And can I just check that we are aiming for NET calories? So if my TDEE states say, 2019 per day this is NET? Surely not!!

I have raised my calories to 1500 since 16 April from a four year total of 800-1200 net per day. I'm not brave enough yet to go higher, as I'm just not sure my metabolism is fast enough yet to cope with more calories. So far, I gained a few pounds at the beginning, but for the past 3 weeks, I've been losing more or less a…

Try eating 6 almonds with an apple - it really makes a difference in how full you feel afterwards Avocado with your salads Drizzle olive oil and lemon onto your salads Eggs keep you feeling fuller for longer and can get those numbers up

Really useful! Thanks!

The easiest way of checking how many calories your body actually gets on a day when you exercise, just take a look at your NET calories. Always make sure that your NET amount equals your basic allowance. Think about it...let's say your basic daily allowance is 1200 and you have eaten this amount. You then burn 500 calories…

I increased from 1200 to 1400 and then to 1500. I initially lost 1.5 pounds and then gained 1 back. I am waiting to see what happens tomorrow, but even if I've still gained or stayed the same I'm sticking with this for at least 3 months before doing anything, I've been at 800-1100 for 4 years (and lost nearly 5 stone and 5…

I've been training so far this year with three marathons planned for 2012. One under the belt (Cliff path cross country) and number two taking place in 2 weeks time (power walk during the night) with the third planned in September. So for me, comfort distances have increased with the training. I'm now quite comfortable…

1800 and 2100 net? As in, are you also eating back all your exercise calories?
-
It could be the sudden lowering of fat, which can cause your bowels to come to a complete halt. Increase your water as much as you can and if no luck in 2 days, try Pysillium husks in water before going to bed. It gently reminds your bowels what they need to be doing. Avoid any constipation remedies, as these will purge…

I was eating 1000-1200 for 4 years. A year ago, my weight loss slowed down to a halt. I was essentially losing and gaining back the same few pounds. With much help from members on this board, I raised my calories to 1400 NET two weeks ago. It was scary, but I made a promise to myself that whatever the scales said I would…

I am at the start of my second week having increased my calories from 1290 to 1400. My scales are still hesitant but I will try and continue as so many people have had such great results. I exercise 5 times a week, using my HRM and I always weigh everything and log every morsal that touches my lips. This HAS to…

So just to absolutely clarify...if I'm increasing my cals from 1290 to 1400 - I should be eating all my exercise calories back to achieve 1400 NET. This is correct yes? My BMR is 1429 and my TDEE is 2,386. I exercise 5 times a week. I'm 5'6" and age 53 Would appreciate someone clarifying this for me. Thanks.

I too will be watching with bated breath to see if it works for me. I tried it last month, but was hideously under calories each and every week. So this week I'm determined to be at or a little above 1400 per day. It's scary stuff as I "feel" fat eating 1400 - I have been averaging 1100 per day for 4 years and my…

Hiya. I'm from Dorset. Feel free to friend me :-)

I upped mine (from 1290 to 1400) a month ago, but looking back at the past 30 days, I have have been averaging 1000-1200. So I started afresh 2 days ago. For me, this is very scary.

I'm having problems with losing anything and I believe this is due to being 1800-2000 cals under each week. But using the above formula suggests I should be eating over 2,200 calories per day....I know I would gain weight doing this. My BMR is 1429 and I exercise 5 times a week. My weight is still refusing to budge.
-
Very pleased for you and relieved for me...this is my second week of upping my calories from 1290 to 1400 ... so far nothing, but I'm not giving up just yet. I shall be giving this experiment a full four weeks. Trouble is, if the scales still refuse to budge, do I up the calories further or drop back down to 1290?????

Keep an eye on your NET figure on your food diary page. You should try and aim to get this to 1200 by the end of each day after exercise. That's the easiest way to make sure you eat back your exercise calories - think of it as fuelling a fire.

Totally agree.

Love the "Baptist Preacher" bit  My problem is that whenever I splurge and have a "spike" day (without actually starting off to have one, but allowing food or preferences to "win"), my digestion hits back and I end up in the loo for several hours... How anyone ever manages a full on "spike" day to the levels that…

Up until Jan 2012, I had been using another weightloss website and had been severely under-eating for four years, averaging about 1100 - 1150 calories per day INCLUDING exercise. I always felt full and never seemed to feel tired or lethargic. Whilst this helped me to drop from size 22 (UK size) to size 12 (and about 4.5…

Great information. Thanks for posting.

I could so have written that. Am so with you

Such a sensible, heartfelt post. I've been under eating for nearly four years using another weightloss website and didn't fully understand the damage I was doing to myself until I realised that I was becoming "skinny fat". Since moving over to MFP in January, I can now see my Net figure and no matter how much exercise I…

This is just confusing me more. I have about 10 pounds left to lose. My BMR on here says1413. I'm on 1100 basic calories for a 1 pound loss per week. I've never been able to achieve a regular weight loss (it's taken me 4 years to lose 5 stone) and I'm 53 years old. I exercise 5-6 times a week (running, brisk walking and…

I wish my loss was consistent. When I had more to lose, I tended to drop an average of 1-2 pounds per week, but this was very eratic. I also found that I would lose, then gain, then maintain, then gain and then lose again. I could never achieve a "straight graph" despite the fact that I rarely go over my daily allowance…
