Doesn't the glycemic index of a food also matter? A slice of white bread isn't sugary, but it has a high glycemic index, which raises your blood sugar and causes a high insulin demand. I've been avoiding traditional "sweets" for awhile, but lately I've become aware of my high carb intake, which also translates into spikes…

How do you feel about seltzer water? Comes in several different "flavors" but it's not sweetened with anything and it's zero calories.

The only decent low-sodium restaurant meal I've ever been able to find is at one of our local Chinese/Japanese places. They have a steamed chicken and broccoli dish that is not seasoned in any way.
