  • Hey, my name is Michelle and I'm working my way back to being 120-125 lbs. My starting weight in January was 142.5lbs, I'm currently sitting at around 135-137lbs. I was at 123lbs in 2011 but due to a very very stressful 2012 and alot of emotional eating I gained all the weight back plus some. So now i treat myself to…
  • I eat 2 unsalted brown rice cakes with a small apple flavored silhouette greek yogurt smothered on top. Turns out to be 120 calories with 10g of protein and only 3g of surgar. Very filling! And if you get bored just change the yogurt flavor or slice a banana to go on top. With a medium banana calories comes to 225, with…
  • Rule #1 for clean eating, if you can't read it don't eat it. If you can read the ingredients on the packaging and know what every item listed is then go for it but if you are reading nothing but chemicals chances are you don't want those chemicals in your body.
  • Don't listen to your scale go by your measurements! Scales are not reliable there are too many factors that can make your weight change something as simple as being "that time of the month" will throw mine off by about 5lbs. Also give yourself 4 to 6 weeks before seeing any real change on the scale. Depending on how much…
  • For a boost in motivation I went to www.bodybook.com I signed up for a bunch of the challenges and every week try to complete atleast 3 of them. you can repeat a challenge after completing it to try to beat your previous record. Also I agreee 100% with Krystal. And keep in mind exercise only accounts for about 20% of your…
  • It's people like that that make me refuse to work with customers anymore. I work in an office now and I won't even answer the phone for the receptionist. I just can't stand rude people and we get a handful of them phone here daily.
  • enter it into your food diary before you eat maybe being calorie shocked might snap you out of your binge eating. I find it helps me when it comes to cravings. Also they say to wait 15 minutes once a craving begins. Usually after the 15 in you would have forgotten about the food you were thinking of. Also you might want to…
  • Go to the following link: http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com/2011/12/individual-seven-layer-dips.html I think this is a great party snack. I'm excited to give it a try at my next party.
  • At the end of the day what she is doing is 100% WRONG! You should put your foot down and tell her to get her *kitten* to school or........... wait for it............... MAKE YOU A SANDWICH! Hey if shes gonna be sitting on her *kitten* at home she might as well put herself to good use.
  • The story of my life. My spouse routinely doesnt go to work, stay at work or is late for work. He hasn't had a full 80 hour paycheck in 2 years. And this is no exageration. He misses work for doctor appointments, dentist appointments, anxiety attacks, poor weather, sick, too sore from hockey the night before, too tired, or…
  • I found an article on this exact topic, I have posted it onto my MFP blog. Here is a small section of it that talks specifically about sugar from fruit vs sugar in pop "Although the small amount of fructose in an apple or mango is fine because fruit's fiber slows down fructose's absorption (so your blood sugar doesn't…
  • I have a cage, barbell, dumbbells, resistance bands, recumbent bike, steps with risers, chin up bar, skipping ropes, yoga mat, P90X, and total gym. I use the dumbbells every day and maybe everything else once a year. It was my hubby who wanted to build a home gym, and never use it. lol I like the CorebodyReformer I saw…
  • The formula for women is (226-age) and for men it's (220-age) As long as your heart rate is getting between 50-85% of the max rate you are doing fine. Its almost imposible to get to your max heart rate and maintain it through out your entire workout. Quickest way to get your heart pumping is do exercises that get you from…
  • ^This^ Squats toes pointed forward (for inner thigh - toes pointed outward) Squats with one foot on a rise toes pointed forward Squats with your heels rested on a set of dumbell weights (or anything of that sort) feet a little less than shoulder width apart, toes pointed forward for this one. Lunges forward and reverse…
  • Jackie Warner - This is Why You're Fat And for days I'm down and don't want to sabotage my diet "The Book of Awesome" Seriously it always cheers me up.
  • I think i know what you mean. You want exercises that work that muscle hidden under the fat so it feels like your spot reducing. Its a psychology thing. There's one exercise that i love to do to make my back fat/ muffin top area hurt. From a standing position stand with your legs shoulder width apart knees slightly bent,…
  • At the end of the day as long as you're moving, either it being running, walking, yoga or lifting weights, your still doing better than joe-blow sitting on the couch with their bag of potato chips. Its nice to see people out there do an activity that they enjoy to better their health in some way. Not every activity out…
  • 8lbs for a woman is a good size weight to test your strength and endurance. If you want to increase your strength go up in weights and reduce your reps if you want to increase your endurance increase the reps but don't choose really heavy weight. Also if you are new to strength training it is SAFER to lift lighter weights…
  • You just said what every Canadian is thinking. Good for you to have the courage to come out and say it (and let the slow clap begin!)
  • Thats just to achieve her 15 minutes of fame. It will pass. I work with someone who said shes 'X' amount of weight away from being allowed to park in the handi-cap stalls or to receive an orthopedic mattress from the health insurance company?
  • Yes, 5lbs is a very good starting weight if you are new to it. Try exercises like bicep curls, shoulder extensions, dead lifts, hammer curls, etc. all with 5lbs dumbells do 3 sets of 10 and if you are not experiencing muscle fatique after that, move up to the 8lbs. Thats what I have by bootcampers do.
  • I agree with skipping the 3lbs weights but whatever you do DONT LIFT TOO MUCH TOO SOON! You can serverly injury yourself. First try compound exercises using 5lbs then move up to 8lbs then 10, then 12 etc.... It will help you from plateauing and gives you time to develops proper form and endurance. Then if you want you can…
  • Throw away your bathroom scale! Muscle does weigh more than fat but it's healthier to gain 10lbs in muscle than not having any at all. The more muscle you build the better your metabolism. Base your weight loss accomplishments by be measurements not the number on you scale. Also the largest muscle group on your body is…
  • You don't have to go to crazy heavy weights it all depends on what goals you have in mind. I have stuck to my 8-10lbs dumbells for 3 years and i still get sore after my circuit. But i do throw in a heavier kettle bell or medicine ball just to throw my muscles off from time to time. Building the strength to lift 100lbs is…
  • I think MFP consists of two extremes Cardio people vs Strength people. Each side seems to like bashing the other. I dont know if its people just following fads or just a lack of education from both sides. There is pros and cons to each. At the end of the day it comes down to GENETICS! What works for some doesnt mean it…
  • I do compund exercises every day read my profile its call functional fitness but I was explaining that the people I deal with that hate cardio seem to only want to target one specific muscle group at a time making them appear to be a lazy exerciser doing a half *kitten* job not fully commiting. I didnt say the body…
  • I totally agree with this. I find that the majority of lazy people I try to work out with just want to sit and lift weights or lay down and lift weights. God forbid them to work out more than one muscle group at a time. I always joke with people that if a bigger person tries to pick a fight with me that they will have to…
  • OMG! You and I are practically identical. If i can find a medium rise pant usually Gap im a size 2 but everywhere else im either a 4-6 and if i wear a low rise i get major muffin top but it's more of a loose akin muffin top than a fat spilling over muffin top. My fiance says i have no curves :'( i look my best in yoga…
