  • Excellent post! Thanks for the inspiration. Deep down, I know all this, but I needed a reminder.
  • I love quinoa! I eat half a cup for breakfast with milk and blueberries. :) My worst meal: ratatouille. DISGUSTING!
  • Bump. Thanks for the info.!
  • You look so great! You also look very happy with yourself! YAY! Thanks for the inspiration!!

  • I'm behind, but finally got started. I forgot over the holiday weekend, but finally remembered today. I've only done one minute so far, but it's a start! :) Hopefully, I can get caught up by the weekend. 9/5 1/60
  • In that case, I LOVE LOOKING TERRIBLE!!! .... at least, for now. :)
  • Boo. I was down by 1.8 ...and then came the weekend and shopping/eating out and a potluck yesterday. So, I'm up .3 - hopefully, this Monday weigh-in will get me to stay on track through the weekends!
  • Okay, I joined this a couple of days ago, but didn't see this post about posting stats. So, here goes: I had lost about 33 pounds and gained it all back. UGH!!! Starting weight with this challenge: 192.2 Goal Weight for this challenge: 162.2 See you all Monday at the weigh-in!!

  • Me, too! Weekends are hard. Everyone is home, and everything calms down for a little bit. Relaxing Saturdays .. shopping, eating - so, it is hard to be good on the weekends. A Monday weigh-in will hopefully keep us on track!!
  • There is one on Netflix right now, streaming, called "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" - I think it is very good. A man documents his life before, during, and after doing a juice fast and then travels around the country talking to other people about it. I know someone that just watched it and tried a juice fast for three days -…
  • I'll send you a request. I'm 42, two teenagers and about 50 pounds to lose. Ugh. I hate seeing that number. Alright, let's get after it!
  • We home school and we are constantly on the go. My children have been in martial arts. They go to home school P.E. twice a week, co-op once a week. They are about to start golf lessons. They interact with kids from church at least 3 times a week. They are in 4-H, serving as council members. Home schoolers are NOT isolated.…
  • I find that people graciously accept an honest answer as to why one is eating a certain way. There is no need to be dishonest about it. -- and this seems to be somewhat ironic considering it is a "faith" lunch.
  • Reposting my response to the above from earlier in the thread: First of all, let me say that I absolutely agree that not everyone is cut out for homeschooling. It does take a lot of time and dedication. The bottom line is the parents need to be involved in their child's education, whether it be public, private, or home…
  • Not talking book-banning by the way, just considering what is age-appropriate and best for my family.
  • It sounds like you are a great teacher. I think that is a great way of handling it. I don't know that it was handled in that way in my son's class. The experience I had with my son's class just piqued my curiosity about home schooling and we decided as a family, kids included, that this was the direction we wanted to go.
  • BTW, did you read this part of the speech: "This was happening to me, and if it wasn't for the rare occurrence of an avant-garde tenth grade English teacher, Donna Bryan, who allowed me to open my mind and ask questions before accepting textbook doctrine, I would have been doomed. I am now enlightened, but my mind still…
  • First of all, "an overly involved helicopter parent" seems strange to me. How can a parent be "overly" involved in their child's education? I took my son out of public school because they were reading a book in class that was full of bad language and taking the Lord's name in vain. I tried to work with the teacher, by…
  • ^^This.^^ I have some friends that teach in the public school system and I know they engage their students and don't just sit there reading a textbook. I also have a friend that put her children back in public school for a couple of years and was very pleased with what they were doing. She volunteered all the time, so that…
  • Love this speech .... and an administrator had to agree with it to let it be the valedictorian speech at the graduation ceremony. (Obtained this from blog.swiftkickonline.com) Valedictorian Speaks Out Against Schooling in Graduation Speech Author Note: Over the past four days, this post has received 110K+ hits and over…
  • First of all, let me say that I absolutely agree that not everyone is cut out for homeschooling. It does take a lot of time and dedication. The bottom line is the parents need to be involved in their child's education, whether it be public, private, or home school. As a side note, here is a VERY short list of famous…
  • So gross .... but I don't understand why Subway is on there. I know you can order poorly at Subway, but, for the most part, it's good food. In fact, The Biggest Loser, advertises that all the time.
  • Hi Melissa, I'm a homeschool mom, too. I have a 15 year old and a 12 year old. Please feel free to add me. We can give each other a cyber high-five between lessons. haha!
  • Don't feel defeated. You'll get it - just keep working at it. I didn't think I would ever get up to running 5 minutes. It will come, be patient. -- but, also, don't overdo it. You don't want to push to the point that you injure yourself and can't do the 5K at all.
  • Fantastic! Way to go! BTW, what app is that?
