  • Havent checked in for a bit but as usual found it encouraging/interesting to catch up on everyone's alcohol evolution. My goals changed from number of sober days, to total number of weekly drinks....because i found myself binge drinking occasionally on planned drinking days. And so far so good! I had 10 total last week…
  • Hmm well confined to a gym cardio can be harder because you dont get all the scenery changes and feeling of accomplishment that is biking or running on a trail etc. But yeah, i think cardio is hard *heavy breathing, sweating* so a lot of people dont like it...However it gets much "easier" feeling once you do it regularly…
  • Hang in there! A warm bath, couch and blanket, tv binge watch will still be the relaxation you crave with or without some wine. I mostly just imagine the wine part of that fantasy out of habit, when the truth is just sitting still on the couch and doing nothing is what i am wanting most. :)
  • Haha okay. Well it is really out of the ordinary for me!!! Thats why i was curious if there was any reason since the only variable that changed was doing them right AfTER running. Maybe it was just totally random but i think i will go back to doing them before my runs. I cant even walk normally right now. Haha
  • Was going to type basically the same things. ^ In addition, its hard to imagine not wanting to involve cardio in some form in your life. It makes you better able to participate in so many enjoyable outdoor activities, improves long term health/mood/sleep, and burns calories so you dont have to spend your life eating such…
  • Well i planned to drink yesterday...but 7 glasses of wine plus peer pressured into taking a shot....and i definitelty felt some of the dreaded shame today! Going to revise me plan a bit because ive noticed the last few "planned" drinking days have lead to binges. Id rather drink more days of the week...i.e. a glass of wine…
  • Thanks for encouragement! I did make it to bed without a drink last night. But it took more effort than usual.... not sure all the factors. I guess we all jyst have days that are harder to get through without our habitual indulgences...
  • Gah trying so hard to resist wine. I am cranky and tired from a ten mile run in the cold and annoyed by my husband and child and realky just want one glass to take my edge off!!! But i am planning to drink tommorow (a friend has big birthday plans, got babysitter, etc) . Gah. I turned down happy hour invite today too. I…
  • @lporter229 Like you I am still evaluating/soul searching. I had one of "those" days the last day of january. I drank 3 glasses of wine at a happy hour then we went to book club (which usually results in 15 tipsy women even without pre-drinks). It was a passout kind of night and my only true (terrible) hangover of 2018. My…
  • Pretty much any time i over-do alcohol i do the exact same thing. Spend half the night in a mental loop thinking: "Alcohol is dumb. I am dumb. Did i say/do something dumb? Why was that extra glass or two neccesary? What a waste." Nights i dont drink or drink a moderate amount-no such negative thinking or feeling! On the…
  • I drank 12 days out of january...but like you some of those were really heavy....like 4-7glasses of wine?! My goal for feb is single digits- 9 days (or less) total of drinking.... but ZERO drinking days to exceed one bottle of wine! Also i am saving $10.00 in a jar each sober day. So last month i saved $180.00 I liked the…
  • I am right with you girl. I still overdid it a bit on the weekend but spaced it out during a number of social things so i didnt feel any consequenses. Its a bit hard to participate in this thread where there seem to be a) so many people who drank far less, far regularly than i dud in the first place anf b) who have quit…
  • Yeah finding out she died several years after getting sober (from smoking/lung cancer) made me wonder how realistic sobriety is for people with certain mental/enotional/addiction issues. She went from anorexia, to alcohol, smoking... i too was anorexic, then a smoker (i quit in my late 20's), then alcohol and sex became…
  • Hahaha thanks I try to workout hard 6 days a week...which is why it seems stupid that i also was drinking 3-5 drinks EVERY DAY. Right now ive been sober 14 days since january 1st. Thats a new PR.
  • I finally bought This Naked Mind. Excited to start it. The only other book ive read on the topic of alcoholism was a few months ago- Drinking: A Love Story. Its a pretty compelling memoir and one that got me thinkibg seriously about my own relationship with alcohol. < I dont want to end that relationship, but i do want to…
  • Yeah...i havent lost or gained but i an kindof suprised too! I have been doing "damp" january but still ive cut out numerous BOTTLES of wine each week. Ive replaced them by eating popcorn in the evening sometimes but still not nearly the caloric quantity of my wine! Huh. Oh well. I am doing this for more mental reasons…
  • Yes...i think its a mild withdrawl for me. Booze helps my brain shut down a bit so i can sleep. It can be hard to slow my thoughts down on nights I dont drink :( good luck! Just trying to find new evening rituals like tea, reading, etc...
  • Has anyone else found that sobriety makes you more anti-social? I feel like i have to plan my non-drinking days for when i am not planning to see any friends specifically. And i often turn down opportunities to hang out with people on days i am trying to avoid alcohol. This seems unhealthy to me as many studies show social…
  • You will definitely get your money's worth! I just recently used one and i was sold. It takes like 60 seconds to heat up....no thermos...no boiling over in microwave...no forgotten teapots on the stove..... enjoy!!! :)
  • Oh yeah...another thing that is REALLY helping me get into tea drinking is that we bought one of these ELECTRIC tea pots:…
  • ^pretty much same type of weekend for me. Spent saturday in the moubtains with friends and by the time we finally went to bed id finished 2 bottles of wine! I paid for it sunday BUT i did sort of redeem myself by eating healthy etc It kind of "helps" me to have experiences like that because i am reminded how annoying and…
  • Ive always had vivid, frequently dark dreams but mine have been horrific lately. Like unspeakable. I've had wine on 3 evenings since new years... i was drinking 6 days a week prior... I see so many posts about how much better people are sleeping...but i wake up feeling just as groggy/hangovery (and with freakier dreams) on…
  • Tea or sparkling water is obviously best "substitute" since it's calorie free.... but this is closer to the feeling of drinking wine for me: Just Cranberry It's tart so you drink it slowly, 70 calories in 8 ounces so you can pour 2 wine glasses' worth. Oh, and it's red too! Haha Its also kind of pricey ($8) but frequently…
  • I gave myself permissin to drink today (i am not attempting complete sobriety)...and honestly to those totally abstaining, congrats! To be honest i think i would have felt better if id just held off for another day. I didnt really get the warm fuzzies or anything. I spread the drinking out quite a bit so not even the…
  • Haha right?! I dont plan to quit drinking entirely so i wont save quite that much. I'd like to save $2000. ;) ive found if my goal isnt realistic for me, it wont work to motivate me. I love drinking, especially socially, but it needs to be more of a treat...like dessert is for some people. Life is meant to be enjoyed,…
  • I'm a fake redhead and i get hit on very frequently, even in my "older" age of 35, married, even when i am with my 1 year old. Yikes. I have always been hit on more than friends who are objectively more attractive than i am. I truly believe having red hair, even fake, is part of this phenomenon! Also i am a very confident,…
  • Oh man i am so bored. I almost gave in a few times but....i think i am going to make it. Obviously its "easier" to skip alcohol when we didnt have any social plans...but still...tea, seltzer, you just dont quite satisfy. I am going to have some wine tommorow so theres that to look forward to. i better just go to bed here…
  • I am a very functional alcoholic. Most everyone i know is a heavy drinker but my tolerance has increased to the point that drinking a bottle of wine almost every day just feels normal. I agree that "Drinking:a Love story" gave me a lot of insight and motivation to change. Although finding she died shortly after acheiving…
  • Gahhh that is so weird. I didnt even search anything related. Just browsing the fitness forums. Gah some random error on my part i am sure...or.... Maybe this is DESTINY! *on further investigation it seems i must have hit "last" as that takes you to a bunch of posts from 2014....
  • Yes, you need a low body fat for abs to be seen but also you need to build them through exercise. For numerous reasons core and ab strength will help your performace, protect against injury etc etc. As far as appearance goes, ive had LESS ab definition when i was very skinny because i didnt eat enough to build any muscle…
