"Constant and have minimums is really self explanatory. You are assuming those people are neglecting protein. Pretty much every argument you are making is with people having a poor protein intake. That's a huge assumption." @MrM27 perhaps they're self explanatory terms to someone who's slept, but i haven't (for a long…

i wouldn't know about that and i'm too tired to look into it so i'll take your word. i don't understand what that has to do with me, though, as i'm neither bulking or cutting
-
this board is called "General Diet and Weight Loss Help". GENERAL DIET AND weight loss help, not just weight loss help. my question was a general one, and it wasn't about exercise or maintaining my weight. it was asking if there are any other thin girls who have a high body fat percentage relative to their weight. i can't…
-
and i don't know why you told me about your bone density. i think you're misreading something here
-
can you show me where i said that? i have not said that. i don't have any calorie limits, low or otherwise. i'm underweight and looking to maintain or gain.
-
sorry, are you addressing me or someone else on the thread? confused. if you are, then i don't know whether i meet my protein requirements, i don't think i've commented on my protein consumption here? aside to say that for someone who wants to build muscle, i could probably use more. also i eat a lot more than 1200 haha…
-
yeah that might be worth looking into, i've got an appointment in a fortnight actually so it couldn't hurt to mention it. i don't know if they do BF estimates for free though, but again, couldn't hurt to ask. i do drink a fair bit of milk, but it's semi-skimmed and probably not enough to offset my other dietary shortcomings
-
ah thanks for commenting, every time someone tells me they are (or were) in a similar situation i feel a bit less of a freak (and a lot more sane). thankfully i don't spend too much time thinking about it, but it couldn't do much harm for me to try and build some muscle mass and see if that helps. you're right though,…
-
yeah, i think i'm in the same boat as you were! trying to nip it in the bud now. i'll have to get a proper measurement at some point because i think it'd be interesting to know. people can't seem to grasp the idea that while 24% is healthy for a woman, the significance of the number is relative to the individuals weight -…
-
what do you mean by constant and have minimums? not being pedantic, just genuinely can't wrap my head around the wording excess is obviously not an objective measurement, but i'd probably put it at anything that's detrimental to the percentage of protein needed to maintain muscle mass, especially for reparative purposes…
-
i agree that carb consumption is necessary for gaining muscle mass, what with it being the body's preferred source of energy and the like - without it i imagine the body would dip into muscle stores after it exhausted the fat. that being said, the innuit diet is almost exclusively protein and fat, if i'm not mistaken, and…
-
no i haven't, i'm not sure what one is actually. i think i have a pretty small frame / bone structure, if that has anything to do with it, i have very small wrists and ankles
-
maybe, but i'm not sure there's much correlation between BMR and BF%, besides the fact that a lower BMR might lead to a higher body weight, and past a certain BMI there is a spike in correlation between BMR and BF% why can't i absorb information without criticising it? isn't that how you learn? if you find a hole in an…
-
yeah, application and first hand experience is invaluable. i just don't like the idea that anything should be "untouchable" in terms of criticism - i like to think anything and everything can be analysed and criticised, though that's not to say the critic can't be wrong
-
@MrM27 if you read the thread, i was refuting something someone else said using studies that i'd researched. big difference between that and offering non-existant expertise and assuming i know everything. your comment is ridiculous. i suppose you make no comment on what politicians do, because you're not entitled to an…
-
i don't, but like most things people say, it's an educated guess (or as i like to call, a statement). how do you know with 100% certainty that the ground isn't going to fall from under your feet the next time you step onto the pavement? you don't - you go just kind of use your brain and assess the likelihood given your…
-
every opinion is subject to perception and, as such, is subjective. that's a useless statement, it's like pointing out that the sky is blue. as for your comment RE my weight, yes I am underweight, but i'm healthy, I eat 3 or 4 decent meals a day, and my weight is natural. not all underweight people are unhealthy. much…
-
who said anything about energy as an umbrella term? i'm talking about muscle protein synthesis, which does actually prefer protein to any other macro. and i wouldn't know, i can't say i know much about the efficiency of different types of strength training. but i'd agree that exercise is more important than protein…
-
yeah, it's to do with muscle protein synthesis (the process that maintains your muscle mass). when you're not eating enough protein, the process is much less efficient and results in muscle wasting. http://www.livestrong.com/article/462651-will-you-lose-muscle-if-you-dont-eat-enough-protein-lift-weights/…
-
If you are not eating enough protein your body will dip into your muscles as a protein store. Muscle waste can occur in the absence of a caloric deficit. What do you suppose will replace it if you're not eating any protein but eating enough in terms of calories, carbs and fat to maintain your weight? I said nothing about…
-
I wasn't talking about bulking. I wasn't saying that bodybuilders cut carbs during cutting because carbs are to the detriment of their muscle mass (I said that about non-builders who aren't cutting, in a completely post, and I was talking about people who are maintaining their weight, not working at a surplus or deficit).…
-
At no point did I say that you can possibly maintain your weight when working at a caloric surplus. You can gain fat without gaining weight, that is if you are eating a maintenance rate of calories but your macros aren't such that you can sustain your muscle mass. If you're not maintaining your muscle mass but you are…
-
that's not universally true. what are your muscles going to replenish themselves with if you're neglecting your protein intake because you're eating too many carbs? in the situation you're proposing, you're working with a limited number of calories (maintenance), so if you're eating too many carbs then it's at the expense…
-
Thanks man, trying maintenance first then I'll see if I can introduce some more protein-heavy calories, it'll probably be easier to go that way and build some muscle mass first just as a base.
-
I suppose I don't, it's just an observation based on what they look like but all anyone in this thread has to go on is my word. I don't have any reason to lie, and I don't think my perceptions are distorted; I have no preoccupations food or weight, this thread was just me trying to find people of a similar body type. I…
-
Thank you! And good luck :-)
-
i have a lot of body fat relative to my weight. there's a big difference between volume of fat and percentage of fat. i don't have enough fat to pose a risk to my health, i just have a lot of fat relative to my weight, that's what a BF% is. i don't think either are a risk to my health, i think losing even more weight would…
-
yeah, it will. if you're not eating the right amount of protein to sustain your muscle mass then you'll lose it. and if you're only eating within your maintenance and you're eating too many carbs, then you can't possibly get enough protein. that, and many other factors. isn't this like a universally accepted given? an…
-
I know, I said from the start this wasn't about me asking how to lower my BF%. And I have started strength training and eating better, it's rough cause I'm really weak atm haha. I just started it to find other people who are thin but have high BF% so i could find some people to work alongside if that makes sense
-
BMI is one of the best measures we have of health with regards to one's weight. it's obviously not applicable to everyone and it's certainly not ideal, but it's hardly insignificant. underweight is underweight, and while I don't consider myself unhealthy, and agree with you insofar as that BMI should not be a sole…
