What did i do wrong? (Lunges post running)
I frequently do lunges as part of my strength routine, but always do it BEFORE cardio. My run was shorter than usual today (3 miles) and i only had a few minutes before i had to pick my toddler up so right when i finished running i walked for a minute than did lunges for the rest of the lap (maybe 50 or 60 lunges). As soon…

Keep adding time to planks or something else?
I've worked up to 5 minute forearm planks and think they've helped me gain ab definition BUT I am not sure if there is a point in continuing to try to add more time? I usually plank at the beginning of each workout. Should I just maintain this or will there be additional gains to adding more time?! Fyi I do many other "ab"…

Salt addict trying to justify herself...
I have a salt problem. I've always argued that my body craves it because I have low blood pressure. Lately I've wondered if because I sweat A TON during my workouts if I can justify my salt intake somehow that way... any thoughts? Or am i just crazy? How important is it in an otherwise healthy person to have low sodium…

protein and health bars
has anyone found any good info about eating these during pregnancy? I generally eat a few per week (usually balance bars, pure protein bars, or Luna protein bars) for three reasons. 1) they can be a substitute for dessert which I presume is worse for me 2) they are easy snacks when I get suddenly ravenous, or post going to…

Active pregnant ladies?
Sadly the internet is still filled with extremely vague and unhelpful advice for women who want to remain active during their pregnancy... (biking, running, backpacking, lifting)... Based on the majority of books and websites I have visited it can start to sound like women just lay down for 9 months and never lift anything…

I am pregnant! Is there a pregnancy specific tool similar to MFP?
I've used MFP twice over the years to successfully lose weight...but recently learned I was pregnant. I reset my goals to maintain weight instead of lose (I achieved my goal weight several months ago), but I am wondering if there is a better app that is specific to pregnancy nutrition that anyone might recommend? Also, I…

gastritis anyone?
yesterday i went to urgent care with what i suspected (but now have confirmed) is gastritis (possible ulcer). My internet searches have given me a lot of conflicting information- especially in regards to how diet/alcohol/lifestyle contributes to it... I seem to hear that the idea that spicy foods, caffience, tomato etc…

is it normal too got days without pooping when dieting?
i am tired of searching "poop" related topics into google and not finding relevant answers. I don't feel particularly constipated, though ive upped my fiber a lot and it has made me gassy, but is this happening to anyone else? I used to go only once every two days, but now it is more like 3 or 4 between poo-poos? Is that…

if your resting heart rate is low (less than 55)
1)If your resting heart rate is low (say less than 55) will that effect how many calories you actually burn? (increase or decrease?) 2)Will that effect how many calories an HRM would say that you burn? 3)Will that effect how many calories an exercise machine like a stationary bike says you burn? 4)Has anyone found an…

sugar alcohols and calorie calculation confusion...
I always use low sugar protein bars.... but recently noticed the numbers arent making sense on bars that include "sugar alcohols". Example: Metrx protein bar labels says it is 300 calories. Fat is 9grms (x9= 81 calories) Protein is 32grms (x4= 128 calories) Carb is 32grms (x4= 128 calories) TOTAL: 337!!! Now.... it says…

net calories... average or daily more important?
So after noticing my weightloss slowing i decided to take the advice of many here and start to increase my net calories (i burn a lot through exercise). However, i am wondering if the AVERAGE net calories (say, weekly) is more important. For example, i try to take one day off a week (or really light exercise) and my net…

best calorie calculator online?
According to MFP biking an average 15-16 mph for 90 minutes burns more than 1000 calories. According to the bike i just road (programmed to my weight/height/gender) i burned half that. Is there an online calculator i can rely on that takes as many variables into account as possible? For example, i would really like to be…

optimal caloric deficit for weight loss?
Having trouble finding this simple answer.... What is the optimal caloric deficit for weight loss? I burn 500-1500 calories almost every day from exercise... and i am eating around 1000-1300. This causes my net calories to be very low sometimes but it is just because i am burning a lot. I feel healthy and energetic and am…

day of rest?
Is it important to take a day off from working out even if you feel energetic/aren't sore? If so, why? How often? Also, it you are working out...say with 6-7 mile runs...would doing a slow paced 3 mile run count as a "rest" day?

How long before it counts as a plateau?
Just curious... People talk about them all the time, but i just wonder how long a person's weight must remain stagnant before you really need to consider it a plateau and change something up in your diet/exercise routine?

trouble eating 1200... should i really eat when i am not hun
Since upping my protein intake which was formerly quite low (I am a vegetarian, but don't eat nuts or beans often enough)... i am definitely experiencing the "filling" qualities of protein. I work out a fair amount (this week biked 70 miles, ran 20, and circuit/strength trained for 100 minutes). I am worried about messing…

"you never truly recover from an eating disorder"...
I have now encountered quite a number of posts addressing eating disorders and was just thinking what a shame it is that so many people believe that it is a permenant identity to be "eating disordered/anorexic/etc". Even my own therapist (years ago) and many books i have read suggest this sort of deterministic attitude:…

physical proof that the BMI (or a number) should not be the
now this is just my experience, but as someone who has been all over the map in weight (from 105-175) i have always struggled with the concept of a 'goal/healthy weight' and i think there are a lot of misconceptions. I hope these pictures arent too graphic, but i just wanted to show you what MY body looked like (i am 5'7")…

"starvation mode".....
ok. i understand that a person's metabolism is influenced by their overall intake, but i am really confused about the whole concept of starvation mode. it seems like whenever the topic is brought up people bring up anecdotal evidence which is not helpful to me... ex) 'when i was eating less than 1200 caloreis a day, i…
