  • They are probably genetically predisposed to low cholesterol. I've spoken to a doctor and a registered dietician about this, both caution that the average adult should not eat more than one whole egg a day (or seven per week).
  • Toss veggies or truffles in with those egg whites and you won't know the difference...
  • I disagree, the whole egg is double the calories. I typically eat eggs and/or egg whites 4-5 days a week. I buy the cartons of egg whites (or Egg Beaters) and whole eggs. I typically mix 1/2 cup (the equivalent of two whole eggs) with one whole egg and scramble them up. Total calories is about 140 for the equivalent of…
  • I bought a dress in the size that I'll wear when I reach my goal. I love it, but can't wear it until I drop the weight.
  • Maybe you are buying tenders or cutlets? Or are weighing post cooking?
  • My guess is that you don't weigh and measure. An average chicken breast weighs about 12 ounces and 330 calories. There's no way you could eat 3-4 of them plus a heaping plate of vegetables (and some vegetables have a lot more calories than others, ie peas, corn, cabbage, carrots) and have it equal 600 calories.
  • I'm 52, most people think I'm in my early 40's, sometimes I'll get 30-something. I still get carded about half the time, which is funny because I'm usually old enough to be the mother of the person asking me for ID.
  • Face To Face by Sevendust. That one gets me moving even when I've used my last bits of strength.
  • My scale says I've lost about 10 pounds, but I've lost two full dress sizes, so what the scale says isn't the best indicator.
  • Power walk. You'll go as fast as many joggers (I power walk 12-13 mph depending on the day) with a lot less impact. I have Bakers cysts in one of my knees as well, and power walking is low enough impact that they don't get aggravated. I'd also suggest getting fitting for a great pair of gel shoes with cushioning inserts.
  • It depends. On a regular day when I burn about 700 with exercise, I won't unless I'm hungry and need a snack (drink a full glass of water and wait 10 minutes, if I'm still hungry, I eat lean protein.) On a day where I burn 1300 or more, I'll eat some of them back. I can't eat enough food (not good for me food anyhow) to…
  • What is the tape measure telling you?
  • Moving Comfort, style #350037. Encapsulates and compresses so you get zero movement. The words "good" and "inexpensive" simply don't work in the same sentence when talking about a high impact sports bra for larger busted women. You will regret it as you age if you don't make the investment in a great sports bra now.
  • I have a health club available to me, but the only time I use it is if it's pouring rain so I can do five miles on the thread mill. Otherwise I do my fives miles (or more!) outside on the road, and do my yoga in my home--I go to a class now and then but haven't really found an instructor I like who teaches at a time that…
  • I weigh in daily and take measurements once a week. I also understand that weight can fluctuate for any number of reasons and don't get stressed if the scale inches up by a pound or two for a few days. I also don't get excited about dropping two pounds overnight.
  • I'd suggest having a snack to stave off hunger before you exercise, and then have the meal after. I get nauseated if I try to work out on a full stomach, but I also hate working out when I'm starving, and this can lead to bad eating habits.
  • A hard boiled egg or fat free Greek Yogurt. I carry an Atkins bar with me because I spend 1-2 days a week in the car visiting customers and sometimes it's just not possible to find "healthy" food on a tight schedule. It's not ideal, but it sure beats a chocolate shake and fries or a glazed donut.
  • This would be me last weekend. I went to a food and wine centered charity event and the last thing I was going to do was try to log everything. My diary probably says 400 calories. The reality was that it was probably closer to 4000. I even FOUR desserts--although only a small bite or two of each. I got up the next morning…
  • You don't know their history or their motivation. When I'm not dieting I typically only eat 1400 calories a day, so reducing that to 1000 to lose and then going back to my usual habits isn't a bad thing for me. If I'm hungry, I eat. If I'm not, I don't. Forcing yourself to eat when you aren't hungry is equally…
  • Many of the "red" states are only "red" in a few metro areas with the majority of the state being very clean. I don't think there is any corelation at all. Most people become obese through making poor choices in food and lifestyle. This is just another attempt to offload responsibility.
  • Anyone getting cash welfare is automatically getting all of those others except possible Section 8. They are also getting medicaid. That's a given. Welfare and SSDI/SSI are not the same thing.
  • If she's on welfare, she's getting rental assistance, heating assistance, a free cell phone (cable isn't a need), and if she NEEDS it for education/training, a bus pass (otherwise it's not a "need.") She's also getting SNAP (food stamps) which should be around $300 per month, more in some states. The real key is to stop…
  • How many people really know what a healthy body weight is though? My idea of healthy weight on a person might be very different from someone else's idea of healthy weight for that same person, particularly if we have different perspectives based on different heights and shapes and have no idea of how much lean muscle they…
  • I power walk at a 4.5 mph pace and burn off about 800 calories in 90 minutes on hilly terrain.

  • Then maybe take a different approach. Instead of telling them the weight you want to get to, just say that you are looking to have a healthy BMI, and that you aren't really sure what your final weight goal is as you are more interested in maintaining a healthy weight than being a slave to a scale.
  • Instead of eating, make a cup of tea. If you must eat, make it something with no fat and very few calories. Watermelon chunks, green/red peppers, celery, etc.
  • I think you are talking about a different type of test. A DEXA scan is a series of dual radiation x-rays which determine bone density. They are for early detection of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disorders. They typically cost about $250-350, depending on the imaging center and radiologist who reads the scans.

  • I think it just came out wrong. I don't think she would have even stopped you to ask about your progress if she wasn't trying to be supportive. You are making a lot of assumptions about her intentions. To be honest, the way you talk about her weight makes me think that you are very defensive around her, and if that same…
  • Slow yourself down. Stop to think about why you want to put something in your mouth. Learn to separate hunger from the rest. Drink a large glass of water and wait 20 minutes--and find something very busy to do in the meantime. If you tummy is growling, you're hungry. If you keep thinking about how good those Doritos would…
