Congrats! That's awesome! :)

Great job on your 5K! Hope everything went well with your half!

10/21: 6 miles-- MTD: 17.5 Thanks Cor! Doc says as long as it doesn't hurt too bad after running it was probably a strain or deep tissue bruise and all should be fine. So far so good. I can walk today after my longish run yesterday so that is a huge improvement!! If the pain worsens with running I have to go back for…

10/18: 1.5 miles-foot seems ok, but easing back into it. MTD: 11.5 (ouch! that really hurts  )

You could also try compression sleeves for during or after your workout. They tend to help blood flow/circulation to the area which helps. I second icing the area as well.

I suggest NOT doing this if you are at all clumsy. This is how I currently carry my phone and I have dropped it at least a dozen times and watched it smash open. I put it back together each time and it still pretty much works, until the next time...

I was overweight because I was ignorant. I really (no seriously, I really did) think that I could just eat whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted and exercise whenever I wanted (which was pretty much never). It worked for the first 26 years of my life...no reason to think that would change. But then time kept adding years,…

Well, apparently I injured my foot on my long run last Sunday. I finally broke down and went to the ortho yesterday. It's either a sprain (please! please! please!) or a possible stress fracture. I have to stay away from running until I can walk with no pain and then I can try running again. If no pain, I am good to go.…

There are some shoes that are "in between" minimalist and traditional running shoes. Shoes like Asics Neo (I think Brooks Cadence as well) have a much shorter drop from heel to toe than traditional running shoes, but still have pretty good support in them. That might be the way to go for you. But definitely agree with…

Thanks for all of your replies. I thought about the crutches, but can't find anyone that has any. I have a desk job, so I mostly sit, just walking back and forth to get candidates for interviews and to the printer, etc. It's just when I get home that I'm "running" like crazy. I think I'll just make tonight take-out and…

Congrats!! That is an awesome first race time! My first 5K was like 38 minutes I think. I just got a PR in a 5K about a month ago at 30:29. Now I'm looking to get below 30...gotta love that racing bug! ;)

Did you see the post under the recipe board for apple cinnamon water? I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to...it sounds delicious and I'm hoping it will help me increase my water intake in a yummy way ;)

10/7: 8 miles Last week total: 10 miles MTD: 10 miles

It will also help you prepare for any unexpected hills you may encounter if plan on doing any races. When you get to the hill, you will keep running, while most around you will stop to walk ;)

It is usually because of breathing, but they are caused from your diaphram not being allowed to fully extend when you are breathing (i.e. not taking deep enough breaths or shallow breathing). They will be more common at first until you learn to control your breathing while running. If you push your hand against the side…

I suppose then, that all of my running miles are junk miles. I am not currently training for anything...I'll begin training for a half in december, but until then I am just running to be running. I run 2-3 short runs during the week (2-3 miles) and a longer run on the weekends (up to 8 miles currently) and this is just to…

I like corn. and grains. and processed foods. that's all...carry on.

I'll be doing my first half at Disney in Feb and I have no intentions of running the whole thing (even though I am going to train like I will). I'll be stopping for photos, probably the rest room, water, gatorade, etc. I won't feel any shame about it, but I guess it's just a personal preference. If your goal is to run the…

If it's just because of a dry mouth you can just get some sugar free jolly ranchers and suck on those while you are running. I had to do that at first too. My mouth still gets dry now, I just don't think about it anymore until I'm almost done and...well...then I'm almost done ;)

10/2--2 miles

I'd love in for 50 again this month if there is room...I just posted on Sept and then realized this thread was already here. :)
-
Me too... 9/27: 2.5 miles MTD: 45 miles. Got very sick on Friday and missed two long runs this weekend. I was so excited that I would actually meet my goal this month, but I ended up 5 miles short. I would like to rejoin this month for 50, but I'll have a slow start as I am still not up to par.

I'm 33 also 5'10" SW: 180 CW: 151.5 GW: was 150, but I'm maintaining right now, I would definitely like to get into that 18-20% BF range though!! (I think I am currently about 26 now--just going by calculators, don't have an accurate way to measure) ETA: by maintaining I mean, I am no longer losing, I never actually…

Don't beat yourself up. Everyone reacts differently to this type of news. My dad was diagnosed with cancer in nov 2010. We didn't know at the time how bad it was. We found out later that the tumor showed up on an old ultrsound from 2005, but noone realized it was cancer and noone, including my dad, followed up on it. I was…

Congrats on your PRs!! [/quote] Thanks!! I was really excited about it :) 9/25: 2 miles 9/26: 1 mile warm up WTD: 3 miles MTD: 42.5 miles

That's awesome! Good luck! Oh, and it's great that you will be attending a class as you are first starting. If there is anything that needs adjusting with your form you can catch it at the beginning before you get used to doing it wrong. I know my form isn't the best, but I almost feel like I'm in too deep to learn…

Thanks for posting...I was just wondering where this person buys their almond milk. I always thought it would be a great source of protein, but since it's not, I've just stuck with skim milk...I don't mind the extra calories for the difference in protein I get ;)

I'm not judging you for wanting to quit. Some people have awful effects on their GI tract due to caffiene. My dad had to quit it all together because he would have pain, cramps, etc and his system just could not tolerate it. He drank caffiene free tea and Sprite and lots of water and did just fine. Caffiene doesn't have…

The pain may have been from you trying to do a quick stretch before running and before your muscles being warm. Try running without stretching and see what happens...if it is just soreness you can probably run through it, but if it is sharp shooting pains you should stop and evaluate if you have injured yourself. Good…

I'm running the Disney Princess Half also! You have plenty of time to train! I am currently running, just because I have become addicted to it now, but our actual 1/2 marathon training plan does not start until the beginning of December so you should be fine...you still have time to do couch to 5K and bridge to 10K before…
