gastritis anyone?

yesterday i went to urgent care with what i suspected (but now have confirmed) is gastritis (possible ulcer). My internet searches have given me a lot of conflicting information- especially in regards to how diet/alcohol/lifestyle contributes to it... I seem to hear that the idea that spicy foods, caffience, tomato etc actually DONT contribute and DO contribute in equal measure. Anyone out there with this diagnosis? (btw,.... i am also taking my doctor's recommendations of meds- prilosec maalox and something over the counter i havent picked up yet). I ate pretty bland foods yesterday because i still wasnt feeling well, but i don't want to start living on banannas and toast if i dont have to. At the same time, i can't be laying in the fetal position just because i love margaritas and salsa....
Anyone who has gone down this road and found a way to manage it, i'd love some suggestions that dont just involve eating a million tums...
