  • Are your clothes getting looser? You might be building muscle which could lead to the scale not moving. As long as your clothing is getting looser, it doesn't matter what the scale says. Get a body fat reader and go by that, it's a much better metric.
  • I practice yoga for 5-10 hours a week as time permits. I've found that not only is my body looking--and feeling-- good, but my head space is better and I'm more focused and positive.
  • You do NOT need to lift. Strength training comes in many forms, and includes pilates and yoga. For the cost of a mat, bands, and an exercise ball you can strength train. We're talking under $50 for items that will last with daily use for 2-5 years before needing replacement. Borrow DVD's from the library. Spend 30 minutes…
  • spinach and feta tomatoes and sometimes onion black or white truffle red/green/yellow pepper
  • Fresh pineapple and banana before running every morning. Great fructose energy, potassium, and vitamin C. Oatmeal with fruit and protein powder for breakfast every morning. On days I strength train I also have egg whites. Salad with dried tomato bits, Feta cheese, and 3-4 ounces of chicken breast for lunch with my homemade…
  • Not typically, but I just fell below my original goal, so I'll reward myself with a decedent muffin this weekend.
  • In my opinion that weight loss isn't healthy and probably isn't going to happen. Perhaps set a more realistic goal so you don't get frustrated. Make it a lifestyle change, eat clean, lean proteins, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. If you crash diet it off statistics show you'll regain it and more after you've lost. You…
  • Out with friends tonight--already figured out my food and drink calories. :) Tomorrow I'll strength train and put five miles on my feet. Sunday morning I always do five miles and then back-to-back yoga classes. At some point I need to get caught up on some work related paperwork, some housework, and spend some time reading…
  • Why not look into strength training exercise that also have cardio elements to them--oblique twists come straight to mind.
  • Last Saturday's crazies... Lady on the recumbent bike doing about 1 mph gabbing on the cell phone. Guy sitting on one of the machines watching the news on TV for over 30 minutes. Not working out, just parked there like it was a Barco-Lounger. Lady huffing and puffing with one and two pound weights at five reps per. Monday…
  • I log my cardio. I do not log my strength training although I do make note of it. I try to eat back at least some of the calories, although if I run a longer distance like a half-marathon I find it almost impossible to eat the amount of food I would need to in order to eat them all back unless I want to eat junk, which I…
  • I know plenty of people who have been overweight or even obese who have made positive changes and lost weight--and maintained that loss long term. That said, I'm not sure how your statement is relevant to anything other than proving that some obese people use every excuse in the book to justify their obesity. They might be…
  • Aw, I feel bad for that woman. It's got to take a real act of courage for someone that overweight, to join a gym and begin working out. I hope it didn't turn her off to coming back the next day.
  • If I am doing cardio, nothing, unless I'm planning on 10 miles or more, than some berries or yogurt, or yogurt with berries. If I am doing strength training, a banana or yogurt.

  • It sounds like he's doing a plank into a chataranga to upward dog or Cobra to down dog. It's a vinyasa flow movement (yoga), and not nearly as easy as it looks to do it with proper form.
  • I don't like the treadmill. When I get off, I feel like you do when you get off a boat--sea legs. I'll use it at a fairly slow pace (4 mph) as a warm up before I start strength training, or on days where it's flat out pouring, but I really try to avoid it.
  • This! I travel two hours round trip to Fleet Feet for my running shoes. Well worth the investment of time and money!
  • Saw a guy sleeping on the shoulder press on Saturday. He woke up, used the machine for a minute, moved to a different machine, settled in, and fell asleep again. He slept (snoring away) for about 20 minutes, woke up, did some exercise, went to a different machine, and took another nap. He was still following this pattern…
  • I don't log walking the dogs, doing light housework, or pretty much anything except my actual runs, yoga classes, and heavy housework--cleaning carpets, scrubbing floors, etc. I don't log strength training, although I do note it in the exercise notes just to have a record of what I did on which days.
  • Go to sleep earlier at night. Be in bed at 9:00 instead of 10:00 so you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep. When you can't wake up, it means your body needs more rest. I set my alarm on my phone for whatever time I want to get up, with a second alarm two minutes later. Just enough of a "snooze button" to start to shake off the…
  • You binge eat because you get overly hungry. Eat smaller meals more regularly or incorporate healthy snacks into your meal plan. Drink more water, it helps you feel full between meals.
  • The sneakers another person wears doesn't matter. Get yourself professionally fitted for the right pair for you. Wile you are at it, get fitted insoles.
  • I think it depends on where you live. I live in Florida. In the summer we tend to stay indoors, it's too not to be outside most if the day--except to swim. In the winter we get out and do things. Even our growing seasons are months ahead of those in the north. The thought of taking a nice long walk after dinner when it's…
  • Your opinion. It's better than processed animal by-products. You know, the stuff that typically goes into hot dogs or gets fed to pigs. (Another good reason to avoid pork.)
  • Agreed. I sometimes eat half a banana before I start, I do not use GU or any other energy supplement due to allergies to some of the ingredients.
  • You ASSume that everyone can use rice or soy based PP's.
  • I like the cheap, thin Nike ones. They stay put and are far more absorbent than they look like they would be.
  • And you have what credentials to make that assertation?
  • I disagree. I drink because Keeping hydrated when you're out in 80 degree heat is important, not because my mouth is dry. Also I feel like I can fully exhale through my mouth. I never feel like Imcompletely empty my lungs through my nose.
  • I've even using a whey isolate, but I'm changing to hemp for any number of reasons, mostly to avoid animal by-products. I mix it into coarse cut rolled outs, so it should work well for me. It probably isn't the best for shakes.
