  • I'm still here! Would love some more MFP friends :) I was doing pretty well until this fall. I fell off my healthy habits a bit and gained a few pounds back. Trying to get back on track now. I'm currently horseless, but I hope that will change within the next year or so and I'd love to be fit and in shape when it does!
  • I just did W7D2 and averaged about 9:20/mile. This is my second time through the program though (took a long break from running this winter/spring after knee surgery). My first time through I was running at about a 10min/mile
  • Finished W6D3 today! I've completed this program before, but I had knee surgery this spring and I got fairly out of shape afterwards so I'm re-doing the program. It was really humid during my run which was rough, but I did 2.5 miles in 24:40!
  • Thanks for the suggestions! I'm glad that I should be able to pull this off. I love the idea of making my own wipes!
  • I know I did and I think a few of my friends had the same experience! I'm not sure why week 6 was such a struggle for me, but it definitely was. It'll get better though- stick with it!!
  • I'd stick with it, it's only two days and you might be surprised that it's more difficult than you expect. When I was doing C25k, the 20 min run wasn't too bad, but I did have a harder time with week 6. I think part of the purpose of week 6 is also to give your body a bit of a break. W5D3 is the first big run in the…
  • Welcome to everyone who is new! We have a pretty great group of COTH'ers on here :)
  • Lost 4.5 pounds- probably a little ambitious, graduation is coming up and I bet there will be several days of good food! Be diligent about doing my physical therapy & follow directions- i.e. , be patient, don't start running until I get the okay Make progress on my half marathon training- sadly... this isn't really in my…
  • Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone! I had a typo in my original post, prior to my injury I was doing about 12-15 MILES per week (not hours!) sorry about that! I'm still walking a fair bit, my dog and I go between 2.5-3 miles each day and my foot seems to be okay with that. I've also been using the elliptical…
  • Thanks for the advice, my PT warned me about this turning into full bowl plantar fasciitis too, and I definitely don't want that to happen! Maybe I'll try and wait a little longer before attempting to run again. It feels pretty good when I walk, so I'm really hoping it'll improve quickly
  • When I did C25k, I logged the running and walking segments separately. So for week 3 I would put in: Walking @ 3 mph- 16 min (5 min warm up + 9 min walk breaks + 2 min cool down/walk home) Running @ 6 mph- 9 min Depending what app you're using, you might be able to look at the map for a running segment and get an idea of…
  • You can absolutely do a race right after finishing the C25k! You probably won't be the fastest person there, but I don't see any reason to wait 6 months after you start running. I did my first race about 3 weeks after finishing C25k and I was pleased with my time and had fun. Plus, having a race on the calendar helps for…
  • I'm a serious ice cream junky too. I certainly don't want to complicate your mission to avoid it, but if you ever really have the craving I've discovered the Klondike 100 Calorie Ice Cream bars and they're really good!
  • There are a couple different free apps you can download if you have a smartphone and they'll tell you your actual speed. I use the app Endomundo and it keeps track of my speed and will tell me about how many calories I've burned (after entering my height/age/weight). It also keeps track of elevation change which is helpful…
  • hehe it's totally true- there's rarely a day that goes by where I don't have goldfish and cheerios! In the past when I've tried to lose weight I've tried eliminating unhealthy things from my diet and I never stick with it for long. This time around I'm trying to eat healthier, but I'm also allowing myself to eat unhealthy…
  • Running outside is WAY different than running on a treadmill. It might help to go back and do W6D1 or W6D2 outside to help you get used to what it feels like to run outdoors, and then work on increasing your distance and time from there. Good luck!
  • That's awesome! Congrats on getting the first day finished!
  • I finished it about a month ago and have done a couple 5k races since then! I made it about 3/4 of the way a year or so ago, the first time I did it with my dog. He has some joint problems now and can't go, but as long as your dog is well behaved on the leash you probably won't have a problem if she comes along. I had to…
  • I just carry the bag with me, use to gross me out, but it's really not too bad. I just hold it in the same hand that has the leash
  • Yes I did, by the end I was running just a hair over 3.1 miles in 30 minutes. I didn't keep track of the distance I did in my warm up and cool down walk, so I'm not sure how much ground I covered in that section of the workout.
  • Congrats! I finished about two weeks ago and ran my first 5k on Saturday it was lots of fun, you'll have a great time!
  • Welcome to all the new COTH'ers!
  • I 'graduated' from it last week! Am currently running 3.2 miles in 30 minutes and am signed up for my first 5k race this weekend. Nothing but 'pros' as far as I'm concerned, it's a great program!
  • The race I'm doing is sponsored by a local bread company and bakery- I'm certain the snacks will be delicious :) What about my ipod- are those allowed in races?
  • I follow the same basic rule you do- if it's something I do with the intent of it being exercise I log it. So, for me that's mostly going to the gym, running, lifting weights and walking my dog. When I walk my dog I walk very briskly and up a steep hill, by the time I get to the top my heart is pounding just as hard as it…
  • Thanks so much for the help! It looks like the weather will be in the 50s and rainy, so heat shouldn't be an issue. So far I've been running in the evening on the indoor track at the gym. On Sunday I think I'll wake up, have breakfast and go for my run to see how running in the morning goes and to make sure my breakfast…
  • I graduated today! For my W9D3 run tonight I did 3.2 miles in 30 minutes (actually, it was about 30 minutes and 5 seconds, but close enough :) ) I'm signed up for my first 5k next Saturday! This spring I'm hoping to do a few more 5k races and at some point this summer I'd like to start slowly training for a half marathon-…
  • that's great, I'm glad you're doing better!
  • That's awesome everyone is doing so well! Things are going well for me too. I've been running a lot- yesterday I ran 3 miles for the first time ever! I have my eyes on a 5k that's coming up in a few weeks. Still getting up the nerve to actually mail in the sign up sheet, but it's all filled out and sitting on my desk :)…
  • That's awesome! I haven't lost enough for anyone to notice (or at least for them to comment) yet. But I got to ride on Sunday for the first time in about a month and a half and my tall boots zipped up really easily! They used to be *super* snug, to the point I was just waiting for the zipper to bust, but now they zip up…
