I have this problem too. It goes in cycles. When I'm eating good fresh healthy food, I feel great and lose weight and keep it off, and then eventually I end up at McDonald's and there's something seriously addictive about that stuff isn't there. Or eating pies or bought pizza. Hot, salt, fat... hmmm... Logging helps…

In these examples I would have thought it wouldn't make too much difference. There's some difference between different types of lettuce for example, but it's so low in calories anyway I wouldn't have thought it's worth noting the difference. Brown/white rice is different in terms of glycemic index and overall…

mmm, gua-ca-mo-le.... hmmm I like putting avocado, onion, garlic, chilli, tomato, coriander (cilantro), salt, pepper, and lime juice all into a big bowl and mixing with a fork so that it's still chunky. Often eat alongside meat or chicken, or just have it with chips. Mmmm, chips

Bean salads? Pasta with cheese like feta? Or peas - they're high in protein, that surprised me.

Whoo-hoo! Well done :-)

Hi Otchcake! 6am is eeeearly... I don't have a sugar problem so it's hard to give specific advice. But I remember when I gave up smoking, something that helped me was to remember that it was smoking that caused the problems, not relieved them. I would feel stressed and strung out, so I would have a smoke and it would feel…

Weirdly, I have never thought about observing my skinny friends to see what they do that's different to me! I'll take notice from now on.

Dwayne Pipe. I also had a great-aunt named Edna, which was fine until she married into the Puddle family.

Cook from scratch. Eg make my own tortillas - a fraction of the cost! Make my own chicken stock after roasting a chicken; make my own rye sourdough bread (badly at the moment - just learning). And exercise - I don't bother with the gym; just do my own programme at home and seek incidental exercise opportunities.

Yeah I can see how vinegar would work, I'll do that next time. Thanks! Also at Christmas I do a festive version. Red cabbage, red wine, orange juice and Christmassy spices like cinnamon and nutmeg

I agree with this

Same here - when I'm stressed I can't eat. Last time I got very stressed I was barely eating anything for a few weeks (whereas normally I'm tempted to eat anything that isn't screwed down). Luckily that doesn't happen very often - maybe once every few years.

Ripsticks! So that's what those things are called - I always wondered. That looks like great fun too! There's a whole range of most excellent wheeled vehicles out there. I want to win Lotto so I can buy one of each of them, and buy Jimmie a kickbike too! :-)

Hey, congrats on your success so far! I like the ideas so far. I keep supplies in our work fridge and cupboard to knock together quick meals. You can buy packets of pre-cooked rice which can be heated through in the microwave; some of that with eg tinned tuna and maybe a salad or avocado or something is a good idea. Even…

Thanks for the advice! Your one looks great. I bought a scooter in the weekend, but they didn't have one in store - I'm picking it up on Thursday. Here's my one: http://www.actionwheels.co.nz/zoom-scooters/roadmaster.html It might be all I need really for everyday stuff, but I thought for longer distances a kickbike would…

My tip would be log, and face facts! This helped me educate myself about the calories and nutritional value of what I was eating. Oh and if you find it hard to get motivated to do exercise, then find activities you enjoy which involve incidental exercise, but where exercise isn't the only reason for doing (that's…

Funny! I love children, but I don't think I could eat a whole one

Totally agree with the ideas of dried beans and rice! It's what some people survive on, eg in South America; together they are a near-perfect food source. Avoid processed stuff, it might look cheaper but it isn't when you consider the total nutritional value. Mussels are often on special where I live, at $3 or so a kilo,…

Hello! Don't worry too much, it does sound that you're doing the right things. If you're not eating 1200 cals a day and find this distresses you then maybe find ways to get there, if you're doing exercise your body does need the food. Congrats on your efforts, if you are finding your muscles developing then you're doing…

I stopped smoking 10 years ago using Allan Carr's book Easyway to Stop Smoking. No side effects, no pills, no need for willpower, it was easy and enjoyable. Worth a try! See more here: http://www.theeasywaytostopsmoking.com/

Braised cabbage is nice. Slice up an onion and chop up some bacon, saute those in a little olive oil (in a coverable saucepan big enough to hold the cabbage) til the onion is clear and the bacon cooked. Slice the cabbage - maybe around a quarter of a cabbage would probably feed 4-ish depending on the size) finely and add…

Hi there sounds like you have a nice goal to shoot for! You might still be growing so I would take that into account. I would try not to have too many days where you are depriving your body of what it needs, so under 1200 calories is probably too little. Best of luck!

Love my fitbit, had it nearly a year. It gives you lots of data. I track my food on MFP and my exercise on Fitbit, and it all syncs very beautifully. I have recently started wearing mine every day again, after not using it for a while. It also monitors sleep.
