  • Sorbets have a lot of sugar, just like ice cream, but no fat. Use organic fruit and raw sugar and it's not terrible, in moderation and as long as it fits in with your calories and macros.
  • I always cook extra, as my son likes to forage for a second dinner most nights. He's 5'11" and weighs 135, so I encourage him to eat as much healthy food as he wants. Generally speaking, I've never been a big fan of leftovers, so I tend to not cook excess of one or two extra portions for him, unless it's something that…

  • As far as asthma and running--inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. I do thisy ear round, even when it's not cold. Long, deep breaths. If you are panting or feel short of breath, slow your pace. Exhaling through the mouth will force moist air into your mouth, helping you to not feel thirsty due to dry mouth. I…
  • I do this, and it seems to be working well: Cardio every day. The amount varies by what other exercise I'm doing and what my body tells me. Monday I strength train with a PT. W & F I strength train by myself, mixing up arms, legs, abs, shoulders, and back. (My PT gives me a schedule each Monday for the other days.) Su, Tu,…
  • I learned very early on that thigh machine and I do not get along. It's the one thing I refuse to use again, ever. After an injury there's nothing wrong with taking it easy and building back up slowly. Add in some extra ab and arm work. Do skull crushers, they are great for abs, biceps, triceps, and lats all at once. Great…
  • I'm 52. I don't really know how much I have to lose. I'm set for 127, as that's my lowest weight in the past 25 years, although the reality is that it's probably going to be reset down by a few more pounds. Once I get there I'll be more concentrating on body fat ratio, and suspect that as I continue to build lean muscle, I…
  • Use other protein sources such as beans a couple of nights a week.
  • I'm taking the first one in over two months. My body told me it needed it with a lightly pulled groin muscle. I will do strength training in my arms, abs, and back tomorrow, and an easy yoga class with modifications on Tuesday. I'm hoping to resume cardio by the end of the week. Typically I do cardio every day. Strength…
  • It's a beautiful dress. I agree with many others, you need to have it altered a bit. I'd also suggest a push up bra. You won't believe the difference it will make with the look of that dress!
  • I agree with the person who said that if you've been sedentary for a long time you probably lack flexibility. It will come with time, don't give up. Just do the best you can. By the way, no one will be looking or laughing, they are worried about their workout, not what you look like.
  • By the way, wearing cotton anything is an invitation to chafe or blister. Respect your body, wear clothing made of a tech material (brand doesn't matter--under Armor. Nike, Asics, whatever.) That goes for sports bras, socks, shorts/pants, shirts, everything.
  • I'm 52. I wear running shorts, a jog bra, and a tech tank. Wright socks and professionally fitted running shoes with insoles, a headband so I don't get sweat in my eyes, sunglasses if it's not dark, and my iPhone with Yurbuds.
  • The way I look at it, when I reach my target body fat percentage, I'll be able to fit in an occasional treat. For now, I'm on a mission, and it doesn't include empty calorie foods. Also as I move further and further into an organic lifestyle, I have less and less desire to eat foods that aren't organic or that are…
  • All of them. I'm on the final six weeks of reaching a goal before vacation, and am motivated to hit the mark. Once I do, I'll reward myself with something--maybe Chinese food? Until then, the closest I'll come to empty calorie food is a child's scoop of vanilla ice cream tonight while out with friends who want to get ice…

  • Then you need to worry more about body fat ratios than pounds. Rihanna is probably about an 18% body fat ratio. She's actually thinner up-close in person than in photos.
  • Ten mile speed walk this morning. I typically do 35 miles a week.
  • Very nicely said. It's not just about loving your body, but also respecting it.
  • I weigh and track daily. I've been losing two pounds a week, so I love to see even another half pound gone as a result of my effort. That said, I don't get all wigged out when I gain a pound from the day before every now and then.
  • I need concrete goals that are realistic with actual milestones. My first goal was to get my weight to "normal/healthy" range, which I've accomplished. now rather than pounds I'm focusing on body fat. My goal is to have 20% body fat. I want this to happen by the end of the year. At the same time I'm working towards flat…
  • Yoga is a perfect exercise. It's suitable for anyone--and I mean anyone. A good yoga instructor will tell you to only do what you can do. In yoga we never strain, we never do anything that causes pain, and we never do crunches. You will learn ways of exercising your muscles that will make them long rather than scrunched.…
  • I can so relate. I was on three different meds, all of them made me gain weight. One was a steroid, which made it even worse. :( The only thing I can suggest is trying to increase the exercise a bit to increase your metabolism. Maybe in addition to the cardio add 20 minutes a day of yoga or strength training. The yoga is…
  • 5K is only 3.1 miles, you should be running that much at least until about a week before the half, so why not? I'm signed up for a half marathon and another two weeks later. The first will be my last major train before the second, and I'll just do my normal 3-5 miles a day for the two weeks in between--including the day…
  • Have you called your state or local department of health? How about joining a support group? Most hospitals and many community centers offer them and they are free. Good luck!
  • I think the boots are way to heavy and clunky looking for a pretty light summery dress like the one you have one. Go to Penney's, Kohl's, TJ Maxx or wherever and get a pair of cheap flip-flops/sandals for $10.
  • I wouldn't hire a PT who was overweight or obese. They don't need to be overly muscular, but they do need to be fit and lean. The only one I give a pass to is one of my yoga instructors, she's still got a few pounds of baby weight to lose, but her baby is only six weeks old, so I can certainly understand the 10 extra…
  • There is no one size fits all answer. I suffered from severe morning sickness through 80% of my pregnancy and only gained 23 pounds. Two weeks after delivery I was back into my pre-pregnancy pants without trying. Most women take longer, and breast feeding can make a difference as well.
  • Nothing wrong with VS, but don't get fitted there. I love their Body By Victoria bras, they fit me well and make my boobs look 20 years younger. Another thing to one, ALWAYS try a bra on before you buy it. Try it on, jump around, bend over, sit, stand, walk. Then out a shirt in. Were you bouncy or was it supporting you?…
  • Absolutely not! In the perfect world I'd be a 35D. I can wear a 34 D on the widest hooks or a 36 D on the narrowest hooks. I can not however, stuff my boobs into a C cup, no way, no how.
