Very cool article, thanks for sharing. It really does give credence to the idea that a calorie is not just a calorie, and eating a healthy diet is better than eating a low-calorie one of junk food.

REI sells women's padded briefs. Whenever I go bike riding or spinning, I wear them over my underwear and under my pants. They really work. I think they are around 20 or 25 dollars.

I've taken it for a while. I haven't noticed any real difference with it helping with weight loss, but I started taking it to help lower my bad cholesterol and up my good cholesterol, and that's definitely worked. It is also supposed to help brain functioning and mood, and maybe it does, so I'm going to keep on taking it.

awesome dedication! way to go, you look great!

I love this! Very sweet.

Thanks for the link to this doctor's page. He's written/posted some interesting stuff.

It really depends on the style of the instructor. I used dance sneakers ( Ryka studio D) which were perfect for the first class I went to with lots of turning and sliding, but terrible for the one I switched to, with lots of jumping. I'm still trying to find the right cross trainers for my jumpier class. I've been wearing…

I am 28, and I was diagnosed four years ago. My levels are fairly steady, but I've noticed that when my tsh goes up even a little bit, my cholesterol shoots way up ( and vice versa, it goes way down when my tsh goes down). I knew I would likely develop hypothyroidism because my mom, my aunts on both sides of the family, my…

I went hiking in Peru in June for two weeks with my husband. We didn't do any overnight hikes like the Inca Trail, but we did hike all over the Sacred Valley. My favorite hike was at Machu Picchu. We hiked up that famous mountain that you see in all the photos, Wayna Picchu. It was a solid hour of climbing steps using my…

I've not been able to workout for three weeks ( stress fractures in my foot) and I've gained 2 or 3 pounds. So for me, I want to keep working out and will as soon as I'm able. Plus, it just helps my mood. So maybe it stresses out my thyroid, maybe it doesn't, but I like to feel good, and working out definitely improves my…

Well, I don't have any answers for you, but I can definitely relate...except for me, it's dessert, not McDonalds. I eat really healthfully except for dessert, and I've wondered about why I want to eat it so much. It's interesting that you probably have no problem passing up dessert, and I could go the rest of my life…

It REALLY depends on the instructor. I've been so many different instructors' classes. Some are amazing with great choreography, fun music, and moves that challenge you, like jumping squats. They tend to attract enthusiastic students, and the large crowd adds to the experience. Other instructors' classes lack the fun and…

I'd go to a podiatrist or another doctor who specializes in sports medicine. Honestly, if walking is that important to you, then it should be important enough to see a doctor before it gets worse. I put off going to the podiatrist for several weeks because of a slight pain I had in my foot. It turned out that I'd fractured…

My husband and I went to Peru last month. We're at Machu Picchu in my profile pic. It was an amazing trip--I loved what I saw of Peru.

I would not eat it by itself, but mixed in some scrambled eggs and with a little avocado and pepperjack cheese...it's pretty amazing.

Great job! Very inspiring!

Right, yes, I've heard this and it makes sense! I guess the more specific question for me is, why do I, as an individual, crave SOME fatty/sweet types of foods, but not all of them? Like I said, I could have taken or left the super sweet margarita, but the dessert later was really what I couldn't pass up.

I fell off a treadmill one time...got distracted by the TV in the corner...so no treadmill for me! Outdoors all the way, especially at parks or running trails.

My TSH has to be under 2 for me to not feel fatigued often. So even though you're on meds, maybe your level isn't optimum for you. It's worth getting checked out with your doctor, I think. Quality of life is important!

Great job, and I really liked your message about not being an "after"--it really is a lifestyle, and I think that way of looking at it leads to ongoing success. Like you I lost weight a while back ( through exercise only, not diet, which turned out to be a problem), and now I'm starting to figure out how to get to be the…

Awesome job, you look great!

Thank you, this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. How do I know if I have a sensitivity? Do I just eliminate these things one by one and see if I feel better?

I didn't train too hard...the running was the easy part for me. The most difficult was the balancing stuff...balancing on a muddy rope, for example. I also ran around one obstacle I didn't want to do ( climbing up a wall using a rope ). It's pretty laid back and you'll see all kinds of interesting people there.

food critic, anger management counselor, lol. I was in Peru when that pic was taken, and that is cuy ( guinea pig) on that plate there!

I am in awe! You are amazing. I was thinking about skipping the gym today, but nope! I'm going!!

This is really great advice, from all of you...I feel inspired! Like the OP, I've been feeling overwhelmed with all of the options, especially concerning food ( I've got the exercise part down), but I'm just going to have to dive in and see what works. Thank you!!
