  • Arm Circles Help Your Shoulders Relax The muscles in the upper back often become tense while running, especially when running long distances. You can reduce this tension by adding arm circles to your stretching routine. •Stand with your arms pointing straight out to either side. •Use both arms simultaneously and make 10…
  • Beware, there can be consequences to taking supplements. I used to take MET-REX and other TwinLab whey protein supplements religously. They did work, I put on a lot of muscle while I took them. The downside is that by overwhelming my system with all the concentrated whey product I am now allergic to ALL grain products. I…
  • Every time I try it I get really bad achilles tendonitis. It is definately not for everyone. It is also tough to run barefoot in New England in the winter so why even bother.
  • On days that I'm scheduled to run distances greater than 10 miles I usually get up 2 hours ahead of time and eat a wheat toast peanut butter and jelly sandwich with a bannana in it. When I am running a marathon and I'm on the road staying at a hotel room I have power bars and greek yogurt. I find the eating the day before…
  • I live in a rural area in which there are very few street lights but I still run quite frequently in the dark. Early morning is best. I run with a flouresent orange safety vest on and a headlamp. You can purchase very small headlamps that can be worn on your head at walmart . I run facing traffic and usually when I see a…
  • I have run 4 marathons in the past 2 years and I can tell you I have had the same problem. Its because the more miles you run the more stress you put on your system and the greater your appetite becomes. Its very easy to think that you will burn it off running, but you still need to pay really close attention to how many…
  • Almost forgot, here is a handy run/walk pace calculator that is awesome; http://www.users.kih.net/~mewilliams/calc/
  • I cant eat any breads, cereals or wheat and oat products because of allergies so here is what I like to eat every morning. In large skillet melt 1 tbp of promise then brown 1.5 cups of shredded Simply potato's with some diced onions and garlic salt. Once browned up I pour in one cup of Egg Beaters and mix thourougly. I…
  • Good job everyone. I did an easy 3 miles this morning and did a 750 meter swim this evening. Going to run 7 miles in morning.
  • Hi - Did a nice easy 7 miles today. Got to fuel up for tomorrow, will be running 15 miles in the morning. Get to eat today, yipee.
  • I would recomend that you find a runners shoe store that has a knowledgeable staff and have them watch you run. They can put you into the shoe that is correct for the way that you run. Its very important that you have the right shoe to avoid injuries. I did a nice easy 7 miles tonight.
  • Hello all, Did an easy 3 miles this morning. This is week 8 for me of an 18 week Hal Higdon Intermediate marathon schedule. I do 35 miles this week, so I get to eat lots of extra calories later in week.
  • Ran a nice easy 11 miles at 10:11/mile. Pretty nice out this afternoon with temps around 50 and sunny. I got to run in shorts again, something tells me that we are heading back to the deep freeze again soon so I better enjoy the spring temps while I can!! No running tomorrow, weight training day. Cheers.
  • really nice out this morning here in NH, a balmy 42 and sunny. I actually ran my 5 miles in shorts!! Its supposed to make it up to 60 tomorrow.
  • As someone else pointed out using a 5K equivelent time is a good way to figure out what your capable of running a marathon in. This site is excellent at breaking down all the different paces you should run; http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/Running%20University/Article%201/mcmillanrunningcalculator.htm Use the McMillan's…
  • Nice easy 3 mile recovery run this morning.
  • I spend about 160 per week for 3 people, 1 big dog and a cat :grumble: definately have to try and cut down but buying fresh vegatables and organic meat is expensive.
  • Got my 7 miles in this morning. Kinda tired after running 13 miles yesterday. I tried to eat enough calories yesterday but I still fell short of replacing all the calories I burned yesterday by about 600 calories I could tell in todays run because my legs felt dead. I still managed 10:35/mile. Tomorrow is tough, no running…
  • Awesome job! Which marathon are you running in again?
  • I run 5 days a week so I will end up banking around 500 of todays calories for my shorter days. It still enables me to go out to eat tonight at a restaurant and have a nice meal of Cedar Plank Salmon, rice and asparagus.
  • You look familiar, did you go to Malden High School?
  • Yes you are supposed to eat the extra calories. When you first sign up for MFP and fill out your goals you enter a base weight, age, life style and goal weight. MFP then calculates how many calories it takes to loose the wieght per week you want to loose. That assumption is based upon normal activity. If you excersise that…
  • I dont use a HRM, the 2400 calories is what the MFP excersise calculator comes up with. I think its fairly accurate, as I have found other calculators and come up with the same figure based on my weight and speed run. It comes out to around 180 cals a mile. I can believe that because it takes a lot of energy to propel my…
  • cute pic, where are you from?
  • I did 13 miles this sunny, windy morning here in southern NH. I felt pretty good, cruising along at 10:25/mile. Now the fun part, getting to eat the EXTRA 2400 calories that I just burned!!:drinker:
  • Since I love to eat I like the fact that today I ran 13 miles this morning which means that I have to figure out how to eat an extra 2400 calories!!! Thats more than my normal daily total of 2100 I need to eat to loose a pound a week. So I think I will just keep running longer and longer so I can enjoy…

  • I can really identify, I did awesome last year up till November and then I gave myself permission to eat thinking this time it will be different, this time I will be able to control my eating. Boy was I wrong again, once I started I couldnt stop. I'm addicted to food and when I eat foods that have lots of simple sugars…
