My son is 8 1/2 and I've had the same goal. Still at my highest post-pregnancy weight. Not one to make resolutions, but this has been a long time coming. using all of the "resolution" energy as a motivator to jump start some serious lifestyle changes! Good luck to you too!

I'm new here, but would like to join if there is still space. I think this is just the kind of motivation I need. I'm doing a short term "move it" challenge to move at least 180 minutes a week. Think this would tie in nicely. Thanks!

Love this idea. Sounds like a great motivator for me. I have gotten lazier and lazier, so this is just what I need. Week #1 Goal: 180 minutes Monday: Shopping, some house cleaning - 20 minutes Tuesday: Walked to a friend's house, some cleaning - 15 minutes Wednesday: Walk son to school?? Thursday: Friday: Saturday: Sunday:…

I love the Skim Plus half & half or milk. Nice thickness, only 15 cals for 2 tbs! And none of the funny artificial stuff in some of the other fat-free half&half's on the market. I think it's Farmland Dairy that puts it out.

I usually don't worry within 5-20 calories, because I know sometimes my portion sizes are off, but from what I've read here, you should really try to eat your minimum calories. a low-fat stick cheese is about 70 calories, or a handful of almonds. Some strawberries or grapes are good too. If I'm having a chocolate craving,…

Whenever we travel anywhere now I try to pack healthy snacks to take with me. If I don't let myself get too hungry, I can avoid overeating. Grab a lunch bag or cooler and an ice pack. Good options: Yogurt, Fiber One bars, almonds, fruit, carrots or celery, a healthy sandwich, or anything else you like to eat. Even if you…

Hi. I would suggest using the "Walking 4.0 mph (very brisk)" record your walking. I found a walking calories calculator on about.com: http://walking.about.com/library/cal/uccalc1.html and then just compared it using the calculator here to find out which fit the closest. Hope this helps!

Good post. It's a short month, so I'm trying to set mini-goals so I don't get discouraged (lost my first 6 lbs in January): 1. More time being active - less time at the computer (finding time to exercise is easy if I just put down the FB!) 2. Lose 2 more pounds. 3. Cook more meals at home 4. Be able to touch my toes in…

Tracking everything I eat BEFORE I actually eat it. Helps me decide if I should skip something all together or adjust my portion size. My perception of calories consumed was very off from actual calories. This works particularly well when eating out. I use the mobile app at restaurants while looking at the menu. Helps me…

I hit my first 5 lbs. and bought the first season of Glee on DVD (via ebay) to watch while I work out. So both an incentive and a reward!

Zumba burns about 1000 kCal an hour. So even a 1/2 hour is a great calorie burn.
