You really can get a lot of strength training done if you have a set of dumbbells. You can work most muscle groups and have a greater range of motion than the machines in the gym. Push-ups, crunches, and many other exercises can be done even if you don't have weights.

Wow...I love baked and glazed fat...my favorite...lol...never pass it up!

That is awesome! Congratulations on both the engagement and the weight loss. You can put wind a bit of yarn around part of the ring to keep it on while you are losing more weight if you are afraid of losing the ring.

Great thread! I am an addict too! I love scanning bar codes on my phone to enter my good in a snap! The best thing about having friends here is getting fresh ideas everyday. Feel free to add me!

I have a great set of dumbells in my bedroom. They are very versatile, and you can do many exercises that are done on machines in the gym. If you don't know which exercises to do with them, you are a quick Google search away. When my kids were smaller, they would use little one pound weights and exercise with Mommy!

I think that everyone who is passing judgement on this documentary without actually viewing it should really check it out. I really enjoyed the film, even though I would probably never be interested in trying this diet. Remember, the two men who gained their lives back in this film were just as the title said. They were…

Seems like a major goal to me! Nice job!

Do you like almonds or other nuts? They are a great way to get some healthy calories even when you aren't very hungry. I usually have raw, unsalted almonds for a snack at least once a day.

If you are frustrated and worried that your surgery and new way of eating are not working, it might be worth a follow up consultation with a health care professional. It seems to me that a 20 lb weight loss followed by a period of body change but no weight loss may not be a bad thing. Even with surgery, the weight takes…

I think it is a personal decision whether to stay at 1200 calories or not. For me, I was eating 1200 calories for about a month, and saw steady weight loss for the most part. I decided to up my calories when I started to feel tired. I changed my weight loss goals from 2 lbs per week to .5 lbs per week. After a week of…

Maybe you can invite them to do something active without making it sound like you are trying to get them to lose weight. Invite them mall walking and say you do it so you can window shop before the stores open without feeling any sales pressure. Or invite them over for a healthy meal that is really delicious (or both the…

That's too funny...I heard running is like a disease for some people. Maybe in six months you will be thinking about your first marathon! Congratulations on conquering the hills!

I think it sounds like you two have grown apart. Your interests have changed, and while it's admirable that you are so interested in fitness, maybe your wife is wishing for the old days when you two sat home and enjoyed television together. Perhaps you were still doing that on Sunday nights, and now she feels she is losing…

lol...Congrats on your new "overweight" status!

I enjoyed this documentary very much. The two things that stuck in my mind were the farmer who was fighting (and lost to) Monsanto, and the chicken farmer who wanted to do better for her chickens but Purdue wouldn't let her. I do try to buy locally sourced and organic food when availability and budget allows. We have…

I just looked up What I Would Need to Do For A Klondike Bar...looks like over an hour of my usual cardiovascular workout! It doesn't seem fair that we can wreck our diet in so little time!

Welcome to MFP. You have taken on quite the challenge...i would like to lose a total of 70 lbs too! You certainly have a lot of people here willing to support you. Feel free to add me as well!

Wow..i feel so bad that so many people have had terrible experiences at the checkout. I love my neighborhood grocery store..it's a Giant Eagle. A few weeks ago I went through the express checkout line with a bunch of veggies and some portobello mushroom caps. The cashier correctly guessed that i was going to make mushroom…

My daughter gave me a set of small cups for my birthday and told me they were great for drinking water. She was right! It takes me about 10 seconds to drink one of these, and I just space the cups out throughout the day. Maybe I was thinking before that my regular kitchen glasses were one cup, and they are more like two. I…

Congratulations...you are beautiful on the inside as well as the outside!

I work in a tasty burger joint, but I don't know if I could handle it. I guess you would get used to it like I got used to making burgers without eating them?

Welcome! It sounds like you have a realistic plan to be healthy for life! Tracking what you eat takes a little bit of time in the beginning, but it really is worth it!
