  • Sounds like plantar faciitis - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0004438/ The good part is that it's nearly always curable without surgery; the bad part is that no one knows how long it will take you to heal. I get it every once in a while; for me, the cure is to stay off my foot and/or wear Birkenstock sandals…
  • Mine slip around on my face too much, so when I do yoga or any exercise I take them off. If I need to see the instructor, I'd go to the front row - ask to be there if there's no space, or just go early. But I don't do yoga regularly. You might try with them on and with them off, and see what's most comfortable for you.
  • I can't say for sure for you - but for me, I have a pouchy belly if I don't work on it directly. I used to do a lot of crunches and situps - which worked well, when I would do them, but they were such a pain I seldom did them for long. So I'd get belly-dimples (the sides of my pouchy belly would start to dent in and show…
  • 3:40 pm, I've eaten 2000 and burned 1100. I've got 650 still to go - nice light dinner, much later (I am so stuffed!). AIDSWalk is a lot of calories in and out. Fun day, too.
  • Look at Check-in from your home page - you can add any measurement you want. If you track sleep minutes (track time to bed and time awake, then calculate the minutes and enter that) you'll get a nice graph. Or if you have the money to spare, get a Fitbit. I use it (and so does the OP) - it's an excellent pedometer, that…
  • There's another app - for Android, I don't know if it's on iOS - called Gentle Alarm. It's got two tricks. One I don't use is the "solve a puzzle to shut off the alarm" one - though it doesn't have the neat barcode idea, just (I think) math puzzles. But the trick I do use is that it sets off a very quiet alarm half an hour…
  • Miyazaki movies - Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, etc. Robin Hood - the Errol Flynn version, and the Disney one - there are lots more, but either I haven't seen them or they're hard to find. Or they're really bad. I second Watership Down - the 1978/2008/2010 version (the…
  • to coconutbuNZ: I figure, if I'm really not hungry - I don't eat. On the other hand, some days I've eaten my entire allotment (exercise calories and all) and I'm starving - so I eat. I pay attention to the goals each day, but the weekly Net Calories chart is even more useful (in Reports>Nutrition on the web, in Weekly in…
  • A great replacement for Slimfast and the like - at least for filling you up without sugar and with some good nutrient - is what I call banana milk. It's not quite as thick as a smoothie, so easier to drink. Bananas freeze very well - I just put them in the freezer in their skins (when they start getting too brown for me),…
  • I've been doing shovelglove on and off (mostly off, unfortunately) for about six months now. It really is good. I do it first thing after I get up - if I'm not running out the door - and I feel more energetic and stronger all day. But when I'm sick or too busy, it slips. The nice thing is that I can get right back into it…
