  • Nox 5'8" Age 32 Highest weight: 145 lbs Current weight: 133 lbs Goal weight: 125 lbs maybe? I used to weigh 117 when I was borderline anorexic but had no muscle. Aiming for that 25" waist but with muscle and good health this time around. I was a software developer, with a gym in the office, standing desk, walked to work,…
  • I'm a big fan of Jackie Warner strength DVDs. That woman might be the devil, I can typically barely lift my arms to wash my hair after a workout.
  • So great to see a guy doing it. My boyfriend does JM with me, and every time she says something like "Keep going ladies!" he jokes he can take a break.
  • I would guess vegan for ethical reasons, gluten free because of either Celiac or buying into the nonsense of gluten intolerance. OP, I was a gluten free vegan. Gained 10 lbs despite very careful intake and exercise. I was reading a lot of chick peas, lentils and tofu in various curries and stir fries. Downgraded to…
  • As an anthropologist who studies human evolution the fixation on "hip dip" makes me crazy with rage and frustration. That is the shape off a human female pelvis. You are literally saying "I can see my bones and it makes me look/feel fat." It's insane and harmful. If you can't handle a hip dip find a time machine and change…
  • Both great, thanks guys. Let's keep 'em coming!
  • I scored a zombie run for my boyfriend's anniversary present tomorrow. Thanks!
  • Hard liquor will give you the best alcohol to calories ratio, so maybe something like vodka and diet coke? Alternately, red wine because although it has more calories it actually has health benefits as well? I haven't found a good way to not overdo it, let me know if you do. Maybe just announcing your intention before the…
  • 2 hard boiled eggs and an avocado is my current favorite easy and cheap breakfast or lunch.
  • I once picked up my boyfriend's 40 lb dumbbells, just to move them to where he needed them for our workout, and BAM I looked like He-Man. But in seriousness, the advice to lift heavy until you have the body you want is sensible. You're not going to fall asleep skinny one night and wake up with crazy guns the next day. I'd…
  • Thanks, I'm so used to Internet shopping that just going to a store didn't even occur to me. :) He's been doing Muay Thai for about 6 months and we've both done karate and various weapon-based martial arts. But it's been a while so I'll take your advice and give myself a chance to do each DVD without the gloves before…
  • Holy hell! You look amazing, and as others before me have said, that smile in the "After" photo is just wonderful. Congratulations.
  • Just got it today, I'll try to remember to update here with results in a week. Best part of any JM dvd is working out next to my boyfriend and laughing every time she says "ladies!". (She says it a LOT in every workout.)
  • I take my dog for a nice long walk on the offleash trails near our home, and maybe do some yoga. Sex is a great rest day "exercise." ;) Initially I had a really hard time actually taking rest days, I felt like I had to always be working out to lose body fat, but after reading a bit about how important recovery time is for…
  • I'd say it's a tie between my sandbag and jump rope.
  • Holy hell! BombshellPhoenix that is a crazy inspirational transformation. Putting down my tablet and grabbing my barbell right now!
  • I love this idea. Totally going to do this in the middle of winter. Generally though I suck it up and go outside, I have a big dog so there's no much choice. :)
  • Actually it sounds a lot more like an eating disorder and some degree of clinical depression.
  • It looks like you forgot to mention your qualifications to make sweeping statements about addiction and mental health that are in opposition with what many doctors, psychiatrists, neuroscientists and psychologists accept. I'm sure you have some though, and simply forgot that failing to bring them up to validate your…
  • I'm certain you didn't mean to sound unsympathetic. It really can be profoundly difficult to quit drinking. To the OP, admitting the problem really is the first step. I've struggled with alcohol for years, and am currently in my 4th week of total sobriety. I've tried to quit before and failed, but what feels different this…
  • If your husband snores that can really impact sleep quality even if you don't recall waking up totally. When my boyfriend is our of town my sleep quality is amazing. (If the snoring is caused by a deviated septum he can have surgery, my boyfriend gallantly signed up for it.)
  • Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I love running, but I hate the constant hunger and fantasies about junk food that seems to come with it. Has anyone had luck with running in the evening instead of the morning? Maybe sleeping through the worst of the hunger?
  • Total tangent by why not black coffee instead of Pepsi Max for caffeine. Both have no calories, but Pepsi Max has aspartame which is horrible for your brain.
  • I loved mine for the first year, now I don't even wear it. I track sleep data with my phone, and workout data with a heart rate monitor. I walk to and from work, and work at a standing desk (with my dog in the office so I have to move whenever she decides to go running off). I don't really need a reminder to break 10k…
  • You went outside and did your best, what's to be ashamed of?! You should be proud of yourself. When I started Couch to 5k I honestly couldn't run for 30 seconds, and now I run half-marathons and 10 mile obstacle races. Your body will amaze you with what it can learn to do, but it takes the mental strength to go even when…
  • I've put on 6 lbs since Easter... almost back to my starting weight of 132 lbs. All I need to do is get myself out the door to run for a couple consecutive mornings and I'll have momentum to keep working out, but it's proving hard. Taking 3 days off fitness and eating well because "It's a vacation" was a terrible idea.
  • I've been doing Jackie Warner stuff lately, I like her strength training better, and running for cardio. But it snowed today (wtf winter!) so I'm going to give Week 3 of RI30 a try because I refuse to put on winter running clothing in April.
  • 15 pounds in 8 weeks is physically possible (and not actually too crazy). But as the people above me have said you need to find a way to do it that won't cause you to feel super deprived and snap at some point.
  • Talk to a counsellor and your husband, not strangers on the Internet. But if you want the opinion of a stranger, don't try to change for somebody else (losing weight for yourself might help you feel healthier and live longer for your kids, but it has to be your choice).
  • The Mio battery only lasts 8 hours or so, making it a horrible activity tracker (I don't think it even has an accelerometer). Personally I use both a Polar H7 (along with the FT60 watch & my Nexus 5 phone) when I'm working out and a Fitbit One all the time. I had a Basis B1 but the heart rate is a snapshot taken every…
