If it's the same reliable scale, the weight is real. Wheather its clothing, water, muscle or fat is hard to say. My Fitness Pal is a tool that can be used to hold yourself accountable for your nutrition and show you whats in your food. Like all things, it can be abused. So be careful. It is possible to have excess fat and…

Really. It's not the correlation of fat kids and poor eating habits but the suggestion that they can do something about it that is rediculous and hurtful. It's NOT okay to make fun of people who can do nothing about their condition. That's called bullying. Adults can take responsiblity for educating and disciplining…

I'm 100 lbs overweight and go to my gym every day. I even do dance cardio and Zumba, run on the treadmill, get my big ol' butt on those tiny seats in spin class and lift weights in the "big-boy room". Don't let your fear stand in the way of your progress. Everyone has to start somewhere and it's always uncomfortable to…

Great work on losing the pounds. I can see a difference in the before and after pics. Don't be discouraged by how slow it feels, you are rockin it. I've got a ways to go myself, and it's easy to get overwhelmed. I keep telling myself to just take it a day a time and keep doing what you are doing! It's working!!! :)

Too awesome! I LOVE it when kids show appreciation and admiration. :) Great work!

Protein, fiber and water are all helpful, but cutting down on the sugars is HUGE!!! I am way more hungry when I eat high sugary things. You may need to adjust your goal percentages for protein, carbs and fats and make sure sugar is on your "watch" list. Find what works for you. It can be done without being hungry, but the…

I understand that a general rule of thumb is to get a gram of protein for every pound of lean body mass. My lean body mass is 122, I try to get at least 100g of protein a day and I had to adjust my MFP goals to make it so with the calories alloted. When I eat close to 100 or more, I feel stronger and have more energy, less…

Woot Woot! Love these goals and seeing everyone's progress. CONGRATS to those who made their Feb goals! You keep me movin' and workin' for it. THANK YOU!!! I missed my Feb goal by 2 lbs, but I know I can make it happen in March... we have more days! NO EXCUSES. Let's do this. My March Goal -12 lbs. 3/1: 240.8 3/8: 3/15:…

Woot woot! 10 lbs down for the month! I didn't meet my goal of being at my pre-pregnancy weight by my babies 1st birthday, but I'm only 2 lbs away. Next week baby! Next week it's MINE!!!

Can I suggest opening up your food and exercise diary? Hard to say what might be the problem without knowing what you are up to. I did the gym thing for 3 months and only lost 7 lbs. I gained 3lbs of muscle, but the 2 week vacation over Christmas put it all back on. I started MFP in Jan and have lost 24.5 lbs and lots of…

It may be your body's way of letting you know you need to balance your macro nutrients. I did a ketosis diet and low carb diets before and had the same problem with sleep, hunger and discomfort. I needed carbs. If you open your diary, you can get better feedback on what could help from other vegetarians who can do it well.…

I weigh in once a week, because I obsess over it if I weigh in more. I measure every 6 weeks or so.

Nope. I'm done with the quick fixes. I'm sure my body can cleanse itself sufficiently now that I've stopped overloading it with toxins. :)

I am a bit torn on this one. My 6yo Daughter is chunking up and it's sticking around longer than the usual "grow out/grow up" routine. I'd love for her to learn what foods are good for her and eat more for fuel than for pleasure, but she's 6 and we're just doing the red light, yellow light, green light foods for now. It's…

Just pick one thing to focus on first. I'd pick eating more nutritious food. When I make good food choices, lots more gets done and I feel better. Ya don't have to crack down, ya just have to hold yourself accountable and it makes a difference. If you open up your food diary, you could get better feedback. Good luck!

You have already won 1/2 the battle. YOU OWN IT! Personal responsibility is HUGE in weight loss success. I know that I can't control the weather, my hubs, my kids or even my dog most of the time, but I CAN control me... well, most of the time. It's a work in progress, and MFP is the best tool I have to hold myself…

RECORD EVERYTHING! Even if I don't make good food choices every time, I track it. Sometimes it's enlightening and I learn more about balance and nutrition. If I'm recording, I'm conscious about what I'm eating and held accountable.

I'll add ya. :) I got 3 girls and live in Alaska. Congrats for making healthy choices for you and your family!

Life is good. Congrats on the amazing life gain. :)

CONGRATS on the 40 lbs! I don't know how far you still have to go, but 40 should make a big difference in how you feel and what you can do. As far as physical changes, I have to ask: Where did you measure and how do you wear your clothes? If you only measure waist, hips and thigh, you may be like me and lose there last...…

I'm working really hard NOT to be the "all or nothing" girl. I've been riding on and falling off the "diet wagon" for so long that it's really tough to trade it in for driving "my lifestyle wagon." But that's why I'm here; I'm learning how to drive my proverbial lifestyle wagon. It's a bit rough because I get to decide…

Wow! So, you know a bit about nutrition and have some extra special health considerations to make too. Don't stress too much about what works for other people... including me. Just play with it a bit till you find what works for you. Good luck and keep us posted. :)

I used my BMR and the Harris Benedict Equation then subtract my 1000 cals to lose 2ppw. It was within 300 cals of the MFP recommendation, but I feel more confident with knowing how it was done and trust it a bit more. I'm 33yo, 5'10"tall and 243lbs. I'm lightly active because I have 3 small kids that keep me moving and I…

Well, 2 lbs down for this week. Not as good as it needed to be to be right on track to meet the goal for Feb, but I can still make it if next week is phenominal. I'm down 7.5 for Feb and have 4.5 to go to meet 12. Yup, I still really wanna be down to 238 (my pre pregnancy weight) by my DDs 1st birthday... Good milestone. :)

BUMP!!! I'm hangin' onto this one. These pics are priceless! I'm definitely inspired and will be posting here soon. :)

Admitting that my daughter (age 6) was gaining unhealthy weight because of my unhealthy habits. I had to acknowledge what I had been doing was WRONG and that my attitude about health will shape her and her two younger sisters attitudes as well. I want them to have the best shot at health and happiness, and that means I…

Well, sort of. Weight lifting helps build muscle, which burns fat. It's really helpful for the long run. But it adds or maintains "weight" in the short run because muscle has weight too. Also, strenuous work that makes you sore, retains water which also has weight. Cardio burns calories and helps strengthen your heart and…

Looks like you've been at this for a while and doing well with building habits. I understand the frustration of working hard and not seeing results. Without seeing exactly what you are doing for exercise and nutrition, it's hard to say what little changes could bring more happy results for you. Bumping up your calories…
