Carol - Why are you worried about Sucralose? Also, what's wrong with coffee? If you're wanting to reduce the caffeine intake you can switch to herbal tea. I prefer a "bulletproof" chai tea than a coffee in the morning :D It's essentially an unsweetened chai tea latte made with heavy cream and coconut oil instead of milk.…

Last day of the work week for me ... woo hoo!

Happy Monday folks. Short work week for me, today and tomorrow ... then a long weekend to enjoy the Christmas holiday. Hard to believe 2014 is drawing quickly to a close.

TJ - I'm not really pursuing a challenge. I've been doing Carb Night Solution for 10 months now, and it's done wonders for me as far as appetite control and sustainability. It's also helped me lose about 30lbs or fat through diet alone in that time. So every day up to carb night my goal is to always eat no usable carbs…

Checking in (again) on the correct thread this time :D Yesterday's carb night was OK, had a few nice treats but overall it was a mild carb night which is what it should be. This morning only gained 2 lbs in water weight which is pretty good following a carb night. I have found that on carb night I find savory carbs more…

Checking in. Kim - interesting consult. What Jeff has told me is that it's fine to have a pure fat meal with no protein (i.e. coffee with cream/oil/butter), but if you do have protein in a "meal" then it's important to have fat equal to or more than the protein. Also, I wonder why AJ thinks you might store the fat you take…

Hey TJ, sounds like you've got an awesome challenge for the new year. I'm sure you and your wife can do it if you set your minds to it. Your challenge is definitely harder than what I'm doing. Will be interesting to compare our diaries next month.

Good morning folks! I'm up late, listening to Carol and John on YouTube on the big screen through Roku at the moment. It's going to be an interesting weekend. Going to a dinner Xmas party this evening ... carbs! Tomorrow night, Sunday, have another Xmas gathering with our Husky rescue friends. So might end up having a…

Looks like I cut it too close back on the 7th

Hey folks, looks like everybody is doing well and keeping things more or less under control. Congratulations ... rock on!
-
Kim - I agree there seems to be a conflict. Intuitively and medically a person shouldn't need a lot of protein unless they continually need to repair and build muscle. So for example a normal person who's not consistently killing it in the gym may need like 1/3 g per pound of lean body mass vs. 1g or more per pound for a…

Same here

Kim / Carol - I would suspect that changes begin even before age 50 for many of us. I'll probably be keeping CarbNite to no more than 200g from now on (i.e. starting Jan 1) ... which essentially means only a carb meal and a carb treat on carbnite. Besides using CarbShock to maximize insulin response for the meal, I'll have…
-
Kim ... your CarbNite macros are interesting. I myself recently have been trying to keep carbs below 300g on carbnite. I generally don't worry about the amount of fat however until the start of carbnite, once I start I try to avoid fat to maximize my insulin spike from carbs and protein. Actually there are a lot of lean…

Another day ... another calorie burned ;)

Happy Monday! T minus 10 days for those that celebrate Christmas.

Missed the live show ... seems there was a time change. Ready for another check-in week.

Thanks everyone for all the birthday wishes. You're all awesome "Pals"

Checking in ... another feast planned for tomorrow !

Howie ... so you think "fat people" are mainly responsible for Alton Brown's success? If that is true, then they can certainly make their displeasure known by not watching his shows or not buying anything he promotes. Thus he will reap what he sows. I don't know what the best tact to take in such circumstances is.…

Yes, last night's dinner was awesome. I had five palm sized slices of bread soaked in olive oil and balsamic vinegar (I tore off the crust off each slice and made a "sponge" out of the bread). We tasted several wines, I'm not a wine drinker so altogether I had maybe 1 glass. My main was an 18 oz. bone in NY steak with a…

Just checking in ... glad you're all still with me.

@Carol: So how did the podcast go? I just checked my email and saw that I got an invite this morning to watch. Unfortunately I checked my email too late (like an hour ago). Hope it went well. Hopefully next time Nick can send me more advanced warning :D

Great fun ... looking forward to the next one. I'll try to host another one before the new year.

Ditto, I enjoyed hosting the hangout ... thanks Carol for the tutorial! Lol Next time I'll know what to do. Anybody interested in participating in the next one can MFP mail me your Google+ name so I can add you to my circle and invite you directly. But I will always post the link once the hangout has started to the MFP…
