6 days a week and I'm eating…
• Fat is not in and of itself bad for you. Most "fat free" or even "reduced fat" versions of foods are fake - they tend to add a lot of other questionable ingredients to make up for the lack of fat. Most fat-free dressings, for example, are loaded with sugar. I'm not going to pretend the complicated nutrition of fat, but in…
• I have been stuck at a plateau for weeks now and I am definitely logging calories accurately. I measure/weigh EVERYTHING I eat, I don't drink any calories (water only), I overestimate calories when in doubt, and I don't eat back my exercise calories. I don't believe I'm in starvation mode - my only point is, when you say…
• The OP said she wants to *ease* back into calorie counting after having an arguably easier system with WW. (Note: I actually think MFP is easier than WW, but I didn't when I was a new "convert.") Obviously we all know ALL calories count, and that excess calories make you gain weight whether it's from funnel cakes (mmmm,…
