  • I am an *almost* 40 year old working mom. My job is high stress and for a long time I used ice cream as my personal anti-anxiety med. This rested in my weighing just a hair shy of 300lbs. I've dropped about 80 of that and I'm hoping to drop at least another 40 this year...though more wouldn't break my heart. My biggest…
  • I can totally understand how anxiety might make the gym feel intimidating even when you brain knows that no-one there is looking at you. If you can afford it, and really want to work out in the gym, you could always try hiring a trainer for a limited number of sessions with the express purpose of having them teach you how…
  • I would love to adopt someone this Year! About me: My basic philosophy about weight loss is that people make it seem way to complicated. It isn't, but not being complicated doesn't mean that it's easy. The simple part is the formula. Calories in/calories out. The hard stuff comes from the consistency required and the…
  • Well yay for you. You're getting started!
  • All sodium related water retention probably. Worry not. :)
  • They can lick their own eyeballs...seems shifty to me.
  • I felt like I was reading my diary when I looked at your post. 38 year old mom of a 5 almost 6 year old. Work 10 hour days quite often sitting in an office chair staring at a computer. Only get up to run to all the meetings I get scheduled into. Sooooo tired lately. Have been working at this weight-loss thing for awhile.…
  • Fellow Californian living the Oklahoma life here also, although I hail from Northern Ca. (Humboldt County). The sweet tea struggle is real.
  • I can not speak on the topic of body acceptance for people of size as a social movement...I can only speak about how it has impacted me. I have been overweight since I was about 10 or 11 years old....and it came with a great deal of shame. Not just the shame that others vaulted my way, but the shame that I placed on…
  • Welcome! It is def. an eye opener when you start to closely track the calories in your food. I was seriously indignant when I realized how little peanut butter is really in two tablespoons. Feel free to add me as a friend if you are looking to build your online support community.
  • I used to hate what I saw in the mirror and then I read a simple statement. "Beauty is not your job. It isn't something you owe to anyone. It is not the rent you pay to justify your existence." It was something I needed to read. Now, (and it took me a long time) I am ok with how I look. Is it perfect? Yes, perfectly…
  • The question certainly can feel invasive to the receiver. However, because it is mostly assumed that weight loss is a good thing & something to be proud of, we tend to assume that people will be proud of the number dropped. It's almost an invitation to brag in some folks view. I guess what I'm saying is it feels rude to me…
  • My husband became a stay at home dad about 4 months ago. In that role he has taken on the chore of meal prep during the week ( I cook on the weekends...it's his Monday through Friday job, he deserves the weekend off). Watching him learn to cook has been fascinating. I realized that it really is a skill set that few today…
  • Mom of one kid, age five, and a total desk jockey 8-10 hours a day here. I've managed to lose a little over 50 so far, but I still have around 50 left to go. I'll send you a friend request.
  • Rituals surrounding food and hospitality have been at play in human culture...pretty much since there were humans. During most of that time, needing to gain weight was an issue, not needing to lose it. I guess our social rituals simply haven't caught up with our newfound easy access to calorie rich foods... Oh who am I…
  • Love this! Stealing it.
  • PCOS sister here. Lift heavy things now. We tend to have very complex hormonal profiles that make all of this weight loss business weird. The one thing everyone who knows anything about our hormonal issues can attest to is that weight lifting is good. Do you know if you are insulin resistant?

  • Thank you SonyaCele! I've been watching loads of form videos on youtube and I LOVE the way the back squats and bench presses make me feel...I mean it hurts for two days after but even that is kind of awesome. I'll incorporate some of the stuff mentioned above, but I'll go ahead and give the deads and rows a try.
  • Food offerings at schools in the USA differ wildly depending on the district and it's tax base/poverty level. I live in Oklahoma and roughly 50% of the kids at my daughters pre-K are on free or reduced lunch. I always feed her breakfast at home and pack a lunch but ONCE I let her eat breakfast at school because we were…
  • I have PCOS and I'm pretty sure I just learned stuff about myself that not even my doctors have ever bothered to explain. Thank you sooooo much for posting this. Also "Dude chick" lol. That's what my husband calls me, and it's a compliment when he says it.
  • Cook the rice till the liquid in the pan has become quite thick. Then cover and turn off the heat. Let steam to finish. Moist, delish rice. Or get a pressure cooker. Perfect rice every time...unless you don't time it right. :) If you use a pressure cooker (if you've never used one before) get a new one. They can be…
  • It's a modern day incarnation of the corset. Akin in brutality to foot binding...just recently read a news story about a woman who died as a result of "aggressive waist training."
  • Jelly is a fruit spread that is the sugary reduction of the fruits juices. Jam is the same but contains actually pureed fruit or bits of fruit...at least here in the southern USA...might be different elsewhere.

  • I think the biggest mental change I've had to undergo happened before I really started to see any lasting success. I had to accept myself and care about myself exactly as I was. After that, taking care of myself became a lot easier. Now I'm not trying to achieve some socially acceptable/magazine appropriate appearance but…
  • I gained a little after I had mine out, because I could FINALLY eat without being in horrid pain. Seriously though, I was 8 months pregnant when mine decided to suddenly become an issue and it landed me in the hospital for the last several weeks of my pregnancy. I started developing problems with my liver as a result of a…
  • You are welcome to add me also. I started out at just a hair shy of 300lbs. I still need to loose about 70 to be at goal. :/
  • Love this quote! My goal feeling is confidant.
  • I've lost 90lbs. I have no idea how to represent that. Maybe 9 bags of potatoes? I can't imagine trying to walk on the treadmill with that strapped to my back anymore....no wonder I puked the first time I tried to go biking. :/
