Brooks Defyance 5. I have been in the Defyance line for three years and have never had a problem. Prior to that, I was in Mizuno wave runners and I was consistently getting shin splints. No problems since the switch.

I was outside all day until the street lights came on--playing tag, football, basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, swimming -- whatever was in season and whatever the guys in the neighborhood were up for. I also rode my bike everywhere! I was a rail. I was only in the house on bad weather days.

I log food - and its made all the difference.

I recently bought the Polar RS300x, which tracks calories burned and other information. I am still getting used to it. It is easy to set-up and use. I love it.

The elliptical/treadmill calories are calculated for the average person using that machine - same with MFP. I did notice that the treadmill and MFP were pretty consistent with each other. However, I purchased a heart rate monitor about a month ago and noticed that my actual calorie burn according to the heart rate monitor…

My biggest pet peeve is that when my wife and I (both on MFP) make a new recipe, we both have to enter it into MFP, instead of being able to share between us.

"There is a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when circumstances permit. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results." --Unknown I heard a story once where a coach was asked to explain the difference between being interested and…

These are great motivational quotes. I like "If it is to be, its up to me"

I weigh once a week, Friday mornings. I like to see the scale going down, but I am more concerned with forming good habits/a good routine. If I do that, I know the weight will come down eventually.

I'm a newbie, but it sounds like fun. Count me in.

6'5" started at 255 and now at 235lbs with a goal weight of 220. I don't comment on the boards much, but I log the calories and exercise at least 5x weekly. I lose about 1 pound each week. Slow and steady.

I hired a trainer for 10 sessions to learn exercises that are tailored to my capabilities and health/fitness goals. Turned out to be a great decision for me. I would suggest you do the same.

Taco Bell was my everyday addiction. Two years ago I had to stop cold turkey as part my move to a healthy lifestyle. Haven't been back since.

Do any of your close friends or your husband use MFP? I started logging just to support my wife and now I and just as addicted as she is. I has to be much easier when you have support from close friends.

I have been a runner for 15 years, and I feel like I am still at the beginning stages. I love to see people running of all sizes, shapes and skill levels. It inspires me because I see people taking positive steps to manage their health. Its not about where you are, but whether you are making progress. My advice: Do a 5k…

When I started running years ago I followed the following plan. Exercise every other day for 30 mins. In the beginning, break the 30 minutes into 3 sets of 10 minutes. The first time, run as long as you can (lets say 5 minutes). So you run for 5 walk for 5 and do that 3 times. The next week run for 6 walk for 4. the next…

Thanks for the post and it was well timed. I am 6' 5'' and plan on losing 35 lbs, but I've had a few weeks in a row where my results don't seem to reflect my workouts and nutrition discipline and I have been thinking about jumping off the wagon this week. Your post has given me a reason to re-engage. Thanks and…

Thanks for posting your success story and good luck on hitting your goal. I get so inspired when people find a whole new person that was hidden inside their previous body. Great job!!

Great motivational pieces!

It happens and its ok every once-in-a-while. When I do that or have a bad weigh-in, I remind myself that I am interested in my overall weight and health in 3 months - not this week. Slow and steady - have faith in the MFP math and you can acheive your goals.

I was 25 and my wife 26 when we married. We met in college and dated for 3 years before getting engaged. We were engaged about 1 year and have been married for 21 years. For clarity's sake, that is my daughter with me in my profile picture

I used to get shin splints a lot. Then I went to a running store and had my gait checked. It turns out I was I was in the wrong kind of shoe. Haven't had any problems since I switched shoes. My advice is to go to a local running specialty store and have them analyze your gait and foot strike. They can recommend a shoe…

Thanks for the concise info Ask4itall. I am tweaking my MFP plans to incorporate some of this advice. I appreciate the benefit of your knowledge.

My understanding is that myfitnesspal calculates your target calories based on your desired weight loss and the amount of calories burned in a normal day. For example: There are 3,500 calories in a pound and myfitnesspal estimates that I burn 2690 in a normal day (I am a big guy with a sedentary lifestyle). I would like to…
