Totally outstanding! Thanks for being our inspiration!

I build snacks into my evening schedule, but low cal ones, generally and spaced hourly. So for example, I might have 100g strawberries at 8, 1/2 cup no fat frozen yogurt at 9 and an ounce of cheddar cheese at 10. Of course, you have to eat a little lighter in the day to do this, but it does indulge the urge without sending…

There was a thread on here in the last couple of months that had some pretty graphic before and afters... huge scars. The ones I thought were the worst were the arm "tucks". They weren't very tucked, tbh... about 3/8" across the scar, all the way down the underside of the arm. Could you imagine wearing a sleeveless dress…

I think I'd be more concerned if I saw alcohol on the menu every day. That said, if it were easy to change, nobody'd be fat, ever. And we know that isn't the case. We take baby steps. We change things a little at a time and hopefully that gets better and better. All we can do is come closer and closer to perfection. It's…

Don't be terrified. Look at the big picture. When I plateau I look up the "Reports" tab at the top of this page and that shows me my generally downward trend. Also, I weigh myself every day and I've desensitized myself that way. So long as the trend is downward, I'm happy. What really bummed me out was changing weigh…

Lol when I looked at the title for this one, I thought you meant weight watchers had developed a beer drinking strategy for weight loss. I suppose it could happen in a perfect world ;)

That's your brother??? I call mine "Dr. Leakey". It's an archaeologist joke (Olduvai Gorge being the discovery site of Lucy and Ardi (I think), aka the "cradle of man" and all that, and neveryoumind what Olduvai Gorge corresponds to :P).

On the up side.... when you eat less, your grocery bills go down. My grocery bills are down by half! Also, something even better... my spring bulbs are already coming up... the sun isn't totally down by the time I leave work... summer's coming!!!!!

lol and here I thought this was going to be a family violence thread ;) I had a boyfriend who once referred to his mother as "The Old Boot". Suffice it to say he wasn't a boyfriend for more than 30 sec after that.

Yeah, you guys really suffer for no universal health care, I know. We still pay for everything but the doctor but on a use basis. The doctor is limited in what he can do, but if I needed open heart surgery, it would be free. I have had american clients in that position that lost everything as a result. I have no idea what…

Hopefully this is the Plateau-minator ;)

My eyes lie. My eyes lie when I look in the mirror. They lie when I look at a photograph. I can't tell what I look like. I just look like I did 70 lbs ago. Weird and I'm trying to get over it. I don't even wear glasses. Mirrors and cameras can't lie, but my eyes can... Correction, my brain can. The best I can do is compare…

Cheese, but it's a portion control issue. I have room in my daily calories specifically for that.

I had a couple of (male) friends do it. One was severely overweight. He did the tummy tuck and developed blood clots that went to his heart. It nearly killed him. Now he takes blood thinners and the like because it damaged his heart. He was 35 at the time. It didn't stop him from regaining most of the weight either. The…

Man... I haven't had a cold since April 2008! Now I know why.. my body doesn't want to lose weight!

Hard to estimate calories on those suckers. That makes them dangerous. If you're going to give them away, make sure whoever you're giving them to doesn't have a policy about food being in original packaging. There's a lot of paranoia out there, sadly. The most important thing for us MFPeople is to keep consistent.…

On the first day of Christmas (Dec 22), my cupboard gave to me, 900 calories over my 1340 daily. The overage consisted of breakfast at Tim Horton's (900 cal) and a Cracked Peppercorn Burger for dinner (just the burger at 800 cal). On the second day of Christmas (Dec 23), I was over by 200 cal but trying to be careful.…

I just got a new scale too. It's very depressing. It gained me 5 lbs overnight between changeover between the old one and the new one. So one of them is/was lying to me. Oh well. It's the progression that counts. It does body fat and bone density and the like, but honestly, am I going to use those things daily? Not bloody…

Sort of like joining MFP and learning about BMI and BMR and six meals a day and 8+ cups water per day and MODERATION... my resolution is to learn how to exercise in moderation, because if I go way over the top, I won't be able to keep it up. What I really need is a life plan for food and exercise. I've been working on the…

A friend of mine referred to the "finished" version of this type of woman as a "vase"... beautiful on the outside and completely empty on the inside, except for what somebody else puts into her. I suppose that could be quite a sexual comment, if you took it that way. What is particularly horrifying is that someone would…

I gave up diet coke. It's not the sugar that's the problem though. I tried flavoured water (carbonated) too and I like it, but.... The only thing I found worked to get me off the pop was to drink scads of regular fresh water every day. I'm blessed to be in an area where the water tastes better than the bottled stuff, which…

Minimize the white starches, maximize the veggies and don't forget the fat. You need it. Also, DRINK YOUR WATER!!! After a very long time of not eating any white rice, I had some. Much to my surprise, all it took was one time and all of a sudden I was craving it! You won't be nearly as hungry if you can lose the potatoes,…

Iirc, I've gone over maybe twice in the 165 days I've been logging my food here. BUT... my calories have been reset over and over as I've lost weight, and I'm sitting at 1300ish to lose 1 lb. per week. I've still got a ways to go, and my plan is to increase exercise over time to keep up the loss.

This is what I've done with my inlaws: Bring veggies, salad, things you want to eat. Tell them you're under a doctor's care and that you must eat this way. If they want to share in your salad, then share, but the leftovers are likely to be yours anyway. My kitchen scale's pretty tiny and operates on batteries. Could you…

Plateaued.... check. Today's date.... December 21... check. Christmas eve dinner with my mum... December 24... check. Christmas Day dinner with the hubby's family... December 25... check. Suggestion: cheat for a couple of days.... Yeah, sounds like a plan :)

You're going to think I'm a total fluffy bunny. I hate what fat clothes look like. I hate what I look like in fat clothes. I have keen fashion sense and I'm not afraid to use it. I'm sick of being the keen fashion sense for everybody but me. It's not the only reason, but man, it feels amazing to be in clothes that make you…

Thank you very much Tonya. That made sense. Bottom line looks like "eat reasonable carbs every 3 hours". Except for the in my sleep part

off topic: Randyv99 has the cutest dog in the entire universe. Just sayin'.

I think I'd go to a real dietician with some specialty in sports nutrition. I wouldn't know if your expert is really an expert or just someone who thinks he knows.

Bring them on a "field trip" to look at the Success Stories on this website. There are all sorts of older people having huge successes here. The sad part is that until they're prepared to own the process, they're not ready to do it. You can't force it. I'm 51 and now in skinny jeans for the first time in my life. AND…
