What did i do wrong? (Lunges post running)

I frequently do lunges as part of my strength routine, but always do it BEFORE cardio.

My run was shorter than usual today (3 miles) and i only had a few minutes before i had to pick my toddler up so right when i finished running i walked for a minute than did lunges for the rest of the lap (maybe 50 or 60 lunges). As soon as i finished i knew id done something wrong as it felt like my hamstrings kind of seized up! They are still incredibly tight and i am worried it will be worse tommorow for my longer run!

I know someone smart can explain to me why this sequence was so different in its impact as i usually do so much more running and strength without experiencing muscle soreness at all. Why is the order so important?!?!

It's quite possible that you did nothing wrong...sometimes stuff like that just happens.

Doesn't sound too out of the ordinary to me. Try a foam roller.

Haha okay. Well it is really out of the ordinary for me!!! Thats why i was curious if there was any reason since the only variable that changed was doing them right AfTER running. Maybe it was just totally random but i think i will go back to doing them before my runs. I cant even walk normally right now. Haha

Maybe you got dehydrated and had a bit of a muscle spasm. Try to stretch gently and keep it loose. Maybe an Epsom salt bath would help.

Perhaps your muscles were fatigued after the running and your form wasn’t as good as it usually is when you do your lunges rested. Especially if you were trying to do them quickly so you could pick up your toddler.

In any event, you might want to reconsider a long run tomorrow if you are unable to walk normally today.

I agree with stretch/foam roll today and see how they feel
