I think sodium content is such a big factor. Especially processed foods:smile:

Surely if you eat insane amounts of food you put on weight. My experience is that if you don't monitor your intake as well as your excercise regime you can put on weight for the wrong reasons. Maybe my ballanced approach is not the right way to go:smile:

I can understand your concern regarding what the scales say. I too am motivated by weight loss. It can be only too easy to blame no loss or even a gain in weight on 'building muscle'. In many cases this is not true and is weight gain for the wrong reason. Ballance is the answer and of course cals in v cala burned as…

Amazing! Well done! Would you consider making your diary public so that your cals, training rtc can be viewed?

Interesting topic! There are many examples where calculation of cals burnt can be misleading For example sedentary lifestyle multiplied by bmr provides my tdee. If i sit at a desk at work all week but at weekends i am really active, gardening, washing car, housework etc should sendentary be changed in order to adjust my…

You have just got to stick with it. Most common reasons for not losing are: Not recording your calorie intake accurately - people usually under estimate Not recording your excercise calories accurately - usually over estimated Drinking away calories with high calorie sugary drinks or alcohol Bread! I agree that it is hard to eat back calories, especially if you are not hungry and are geared for weight loss. Mentally it just doesn't seem right. I think that most people find themselves with an end of day deficit. And don't like the idea of making up 500+ calories. The key is to fuel up during the day when you know that…

What happens when you reach your goal? I mean on the mfp site? Do bells go off and rockets launch? Do you get a special message? Excellent work!

Doctors can also be wrong sometimes

Fat2fit radio. These podcatss are well worth a listen. They refer to myfitnesspal quite a bit. There is one podcast that discusses eating back calories burnt during excercise. They have a different standpoint.... Which is interesting.

I think it was Winston Churchill who said that success is going from one failure to the next with the same level of enthusiasm

My point is that by holding on you reduce the amount of effort required so you would be better lowering the incline and not holding on at all - and get the same effect. Holding defeats the object of increasing the incline (in my opinion)

Thank you all for your comments. The articles you refered to are a great read and very informative.

Its ok to say listen to our body, but i would guess that most of us needing to lose weigtht got here through not doing that! I sometimes eat when i'm not hungry because i know it is the right thing to do eg. To get consistent meals during the day. On the other side of the coin i sonetimes get very hungry and stop myself…

I would also be interested to hear replies on his topic. Some days i can burn 700 cals in gym but im reluctant to eat up to my total calorie allowance, espeially if i'm not hungry! I suppose the answer may be in the results! If you are losing weight and it wirks for you fine. The general feeling seems to be that if you…

Interesting comments. I'm no expert and i struggle at times to understand some of the complexities of weight loss. However, keeping it simple is always a good idea. Calories in v calories out. Most people 1/ do not caculate calorie intake correctly 2/ go off track by complicating their diet & becomng more extreme or…
