I've had the same thing from time to time, particularly when I've worked had on the big muscles in my legs. If memory serves, resistance training can help boost metabolism for up to 36 hours. Also, almost any kind of hard workout causes micro-tears in the muscles involved. Your body will generate plenty of heat in the…

I won't know if I can make it until the Saturday before. Sports finals and such.

another one I came up against today: If your gym, like mine, only has 1 shower for guys and 1 shower for girls, 45min showers are just not on.

I went to a private catholic high school (even though I'm very much an atheist). Our uniform included dress shoes, tie and blazer. We used to cop some flack from other kids about it, but most of us liked our school and took pride in the uniform. The public school down the road had a uniform, but it wasn't compulsory.…

At the gym with my headphones in, I hear nothing and see nothing. Everyone else could be naked for all the attention I pay. 90% of all the silly crap going on has no effect on me. There's really only 3 things that get to me: - People leaving dumbbells and plates laying around on the ground all over the gym. I'd rather not…

I'd suggest reading up on something called a re-feed (or carb re-feed or re-load, and a few other names too). This is a good starting point: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/sclark60.htm Just don't go over the top crazy with it, and don't do it too often. It does require some willpower to go straight back into your normal…

Somewhere up around 12 lbs. When I first started I had about 110 to lose, and went onto a bit of a crash diet for the first 4 weeks.

I've been overweight my whole life too, also with knee (and ankle) problems. Knee came about from a collision with a baseball bat rather than a train, but still initially an impact injury. Used to swell every couple of months to double its normal size. I'm finding the more weight I lose, the less pain it gives me (ditto…

Happens to me at work all the time too. So many people ask me how I'm doing it, and then don't believe me when I tell them. Some of them get quite snotty with me, like I'm keeping a big secret from them. Admittedly it probably is easier for me, given that I'm a guy in my twenties and most of them are middle-aged women…

In Western Australia, a lot of junior sport takes place on Sunday mornings, same time as church. A lot of kids who go to church never get to play junior sport. I imagine that could easily be part of the correlation here.

I still cycle outside in the rain, in wet weather gear. Most of my workouts are in the gym, all year 'round. Local Snap Fitness in Myaree for me.

Damn, I missed it! Didn't see the thread. I'll have to keep an eye out for the next one.

Where do I start? Ties are easier to tie because I don't have to make them so long to go over a huge belly I don't get out of breath ties my shoes because my belly doesn't get squashed while I'm doing it now Showers are shorter because I have so much less surface area Saving massive amounts of money by having my food…

At the moment I do 90x8. It'll go up again when I start doing it regularly again.

Height first. If I've got a beard at the time, they remember that. It's red, where as my hair is a lot darker. Otherwise, broad shoulders and solid build.

All food in Australia has to have it listed in KJ by law. A lot of things don't have cal on the label. But then, having gone though maths, physics and chemistry in school and uni in Australia, I find it easier to think in KJ anyway. Out of interest, an actual calorie is the energy required to heat 1 gram of water by 1…

Took me a while to notice the difference too. I think of it as mouth hunger vs stomach hunger. I don't think my stomach had really felt hungry for years before I started getting into shape.

You lose about 1cm (about 2 fifths of an inch) every day due to gravity compressing your spine, and then you gain it back again at night while you're lying down. I can see squats possibly adding to that, but you still regain it at night.

About 3 in the afternoon for me. I like a relaxed morning, then after lunch has gone down, do my workout, come home and have my post workout shake, and by the time I'm hungry again it's dinner time. My job allows me to get pretty close to that, except for the relaxed morning bit. Most of my shifts are 6am-3pm, with the…

It's not even worth looking at it. The readings can vary huge amounts either way based on how much water you've had, the humidity, time since your last bowel movement, what you ate yesterday, TOM, and about 50 other things.

I'm in Perth, on the edge of Freo.

I did that a while back and came up with about 9500 calories, and more sugar than that. Explains why I was 320lbs. It's scary to look back at that, knowing what i do now.

Regarding your morning coffee, what type of coffee do you drink? Is it instant coffee? A lot of people who are used to instant find that real coffee (from an espresso/cappuccino machine) is easy to drink without milk or sugar. It doesn't have the harsh burnt taste of instant. In can be costly to get a decent machine for…

The ONLY reliable ways to measure body fat% are water/air displacement, and dual energy x-ray adsorptiometry (this is the best one). Scales and hand held devices use electrical resistance. Their readings can vary by huge amounts depending on how much water you've had, what you've recently eaten, time since your last bowel…

I'm an Aussie too, but I prefer real rugby :P Go Wallabies and Force. The only NRL I watch is State of Origin (I'm from QLD originally) and the grand final. I also watch NFL, and while I find NFL more entertaining, I think the NRL players are much more skilled. Watching the NFL and seeing how they get injured, I can't help…

I work in a fruit and veg shop, and the first time we got them in I thought we had a gas leak. I can't get past the smell. I'd love to know what the first person to eat it was thinking. It smells awful, it hurts to touch it if you're not careful, but he/she decided to try and eat it anyway!?

Thank you Rayman. Great to read some common sense for a change mate I'm a good example of little or no cardio. I'm 187cm / 6'2". I started at 145kg (319lbs), and dropped to 120kg (264lbs) on free weights training only. I now have taekwondo training twice a week, although I don't consider it to be cardio as it doesn't get…

the low carb idea tends to be an example of a little knowledge being dangerous. Unless you're going for full on ketosis (you think reduced carbs are hard now!?), carbs are actually required for the chemical reaction that burns fat. I currently aim for about 180g carbs per day (it's gone down a bit as my weight dropped),…
