  • I usually walk for 5 minutes before starting to run. Likewise when I cool down. I know static stretching is now frowned upon but I have always done it and there is no stopping me now! I typically do toe-touches, quad stretches, lunges and a calf stretch. My calves always need a bit of a warm up or I pay for it later.
  • I hate running on the treadmill so much I am getting more bold about running in inclement weather. Saturday I ran through the rain rather than going to the gym. I am running a 5-mile race in a few weeks that takes place no matter what the weather is so that is incentive to face the adversity now. When I do end up on the…
  • Hello all! My name is Matt, and I will be running a half marathon in May. I have never actually run in a road race, only on my own so I'm really excited to take on this goal and check this off my bucket list! I'll be running a Valentine's Day 5-mile race in preparation. I am currently running 3 miles pretty comfortably so…
  • Great job! You must feel so much better!
  • It takes time to develop the right habits and I know exactly what you are referring to when you stop logging, I have done the same thing. It's amazing how much crap you can eat when you don't enter it. Now I just enter everything and make small changes to keep cutting back. Keep it up! Good luck!
  • I definitely understand your challenges considering my wife is pregnant and is totally entitled to eat more than me! It comes down to you doing it for YOU! It's balancing act, right? You need to make healthier choices but you need to find a way to fit those choices into your life. I am sure once you start feeling…
  • Eminem- Survival DJ Khaled- All I Do Is Win Nonpoint - Everybody Down Great idea for a post! Not sure it's a success story though!
  • Congratulations! You certainly earned it with that kind of perseverance to stick with it!
  • Welcome! I'll send you a friend request. Sorry to hear about your mom. It's great how you have chosen to honor her by living better!
  • Request sent! Let's do this!

  • Are you sure there is no way to add any type of activity? Even a regular walk your daughters? It doesn't have to be a lot at first, just try to do something you enjoy and you'll probably look for ways to do more of it! Good luck!
  • Congratulations on the great progress! You even look happier in your pictures!
  • Congratulations on such great progress in a relatively short period of time. As someone who is a week into my own journey this is so inspirational! I see the changes in my eating habits already like you mentioned. Great job!
  • I only wear ear buds in the weight room or when I run. I actually enjoy the quiet, meditative quality of cycling.
  • Not really offensive but I don't agree with the premise of judging people on their appearance. You have no idea what that person is going through in their life and honestly, eating healthy is not a priority for everyone. Not everyone eats healthy and works out to change their physical appearance either. He has some valid…
  • I try to replace whatever I am craving with a healthy alternative. For example, I love sweets so I make sure I have blueberries or other fruit to try to avoid having the unhealthy choice. Sometimes, like yesterday actually, the cravings are just so intense that I will treat myself in moderation. The key is to only do this…
  • I go to a local gym with your basic cardio and weight equipment. No classes or anything like that. $39/ month. It's open 24 hours which is pretty cool. I used to take martial arts for $150 a month but had to give that up when I changed jobs.
  • I think most people encounter this type of struggle at some point. For me, I try to do a variety of things that I enjoy rather than simply to be healthy. For example, I am starting to ride my mountain bike that has been sitting in my shed for 10 years because it was something I enjoyed when I was younger. I also started…
  • This is me to a T! I am a craft beer geek and love coming home to enjoy a beer after work. I was rapidly putting on pounds so I am down to drinking just on weekends now. I think moderation is key, like you said, but I also think it can be a major hurdle of extra calories too. Good luck making the adjustments you need. Work…
  • I love morning workouts. I sleep better at night when I get up at 5am every day and I'm usually asleep between 10-10:30pm every night. Getting everything laid out is key. I get up put on my gym stuff, get a good warm up and stretch and go. I come back home to shower and get ready for work. I am never overtired during the…
  • Don't take yourself too seriously and get upset when you encounter a setback. Make up your mind and keep going.
  • Happy Monday! TGIM! I got up at 5 a.m. and got in my first run outdoors. I've been running on a treadmill for the past few months but I'm looking to run a 5K in October so I figure I better start running outside. What an experience! It was early so it was quiet and just had a sense of freedom. Can't wait to do it again!…
  • Good luck! Sounds like you have made up your mind now go for it! One day at a time!
  • I try to weigh in every other week but my journey largely doesn't rely on the scale. I am focused on my performance during exercise and how my clothes fit. Nothing motivates me more than feeling my clothes get loose! Weight is something I track and obviously have a goal weight but I don't find that to be a great motivator,…
  • Just start slow. Remember whatever small steps you make today are better than the choices you were making in the past. Once you get comfortable with adding activity start pushing the intensity. If you start too hard and too fast you may get discouraged or injured. Celebrate the small victories one day at a time! Good luck!
  • I buy into this logic so I try not to eat calories burned during exercise. That being said, if I go over my base calories slightly I don't worry about it too much. Just depends on the day and if I am hungry, I eat!
  • Congratulations! My wife is currently pregnant with our first due in Sept. I will echo the two prior posts that your OB should be able to give you solid direction on this. For my wife, she has stayed active up until recently and now goes to an occasional barre class or just goes for a walk. You have to be careful of your…
  • What were the reasons you got started? Those should keep you going. I know tight fitting clothes keep me motivated to fit into them again! One day at a time... you don't fail until you give up!

  • My suggestion on the hunger is to drink lots of water and choose foods that have better nutritional value. Depriving yourself won't be sustainable. It may take a couple of weeks to figure out what what works. For me, I have plain yogurt and granola in the afternoon and it seems to keep me satisfied for a while. I also…
