  • Goals. Lots of goals. And don't be afraid to try new things. After working on my diet, I started the Couch to 5K C25K. In June I was lucky to be able to run 60 seconds. January 2, I ran a 5k for the first time. I was ready in fall, just got busy. I found out I not only can do it but kind of like running a little bit. I set…
  • You can do it. I'm down 65-70 since May. Still have some more to go. I've been on a self imposed/intentional plateau since Mid October.. getting back at it now.
  • Awesome accomplishment, and similar to the story I'm trying to rewrite for myself.
  • Congratulations. Interesting. I did mfp in 2012 from 275 to 232 then quit. it all plus some back. Started back this year at 285, down to under 225 now. The weight went back in easy, but off easy too once I cleaned up my act again. I'd actually like to taper my speed of loss averaging about 3 a week since May, but continue…
  • I just keep coming back to this for fun. :) Eating better (not crazy low cal), exercising more (running 3-5 time per week), generally more active (backpacking hiking and hunting..) My weight loss has averaged over 3 lbs per week, a little fast I know, but I keep asking myself should eat more or exercise less? The answer…
  • I started the C25K in June, into the 10K now, running more days than not. I know winter is coming and I am going to need to re adjust. My plan has been to run the weight off, then as fall approached work towards more strength training in the home garage gym and fewer runs. maybe just a couple of times a week. The…
  • Office job here. Have a sit/stand desk and I stand about 2 hours a day. Exercise when I get home usually 40 minutes a day or so, eat at a deficit and get some good hike or something in on the weekends. I'm down 55 since May so I'd say yes. It has worked for me. I typically do sets of 50 wall pushups a couple times a day,…
  • I started the C25K after I had lost about 10 lbs and was just over 270. I paid attention to my knees and made sure there was no pain and learned to stretch properly and bought decent shoes. I have finished the C25K and started the 10K. C25K was great because it ramped up slowly but gave me a consistent program to follow. I…
  • This is one thing I love again about hiking, or better yet backpacking. Go for a 6-8 hour walk with weight on your back and not only CAN you eat just about anything, you almost have to. I tend to go for 2 days without a big uptick in the calories eaten (I maybe eat an additional 800 calories per day when I am hiking or…
  • I'll walk back a little on my previous post. I do agree with liliwolf, better to set attainable goals and exceed them. That feeling is awesome when you do it. When I was setting my goals, the weight goals were based on ~2-2.5 lb per week; my reality was more than that. I also have to agree with more than just scale goals.…
  • I think you're doing OK. I am 5'8" and started at 285. I set MFP for -2 lbs per week, ate them all, exercised at some of the calories back, and generally just started making better choices. My average loss was 3.9 lbs per week, 10 weeks in I was 39.5 down. It seemed fast, but I knew I was eating good and getting exercise,…
  • Great job, and you are to be commended on your attitude. What you've been doing is working, but always room to learn what you can do better. I'm kind of in that same boat, I have lost 50+ lbs, it's been working, and I hope to learn how to to better every day.
  • Great job. Good tips shared there too.
  • Great job!
  • I don't know why I keep coming back to this post but I do. Today is a pretty big day in my MFP life. Today has been 99 days back. Today I logged my first weight UNDER where I was 3 years ago when I quit. And I have lost a total of 50lbs since coming back. I exercise more - completed several family hikes, 2 backpacking…
  • Great job. I'm down about 46 and about 1/2 way to what needs to be my end state goal (I have thought it but not yet said it aloud yet.)
  • I use an MSR miniworks I have had for years. I have always had luck finding plenty of moving fresh water, so it worked pretty good. This weekend, backpacking with a friend we used his to pull some water from a lake, with a lot of algae in it. The filter was plugged after 40 oz's. He "says" the filter had only been used 2x…
  • Every morning at the same time, before I drink anything, right after shower, in boxers. Seems like I pretty consistent way to do it. I log every day that I see a drop. I don't log the days the needle doesn't move or goes up a little. That way I don't get to stressed and my graph always goes down and to the right. :) I plan…
  • I have a desk job. Have for almost 20 years; it just got more and more desk bound as time went on. Recently, my employer has made "vari-desks" (google it) available to those of us who predominately sit all day. They transition from sit to stand in about 3 seconds. At first I thought my job (accounting) would not transition…
  • I'm 43 and have lost 43, and have more to loose. I just finished up the c25K yesterday.
  • Great job, I "finished" last night too. I plan to keep running and find a 5K to do before too long, but I have a few backpacking trips and a hunting season to deal with first. This program challenged me at every step and really has left me with a sense of accomplishment and opened doors in my mind.
  • I have a good amount to loose. I lost pretty aggressively my first several weeks to almost a month. Now 70 days into this so 10 weeks, and my total loss is 39 lbs. so 3.9 per week. I have my MFP goal set for -2.5 per week, usually eat under the calorie goal which started at like 1680 and has dropped a few times, currently…
  • 3 years ago, I lost 36 lbs using mfp. Gained it all back, and 38lbs down now, again. :) Welcome back.
  • 43 this week. Still can't believe it.
  • Good word. I need to try some music instead of just podcasts.
  • I'm 5'8" started doing the C25K at about 275. Under 250 now and finished week 7 tonight. Do I run slow? Yes. Am I running? Yes.. If it is too much for you then slow it down and make sure you don't hurt yourself. If you totally hate it, find something else with a little less impact for now. I had a doctors visit last week,…
  • I won't say you can't do it. Maybe you can, but just remember that not everything the recruiter tells you or asks of you is going to be in your best interest. You have to look out for yourself, because they're usually not. I hope you do well and are able to enlist. It was a fun time in my life, and I wish today I was in…
  • On W1D1 i felt the same way, except I had just recently got up off the couch! I'm in to week 7 now, have repeated a few days where I had a gap and the first day back was a big one, but have been amazed at how I am progressing. Last night I ran for 25 minutes with no walking (well, warm up and cool down). I remember the…
  • I am changing my diet. Not on a diet, which implies to me that I will get off the diet. I can see that what I was doing was not producing the results I was happy with. I'm finding new foods, and learning how and what to eat so that I can be satisfied and live a healthy life.
