Ok, so this might not have been the brightest idea I've had in a while but after only walking since I became pregnant (last December) yesterday (about 3 months post-partum) I decided to go on a 5 mile hike. Now, the arch of my right foot is killing me when I put weight on it It feels sharp and a little sore, and only hurts with weight. I tried rolling it on a foam roller and that seemed to help a bit. I have an appointment for next week if it isn't better by then, but I was hoping for some suggestions as to what it could be in the meantime.
A bit of medical history: I have extremely loose joints/ligaments and have dislocated my knee (lots of times), hip, and have torn ligaments in my knee and ankle. Maybe somehow related to my loose ligaments?
Edit: I also was carrying my almost 14lb 3 month old in the baby bjorn, so I had added weight while hiking.

I had to get super feet arch support inserts because My tendons in my arch were too strained and were starting to tear. I find that when it's something like that it usually because of bad arch support or the wrong shoes. you also might have pushed it a little too hard too soon after having a baby. but I'm no MD.
sounds like a strain from bad support though.0 -

RICE it and get better soon. Poor thing, you sound even more injury prone than I am.0 -
Yeah, I don't know, these shoes have always worked for me in the past...! I don't think it was pushing myself too much after the baby, but maybe pushing myself too much from just not doing much to working out again. I don't believe it was lack of support though, I have never needed arch support! Hopefully I will figure it out..0

same here, one day after a long walk they just started hurting and just got worse with time. But I'll bet you just have a mild strain, you should be good as long as you get it check if it gets worse. and you're already planning that
mine happened after military service too sooooo you never know0 -
Considering you are 3 months post-partum, this could potentially be plantar fasciitis. The reason I am saying this is because of the mechanical stress on your feet from being pregnant. A lot of underlying arch problems are from plantar fasciitis and people don't realize that. Then you jumped into a 5 mile hike afterwards which should be no big deal but it obviously triggered the pain. It could be from other underlying causes as well too but I would have to do a clinical exam and x-ray to determine the actual problem. For right now before you see your primary, I would recommend finding a sole that has proper arch support. In the mean time if feels like that area is tense, I would wrap it to stop it from getting worse. Take an NSAID if necessary to reduce the pain if it is severe0

Sounds like plantar faciitis - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0004438/
The good part is that it's nearly always curable without surgery; the bad part is that no one knows how long it will take you to heal. I get it every once in a while; for me, the cure is to stay off my foot and/or wear Birkenstock sandals (that have the perfect arch support for me) for about a week, and then I'm fine. My dad got it, and then pushed himself to keep walking (he and Mom were on a visit to Italy that included a lot of walking tours); he eventually had to have surgery because bits were healing by growing together when they were supposed to be separate.
As the link says, the doctor can detect it if that's the problem, and the simple cures are basically RICE. Hopefully, you won't need the complicated cures.0 -
this could potentially be plantar fasciitis.
That's what they called what I had, smart man here ^^^^ I forgot what it was called0 -

haha this is what 4 years of med school does to me0 -
Thank you everyone. Thanks to some googling I believe that is exactly what it is. It makes sense after pregnancy that my feet wouldn't be the same. I've taken some ibuprofen and will wrap it. Hopefully it will heal quickly!!0
