I would also like to know this. It seems, though, that people seem to start with New Rules of Weightlifting for Women and then move onto something like Stronglifts.

My lactose intolerance seems to come and go. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. I figured out I was lactose intolerant when I was ten, and avoided dairy until I got to college. Then I figured out that I could tolerate it well, but now that I'm 28, it seems to be returning. I can eat yogurt, but milk, cheese and milk…

well, I really like it with eggs. Scramble up some eggs, cut an avocado in half, salt it a bit, and eat together.

Just have fun and enjoy the music.

Mine takes me 30 minutes, so it's an hour round trip. That's ok with me, though, because I go for the classes that I love. The only downside is that I'm not motivated to drive there to just use the weights. If I don't use them before/after class, then I don't do weights.
-
It's interesting to read about people's different sizes and weights. At 5'3'', 135, I was a 4. Now, fifteen pounds heavier, I'm a 6. I think I must carry a lot of my weight in my legs and butt (muscle) and in my arms and boobs ( fat, unfortunately).

yeah, just because you have the endurance to run 3 miles, it doesn't mean that the rest of your body is ready for it. I learned this the hard way by getting stress fractures in my feet. Couch to 5k: it may be boring if your endurance is high, but it's the way to go if you want to prevent injury.

I hate "shut the front door" and other euphemisms for the f-word, like "fudge."

Go! If you find a welcoming class with lots of regular participants, you will make friends with them. The zumba/hiphop classes have been an amazing way for me to make friends over the past year. It may take some time, but you can form some very strong friendships that way and feel a great sense of camaraderie.

good info, thanks!

Nope, don't blame you for not having your face on the site. This is personal!

Some really good Thai curry...chicken, vegetables and a yellow curry sauce over jasmine rice. My husband to be home right now ( he's out a town for a guys' weekend). A heart rate monitor. Random, I know.

I have a mix of the pricier stuff, like from Athleta ( $50 capris), and the cheaper stuff, from Forever 21 ( $8 capris). I prefer the more expensive stuff because it makes my body look better and moves better with me, but I only have so much money :)

1. What did you have for breakfast? Bob's brand meuseli, 1/2 cup vanilla almond milk, 1/2 cup fat free plain greek yogurt, mixed together and left overnight in the fridge. 2. How much water do you drink per day? no idea. Enough. 3. What are your favorite snacks? kettle corn, kiwis, hummus 4. How many calories do you eat…

1. pop tart - I don't like poptarts generally, but my husband made some homemade ones one time that were AMAZING. So those. 2. doritos - I don't like doritos 3. cheez its - ditto 4. jolly rancher - ditto 5. starbust - cherry or strawberry 6. variety of skittles : I don't like skittles 7. m&ms--pretzel 8. laffy taffy - no…

You've gotten some great advice here. I definitely agree with how terrible alcohol is for my body. I look at it and it makes me gain weight, so most of the time I stay far, far away. The only thing I've not found to be true ( for me) was about cardio exercise making it harder to lose weight. Last year I lost a bunch of…

Yes, go to a doctor. I thought mine would just get better, but stress fractures take weeks to heal. I wore a boot for 4 weeks, and then walked without it for 2 before going back into working out. Even now, 2 1/2 months after my initial diagnosis, I'm trying to ease back into things. You don't want your bones to heal…
-
I don't have any advice for you, sorry, but I am experiencing this, too. I had to take 6 weeks off from working out due to stress fractures in my foot, and I'm feeling this now as I'm getting back into dancing and running. I'd like some insights as well!

I agree with all of the above--it varies a lot, depending on the instructor's moves and what you put into it. Find a class that will really kick your *kitten*. I guarantee that they're out there! I go to one several times a week; my resting heart rate is in the 50s and I can run for several miles, and it kicks mine…

Well...I love my zumba and hiphop classes and I go to have fun...I like the feeling it gives me and I love dancing...I'm not going to stop because people say it's not the best way to burn fat. But I guess I'm not really expecting it to do much for me other than burn some calories.
-
Pretty funny...I'm in the Zumba camp! I've seen the same characters in a teaching video about this guy wanting extra credit even though he'd done nothing to deserve it.
-
I agree with the OP to a certain degree, but looks can be deceiving. I've had instructors who didn't LOOK like they could kick my butt, but they certainly have, and I'm in decent shape.
-
I'm no expert, but I'd think that eating back ALL your exercise calories ALL the time might slow down your losses, but if you truly burned that many calories, you're not going to gain. To a large degree it's about what will work for you, and that will take some experimentation. I've read about people being successful…

Zumba.

I think the others have given great advice. Contact the instructor, make sure you have your rescue inhaler and use it beforehand, and go at it slooooowly. I have asthma too, but mine is well controlled with meds. So I know how scary attacks can be, and I applaud you for wanting to get out there anyway! Just be safe about…

I've been through the same thing--it's so frustrating that most stores seem to carry just running shoes. If you live near a DSW shoe wearhouse, they have a good selection, and they are labeled as to what kind of shoe they are. I would recommend buth the Ryka Synergy ( I love this one) or the Ryka Transition ( I don't love…

This is why I try to pick out more relevant books for my 9th graders...if I hated it back in high school, I'm sure as hell not going to put them through it. If you'd read "Speak" by Laurie Halse Anderson and "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini while you were in high school, I'm sure that English class would have been a…

Maybe I will try the Zigs, if I can find some that aren't for running. It's important to have cross training shoes instead of running shoes for this.

anyone?

Yes. I hated it when I wasn't in shape, but I really like it now. I definitely need music to enjoy it fully, though.
