You can't lengthen muscles. Their size is predetermined by genetics.

Do you know why your chiropractor is telling you to lift lighter? If you lift heavy, your muscles will get strong, which means less knee and back pain, which means fewer trips to him.

My friend (and boss) told me we're running a 5k at the end of April...I gotta get myself on the treadmill lol.

Stronglifts 5x5 is the best beginner program I've seen so far.
-
Both...but with a focus on resistance training.

No its not completely wrong if you're seeing results. You're giving yourself a day off in between full body workouts, so you're giving yourself time to recover. To OP, remember, sometimes less is more. You don't have to go into the gym and do 25 sets a workout, if you do compound exercises (bench press, squats, deadlifts,…

Its a shame what happened to his son...freak accident. Bruce Lee was a beast. Mind you this workout was in addition to his martial arts training.

YOU WILL NOT GAIN A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MASS ON A CALORIE DEFICIT DIET! Now that that's out of the way, the only way to make your arms smaller is to reduce overall body fat %. What probably happened is you developed some muscle under the fat, which made your arms look bigger. Remember, you can't spot reduce fat so the…

Do not adjust a program unless you are a fairly experienced lifter and know how to adjust it to your body. If you are beginning fresh, I recommend Stronglifts 5x5 as it has you start off with the bar only with compound exercises. Just like Addison said, the first program posted is absolutely horrible. You will not see the…

Don't tell her she'll look like She-Hulk...there are actually people on here who believe that (you'll need steroids, estrogen blockers, and years of training to look like She-Hulk). Aim for 1g of protein for each pound of lean muscle mass (I usually shoot for about 150g for me). That should help rebuild your muscle tissue.
-
It depends on your goal. If you want to build muscle (remember, you won't get buff like bodybuilding women...they use roids), you need to eat an excess in calories. However, if you still want to lose some weight, I'd up your calories to "maintain" and see how that works for you. Those extra calories should be lean protein.

I work out alone, typically alone in the gym since I work out at midnight or 1:00am, so I have to be careful with benching. However, I can't think of any other exercise where a spotter is a must for going heavy. Just learn when to stop and not go for that one extra rep. Worse case scenario, learn how to roll the barbell…

They're probably checking to see if you pick up the pink 2lb dumb bells or you're serious and go with something heavier.
-
If I were you I'd go with Stronglifts 5x5, mainly because it has you start with the bar only, then you add weight weekly. By the time the weights get "heavy" (minus bench, which is probably the weakest lift for women), you should have form down where you can safely do the exercise without getting hurt. It looks like you…

Free weights are superior to machines, but don't discount machines all together. With free weights you are able to hit a wider range of motion, instead of a fixed range with machines. However, machines are safer and allow you to push yourself more without fear of getting injured. That being said, I use free weights 99% of…

Walk. Also start doing bodyweight squats to strengthen the muscles around the knee. A popular myth is that squats cause knee problems, but in all actuality it may alleviate the pain.

Wrong. If she does that, she'll end up possibly making her stomach larger if she doesn't incorporate a good diet and cardio. Abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym.

I hate PF as much as the next serious lifter, but I have come to the realization that if PF wasn't around, those members would be in my gym complaining about how "intimidated" they are.
-
Machines aren't useless, especially for a beginner. Free weights are superior, but you are doing something good with machines. The only thing you shouldn't do on a machine is squats on a smith machine, you can really get hurt.
-
Stronglifts is more for beginners as it has you start with the bar only and you progress from there. It also has a very easy progression, unlike Madcow's.
-
I'm sure some have had it surgically enhanced as well...you can do anything these days.
-
Deadlifts are banned lifts for the gym, because its a "lunk" lift. Squats are allowed, but only on the Smith Machine or with dumb bells.
-
Agreed. I would use them if they were legal...notice I said use, not abuse like bodybuilders, I don't want the bodybuilder pregnant belly.
-
If they're rolling into your bench while you're working out, I'd chew his *kitten* out for being unsafe. Its one thing to be obnoxious, its another to be dangerous.

House of Blues in Orlando? I thought I saw their name on the billboard when I was down there last week. Anyways, I think it would depend on how hard you work....and how much you're getting back up after getting knocked down. Ah memories....worse moshpit I've been in was probably The Casulties when they played at warped…

They look the other way, mainly because they see it as an advantage for us. We don't fight fair, and we're trained to do whatever it takes to go home at night. Now if you get caught, that's different, you'll be fired and sent to jail quicker than the average user. Since its illegal, its frowned upon, but understandable why…

You don't spot deadlifts, overhead presses, snatches, or cleans, because you can just drop the weight if you to past failure....and spotting someone squatting correctly is quite intrusive and the person better buy you dinner first.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne5FGRvP5Is Forward to 4:41 where Dave Castro, one of the main employees of Crossfit, does a horrendous 20 second attempt at a deadlift that is way too heavy....then is congratulated by Dave Lipson, another main employee of Crossfit, for his effort. Not once did the two Crossfit "trainers"…

Start your kids in sports, preferably something that keeps them running (ie. soccer or basketball). Don't start weight training until they're young teens...and even then, do very little. They can do bodyweight exercises now safely and yoga is always an option.

FYI, arching your back on bench isn't poor form. That being said, just say something to him about leaving his weights out, if he gives you crap talk to management. Then express to the management that the guy has a hard on while working out and put emphasis on the fact that the place is supposed to be family friendly. If…
