  • Join a walking or running club. If you have a running store like Fleet Feet nearby, they should have one. They are usually free to join, you only pay the entry fee if you participate in a race. Take a yoga class once a week and then practice at home on your own every day. Classes are usually in the $10-20 range for drop…
  • No rest day for me. I do something every day. Typically I do yoga every day and then either power walk or strength training as well. If my body is truly tired I'll just do some yoga, but I at least do that every day.
  • I agree with you. My current body fat is 27%, and I'm overweight. I will continue to be overweight until my body fat gets down to 20% or less.
  • I always do yoga first thing in the morning--even if only for 10 minutes--just to stretch the kinks out. I do find myself yawning during that, but I think it's just my bodies normal reaction to waking up and getting air into my body. Once I begin the power walking or strength training part of my routine, the yawning stops.
  • I'm 52. I don't subscribe to the "I can't lose weight due to menopause" mentality. It's nothing but an excuse. The more active you become, the more you kick start your metabolism. The faster your metabolism, the more calories you burn by simply existing. Also the more active you are, the less you will ache. I know it…
  • This is something I struggle with, as I have three types of workouts. When I power walk, absolutely nothing but water prior. I do between 5-13.1 miles in the very early morning (pre-dawn usually) on days that I don't strength train, so no time for anything to digest before I begin. I also do yoga every day--that could…
  • My current goal is not my long term goal, it's only a line in the sand. When I get there I'm going to take a critical look at myself and determine how much more weight/inches need to go to get to my final goal of having a body that would rival Jennifer Aniston's. I suspect it will be another five pounds and total of 4-6…
  • Five miles this morning and it felt great!!
  • As a "girl" I don't understand your comment. When I'm getting ready to go do my daily five miles I pull on whatever running shorts, sports bra, and tech tank are on the top of the pile. None of them match and I don't care. My Wright Socks are hot pink and they go really well with my day-glo orange with blue laces running…
  • And overweight.
  • Exactly! Seeing photos of her, I'd say in today's average sizing, she would wear a 6 or 8. No way she was a 10 in today's clothing--vanity sizing or not. Edited to add--Marilyn Monroe ended up needing to lose a lot of weight. The later photos of her show a tire around her middle held in place with a girdle and ample back…
  • Your running, not on a date. Wear whatever is comfortable. By the way, it's going to be way too hot to run in that over the summer unless you live in a very cool northern state. You're probably going to want running shorts and a tech tank over a high impact sports bra. Also invest in really good, well fitting (Preferably…
  • "Fluffy" "Fat" "Pooh Sized" "Overweight" "Chubby" "Person of Size" "heavy-set" If you are overweight you are overweight regardless of what you call it. Making cutsie names for it is only trying to kid yourself. By the way, have you ever been out of the US? I've traveled extensively and can guarantee you that our country is…
  • The problem is that in America these days, to be "average" is to be overweight. Being overweight is not OK, regardless of how many people want to give warm fuzzies to the contrary. I'm a very curvy 5' 6" and currently wearing a size 10 loosely, as size 8 is still a bit too tight. It is not OK, even though people tell me I…
  • I have never left there hungry. Usually I'm rather full. There is no such thing as "too healthy."
  • It depends on your height. If you are a 6' tall gall, then size 10 is probably quite slender. If you top out at 4'11, you're probably overweight in a size 10. As far as sizes that are left go, it's Murphy's Law, regardless of what size you wear.
  • You need to choose more carefully then. Skip the bread. Have shrimp cocktail and wood grilled salmon with broccoli--hold the cheese--and polenta for well under 700 calories.
  • The very best choice would be Seasons 52. Their dinner entrees are all 500 calories or less, with no added fats--and they don't offer bread on the table. Another good choice would be Legal Seafoods, Ocean Prime, McCormick & Schmick, Bonefish, etc. and order grilled fish or grilled shrimp with steamed veggies. If that isn't…
  • I've got a bunch of fresh, organic basil, tomatoes, garlic cloves, and onion. I've also got some chicken breast. I'm thinking I'm going to grill the chicken, top with a slice of mozzarella, and then bruscetta.
  • I average two pounds a week. Some weeks it's one and others it's three.
  • Nothing under running shorts and a thong otherwise. No problems here.
  • Put the cats in the carrier if you need to. My dogs learned quickly that the yoga mat is not a new dog bed and when it's on the floor, they are to be on their dog beds or in another room.
  • I'm nursing a foot injury and know what you mean. I've adjusted my calories and have been doing exercise I can do--yoga and some heavy housecleaning that's been ignored for too long.
  • Great replies so far. A little more info. I already practice yoga (generally 30-45 minutes a day) and power/speed walk (five miles a day). I don't have any particular "goals" as I have no desire to do a marathon and regularly walk 13.1 so doing a half isn't really a challenge. I'm mostly looking for something to supplement…
  • The best option is to lose weight all over. As you shed fat everywhere else, you'll shed it there.
  • Swordfish is the least "fishy" of all the fish, but it's not healthy to eat more than 2x a month due to mercury levels. After that probably John Dory (St. Peter's Fish) but that's near impossible to find. Next would probably be salmon, then tuna. If you don't have a problem with flaky texture, Tilapia is a good choice.
  • My belly. I being to notice a change with as little as five pounds gain or loss.
  • Walk, swim, ride a bike. Something that will get your outside so you won't get bored.
