The problem is that everyone's body responds differently to different stimulus. I work with a guy who is 6'00" and 180lbs, in great shape, but he can eat anything he wants and doesn't gain weight (now granted, he does put the work into the gym). I also work with a guy who puts work into the gym, but has to run a strict…

*sigh* Where do the calories come from? Carbs....
-
Alcohol is carbs. More alcohol means more carbs. More carbs mean more size. Seriously, though, don't drink enough to have a hangover and you should be good.

Then there's your answer.

Self acceptance is one thing, but having delusions that you're fine the way you are is another. I also think its fine to judge people, but unless its someone close to you, you should be polite. Lets take this lady as an example: Do you think she has a thyroid issue that's making her obese? Or do you think its her eating…

Several years ago, I cut from 25% bf to about sub 15% bf and lost 10-15lbs off my main lifts. Now that was in 2 months, so maybe I cut too quickly and lost strength.

Short answer is yes. You don't need to eat back every single calorie, especially since calorie counts may be off, but get close. You should aim to be close to your expected calorie goal by the end of the week.
-
It depends on your goals. Almost every home workout works if you put your maximum effort into it. If you half-*kitten* the greatest program, you'll look the same.
-
Well shoot, I did something wrong last time lol.

If you can't afford another gym, then do what you need to. However, make sure you ignore the pizza and bagel days, and pass up the free candy at the front desk. Find a smaller, independent gym. I bet you'll find more encouragement there, then PF.

You'll get people that say a good diet doesn't need supplements, but not everyone has a perfect diet. Fish oil (if you don't eat fish), multi-vitamin, and calcium.

Are you squatting in tennis shoes? If so, take them off and squat barefoot (or get flat soled shoes like Chucks or some Vibrams...but please, not the toe shoes). That might help out a little. If you can hit parallel with 45lbs, do some pause squats to stretch out (pause for 3 seconds at the bottom, then explode up).

I didn't see this response, but don't worry about the scale, worry about how your clothes fit.

"If I were to put these in order as to how I can impact you overnight, the order would be like this: 1) Loaded carries—I can change your life in three weeks…2) Squat; 3) Hinge; 4) Pull; 5) Push." - Dan John One of the best strength guys out there.

You won't keep your strength in a cut, unless you're extremely obese (which you're obviously not), or if you're using some pharmaceuticals. Granted I'm not in the shape I used to be in, but last time I did a cut, I kept my workout the same and added extra low impact cardio (20-30 minutes on treadmill or stepper) with a…

My Garmin syncs to MFP and is probably as close to being as accurate as one can get without spending a TON of money. But you have to be wary of which HRM you purchase, not all of them are equal. Wrist HRM aren't as accurate as chest straps, but its close. Also, don't log stuff like cleaning or doing laundry, that just…

Another vote for Garmin. I bought a Vivosmart HR and couldn't be happier. I wanted to wait for the Vivoactive HR, but I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much on a HR monitor right off the bat. I will say the Vivosmart over estimates steps, but that's just due to arm movement throughout the day.

I know this is personal, but are you a tighty whitey or boxer guy? You might have to go loose fitting boxers when you're not exercising to let the boys breath.

I've noticed that with personal trainers, they encourage their clients to go lighter with little rest in between sets, which makes it cardio. On top of that, most will recommend another 20+ minutes of additional cardio (treadmill, elliptical, stair master, etc.) Since, most of their clientele are probably new to fitness,…

That only states that lighter weights to near failure or heavy weights to near failure has no difference in protein synthesis, not actual muscle building or strength increases. Also, the article is published in Runners World, which focuses more on the endurance athlete, not the strength athlete. It says they're still…

You show me a fitness study, I'll show you a contradicting one. For your body, its trial and error. Once you find what works for your body, stick with it until it stops working. What works for me, may not work for you, but there's only one way to find out. "Bro-Science" is still based off of something and if it…

Are the Crossfit Cultists making fun of you for doing a regular pull-up or something?
-
If he's a wuss, tell him to grow a pair and lift. :P
-
It happens, just don't make it a regular occurrence, or you'll end up really puking one day lol. Your body will eventually get used to you pushing it and you won't feel that way as much as you once did.
-
You can do dumbbell squats and still be effective. You won't be winning any power lifting competitions doing those, but it'll work. Tips? Start slow and once you're confident in your form, go heavy or go home.
-
The main one in my area is called "Z-Fit." Basically its Crossfit, but adds some structure and no stupid WODs...like power cleans for high reps and heavy weights right after a workout doing a bunch of squats. Many other independent gyms use the same principles...which the owner of Crossfit keeps trying to sue these gyms…
-
The reason people say lifting low weight for high reps is best for fat burning is that your body doesn't need as much time to recover from the light lifting, which means you can lift again sooner, which keeps your heart rate up, which means you're just doing cardio. If you want to maximize your muscle size, do 8-12 reps,…

I understand HealthGal's concerns, which most of hers are mine (which is why I don't do Crossfit). There are too many factors combined that will keep me from doing Crossfit, namely the lack of training by their trainers. Also, their training of their trainers on how to use improper form. I posted an article on the bottom…

Jujitsu is practically useless in a street fight, unless its one on one (which it usually never is). I won't rehash my previous posts (page 2), but 99% of martial arts out there is useless in a street fight capacity. Niner actually brought up a good point, most martial arts don't practice getting punched in the…

Kenny Wayne Shepherd - 2001 (or 2000, can't remember) Moby - 1998 (yes, the techno guy...man is one of the performers I've ever seen, he can work the stage) Linkin Park - 1999 (pre-Hybrid Theory release...saw them twice after that and they lost an edge) AFI & Distillers - 2000 (same show, both excellent!) Local H - 1996…
