I just go to my exercise and go to create exercise. I always call it the name of the 5k I ran. Did you have on a heart rate monitor? A 5k usually burns around 300 calories for me.
-
Fantastic work! And you did it so fast! I have 10 more pounds to go ,then I'll reach my goal of 40 pounds.
-
First, I'll do the happy dance!!!!     Then I'll start training for a full marathon. I'm training for a half right now. I already know my husband thinks I'm crazy for doing another half so I'll keep it quiet till the time comes. Only ten more pounds to go!

Fantastic!! Next thing you know you'll be running a half marathon!

Thank you all for the great comments! Everyone has been very helpful! BTW...I'm still a little sore in my calves from running in my new NB minimus shoes. I'm just sticking to short runs till my legs are broken in.

Welcome! This is an excellent video on learning to run correctly. http://www.nytimes.com/video/2011/11/02/magazine/100000001149415/the-lost-secret-of-running.html

First I have to recommend the book Born to Run. I learned a lot from it. I would not like to run on my bare skinned feet. I'm much too tender, even with my callouses. But it's up to you if your feet are up to it. Start reading about the different kinds of shoes. If your foot feels compressed in normal shoes, you might really…

I'm glad to hear a doctor is looking into this problem.

Let us know what you decide on and how you like the shoes after you run in them.

Great story!!!!

I would LOVE to do a Zombie run! Where is it? I forgot, I'm also going to do a Biggest Loser sponsored 15k on Nov 3rd. That should be a lot of fun! I'm hoping to see some of the coaches from the BL show there.

Very cool!

I have heard many horror stories of people getting their gaits analyzed and the shoes they bought from the recommendation made everything worse. Planter Fasciitis, shin splints, knee pain, back pain, etc. Read born to run. And yes, you definitely should consider going minimus/barefoot.
-
Hey johnny, I saw you are getting ready for a half. When is yours? I'm going to do one in Jan. It will be my second. I am about 22 pounds less since then and will run it in my minimus shoes. I got a stress fracture during my first half and I blame it on my shoes and the slope of the road. The fracture was on the side of my…

Barefoot shoes feel comfortable because we are running with out pain for the first time. And at first they aren't comfortable because for many people they aren't used to running on the mid/ball of their feet and it is very awkward. you don't damage your feet when you run correctly sorry about the arthritis in your toes.
-
I thoroughly enjoyed your story! Thanks for posting. I love going barefoot also but you definitely take the prize. I have some pretty hideous callouses on my feet as well. I asked my husband to get me a pedicure/manicure for an anniversary present. and he laughed ,saying the ladies would probably faint when they saw my…

Thanks for the info. I'll keep that in mind when I'm ready to get my next pair of shoes.

I am a serious runner and this is the first time time in a long time that I feel like I can kiss those shin splints goodbye!! And pretty feet aren't a priority for me. Running with no pain is. :glasses:

Up date...... I'm sore! A good sore. New muscles are being worked. I had to cut short my 4 mile run to 2 miles. I'll try 2 more miles tomorrow. .......I still love the new minimums though!!!!! Happy running!

The way minumus shoes work is they promote a mid to ball foot strike, keeping you from a heel strike, which causes horrible foot, back and knee problems. A heavily cushioned shoe restricts your foot from naturally going into a mid foot strike. When you land on your heel you land heavily. It's very hard to land light footed…

What kind of shoes do you wear? I just recently got New Balance Minimus. I was having a major problem with shin splints. The shin splints are almost gone now. The Minimus shoes are amazing! You should look into it if you want to keep running with no pain. Also read the book "Born to Run". It's an excellent story and very…
